This is a fantastic hotel with excellent staff that can't do enough for you. The place is very pretty due mainly to the excellent gardens and it is kept spotlessly clean. The only negative is that the food, including breakfast is fairly average.

Stayed with wife and 9 year old daughter in one of the smaller apartments. It is not unlike a 1 bedroom Homewood Suites unit. Our daughter slept very comfortably in the fold out bed in the living room. Aside from filling the refrigerator with cold drinks (it was hot), we didn't use the kitchen. Very comfortable room with a nice bathroom. Nice big patio in the back where we could enjoy our lunch.

The grounds are excellent. Very well kept - it even has a 9-hole mini (very mini) golf course. Great to play with kids. Super pool with plenty of beds.

While the reception staff was friendly and efficient, we really have nothing but compliments for the restaurant/bar staff. So friendly yet very professional. On our first day, my wife spilled her drink at the outside bar. Not only did the young lady clean up the mess with a smile on her face, she promptly brought my wife a new drink. Costs them nothing and makes us fans for life. Had dinner there three times during our week stay. It was the best we found in Pula.

Highly recommend.

Booked this for a 4 night stay in April this year. Slightly out of season and the outdoor pool was sadly too cold to use. Car hire is a must here. Had to move rooms as the electric hob on the initial room was stuck on - thought the room was warm! Surprised this hadnt been picked up before we got it, but never mind - a quick move next door and all was fine. Decor of apartment was ok, nothing fancy at all - 3 star equivalent - but everything worked. I think the price I paid was quite high for the quality of the place and it was obvious that it was practically empty - perhaps if they were charging £50-60 a night they would have better luck. Pula itself is not the most charming place around but you are not far from some fantastic beaches if you have the weather (always a risk in April in britain but sadly the poor weather followed us!) and at least there are a few restaurants in walking distance or short cab ride (cab price seems to be a rip off 15 euros from the one cabby in town no matter how long the journey but again he was probably feeling the pinch wth few tourists about!). Only time we ever used facilities was for a coffee at the bar which was luke warm. Another attempt to order a drink found one person milling around between the restaurant and reception but they didnt acknowledge me despite actually seeing me so I gave up. On the whole i'd go for a house rental if you can get one for a good price but everywhere around here seems to be pricing itself out of the market. While you're here go to the roman ruins on the outskirts of town around a mile away. For a short break Lantana absolutely served it's purpose but no more I'm afraid.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the pool as the ones with a view out the back though private overlook nothing but...

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. It isn't flashy with a massive range of facilities but it was a delight to stay there. The staff were very helpful without being intrusive - nothing seemed too much trouble. The location is quiet and the accommodation comfortable and spread over a few small low rise blocks around the pool and gardens. It is about 15 minutes walk to the small town of Pula which has a range of shops, bars and restaurants.

The food was some of the best Italian food we have ever had -not a wide range of choice but always something that we liked. We tried two restaurants in Pula (Giancarlo and Federico's). These were both OK, but not outstanding and not a match for the Lantana where we in fact ate on five occasions during the week we stayed. During our stay they had an offer of 4 courses including cover charge and water which was very reasonably priced.

I would go there again without hesitation.

I had wanted to try Sardinia, Sicily and Corsica for several years and this was the first attempt. Whilst beautiful (apart from the industrial areas around Cagliari!) this was clearly 'off-season' and thus many places were closed (16th-23rd May).

However when we found the hotel it was welcoming and good - we were in 106 ground floor overlooking the pool - a Superior Room on H/B for €1400 for the week Sconto! (special price!).

Bed was large (2 singles made up as a King) and firm (OK by me) and unusually had just 2 thin pillows - no issue as they were happy to bring anything you wanted but we needed nothing much else. Sheets were changed twice during the week.

Fridge and a flat screen TV with Sky in the room were fine but the bathroom was tiny and just a shower, no bath. Again no real issue for us but some may get grumpy about it.

Usually we like to try the local restaurants at night and beach bars in the day but we only found one beach bar and would have been pushed to find 7 restaurants open locally. Pula is a charming little town full of one way tiny cobbled streets, tichy coffee bars, some nice shops and 'gelateria'. The main square again pretty small has about 5 restaurants all running into one and serve huge pizzas and prix fixe or agriturismo menus.

The hotel is very clean and the pool area and furniture of a good standard. What really makes this place is the staff who are (mostly) fluent in English and German and happy to do anything and everything they can for you with a broad smile.

There were coaches of German pensioners arriving frequently during our week but the hotel ran like clockwork whether there were 20 of us or 120 of us eating and staying. Free parking, room service (between 8am and 8pm??) and a lovely little bar.

The presence of many polite German pensioners made Chelsea's Champions League success over Bayern Munich (on penalties no less) quite entertaining especially as my wife and I were in position A for the match in 2 comfy armchairs with Graziella from the bar keeping us watered!

All in all a lovely stay sadly marred by 3 or 4 days of cloud and rain - but a lovely, quiet, relaxing hotel in a lovely island. I would like to see it in the 'season'!

Room Tip: The superior rooms overlook the pool ara and are more pleasant than those standard rooms looking at...

We visited Sardinia for the first time during May bank holiday weekend. Not sure where to stay we opted for southern side of Island known to be sunnier and drier than  the north during spring time. We compared few hotels in Cagliari but couldn't find anything exciting then we spread the search a bit further out and discover this lovely resort in the small village -Pula. It was an excellent choice.  Situated on the quite road, surrounded by palms and cactuses this simple resort makes you feel welcome. You can chill out by the pool or on your own balcony. Rooms are simple but comfortable. Our windows were facing south giving us sunny start every morning. There is a restaurant serving breakfast and set menu in the evening and the bar open whole day where on the comfortable sofas you can forget about daily stress and relax. If you are an active person,  as we are, and after  a day of exploring the island still don't have enough, you can rent a bike or walk 20 minutes to the beautiful beach.  That's where you comprehend great benefits of coming to Sardinia out of season- you  have the beach almost to yourself.

We stayed here for 7 nights during the week before Easter (deparitng on Easter Sunday). All the comments about how great it is are true, and I'm not surprised that people return to it.

We had a two bedroomed apartment (no. 212, on the first floor) which gave us room to move around in, with a lovely sheltered balcony overlooking the garden and pool. The owners take immense care over the well-laid out gardens, and there were people tending the cacti and the grass all the time. The pool side was tidied and sprayed down every morning. The beds were made, and the towels changed, every couple of days.

We didn't use the restaurant as we preferred to go into Pula, and I have reviewed a couple of local restaurants. However, I did check the menu a couple of times, and it looked OK.

The Lantana is on the road leaving Pula to go out to the beaches and the archeological site - which are well worth visiting. The ruins can be visited in the morning, and then you can have a drink and a sandwich at the little cafe and spend the afternoon on the beach - bliss. We also went to the nuraghi at Barumini, and into Cagliari - these are within easy driving distance of the Lantana.

Clearly, visiting so early in the season we expected it to be very quiet and that was exactly what we found. Towards the end of our visit, just before Easter, the Lantana filled up and we realised that the availability of two-bedroomed, self-catering apartments would be very attractive to families with young children. This meant that it was very different in the second half of our stay ie much noisier. Obviously it's a matter of personal situation (ie whether you have a young family yourself), and of preference (whether noise bothers you), but if these apply, it may be worth taking this into account if booking during term time.

(Another reviewer of the Lantana commented in the propensity of concrete buildings to transmit sound, and I'm sorry to say that this was also a problem, when the neighbouring apartments were occupied in the second half of the week).

As a consequence, only 4 stars....

Room Tip: might be worth considering staying in the hotel and not the apartments, as the apartments will appea...
