Is Molas Resort
Ranked #15 of 24 Hotels in Pula
Reviewed July 18, 2009

We just left Is Molas today, and can say we had an entirely comfortable week long stay. Our rate included half-board, i.e. breakfast and dinner, and the best thing about this hotel is its food. Breakfast is a feast of fresh fruits, several types of croissants, yogurts, egg cooked to order with bacon if you want. Dinner was fantastic, a special menu unique to that day comprised of 3 choices for the first course, 3 pastas for the second, and another 3 meat/fish courses for the last. On top of this, there was salads and cooked vegetables. The desserts were scrumptious. The kitchen used the freshest Sardinian seafoods (octopus, clams, mussels, fish, squid, shrimps etc) for its food, so even though we "stayed in" for dinner, which ordinarily would be a bore if repeated for many days, we actually found we looked forward to going back to the hotel for dinner. Service was good, and the staff professional. On a less positive note, there is no in room internet service, so you had to bring your laptop to the lobby for the wireless. The hotel's location is 3-4 kilometers set back among the hills from the main road, so unless you have a car, there is no public transportation. To taxi to town (Pula) is a 15 euro one-way proposition. Many people choose Is Molas to play golf because of its famous course, or to have a quiet time, but not for action, night life or proximity to town. There is a lot going for this hotel, given the location to the nice beaches (the hotel has a free shuttle to its own private strip of a beach near Nora, but the best beaches are at Chia), the food, the pool and the golf course, but if the owners would re-invest money into upgrading the hotel from its present 1980's decor, this hotel could easily earn another star in its rating. Another plus for people in high tech, this hotel is the closest to the Sardinia POLARIS Research Technology Park.

We were on a fly drive holiday around Sardinia and booked the Is Molas as a comfortable base to explore the south of the island. The location is quiet, peaceful and is equally good for both golfers and holidaymakers - there is a large pool and nice gardens to sit out in. However, you do need a car as the hotel is 5 mins inland from Pula in a fairly remote spot. The hotel, adjacent villas and golf course is gated so security is good for you and your car.

The staff are a real asset to this hotel, friendly, helpful, no grumpy people about at all. From Reception to the Restaurant staff to the Pool barman and pool man handing out the towels with a smile, it was a nice place to come back to in the evenings after a busy day out looking around Chia, Costa del Sud (absolutely beautiful) etc.

The hotel we thought was probably built in the 1980's and might be old fashioned to some i.e. its not a boutique hotel, but it offered clean comfortable rooms decorated in newish Sardinian style (new furniture, TV etc.) The bathroom could have done with some tidying up but was perfectly acceptable and had a decent shower. We found the bed a bit hard but that is personal preference.

The highlight was possibly the restaurant each evening, wow what a chef, hope he stays put as we intend to return next year. We paid 173 euros per night for 2 of us half board and in Sardinia that is pretty good value. The food was exceptional and a decent wine list.

After dinner in June most people retired to bed after dinner, this hotel is really more suited to couples wanting peace and quiet. There were Italian children about but not many. So if you are looking for entertainment, night time action you would need to go into Pula (5 mins) or Cagliari (40 mins) I suppose.

Recommended.

Maybe my expectations aren't as high as some of the other reviewers but I really did enjoy my stay at Is Molas Hotel. I looked at other hotels in Pula which were very expensive. Is Molas was the cheapest- I think the main reason for this is the location, which I will come to in a minute. I booked flights to Cagliari airport through EasyJet and decided just to see if they were doing any deals on hotels in Pula or the surrounding area. Is Molas popped up as the cheapest at £250 for 4 nights, where as other hotels were starting at a minimum of £450. I was worried at first but I have chosen hotels based on the reviews on trip advisor and have not been disappointed yet!

So I booked a transfer from the airport which takes approx. 45 mins. via shuttledirect.com- they offered a one way transfer in a private taxi for 70 euros, where as taxis can be between 80-100 euro due to the meter running...Is Molas Hotel offered a transfer for 90 euros.

We past the small town of Pula and pulled off on to a winding country road, lined with beautiful flowers. Through a security gate we came to a private residential area and the hotel was located here. I do agree it is not well signposted but the taxi drivers knew where they were going. I am sure if you contact the hotel in advance (who speak good english) they could email or supply a map. Or google map the address!

On arrival the hotel does not look to grand but is welcoming in decor and the staff are extremely friendly and 80% of them speak English. We went up to our room and were plesantly suprised. We had only gone for a standard room but possibly due to it not being high season yet, we had a stunning view of the gardens, pool, Pula and the sea. Magnificent. As for the room it was decorated in white and peach- which I can only describe as Mediterannean in style and gave the room a bright and airy feel. There was a walk in wardrobe and a lovely bathroom- the hairdryer worked even though I bought my own!

We sat by the pool where drinks and ice cream are served after 2pm although the times are not fixed as it seemed to vary give or take an hour. Towels were also provided. To the left of the hotel is the golf course where you can eat snacks or meals at lunch time- you can't get food at the hotel at lunch time but it is just next door! Drinks and food did seem expensive especially as there was not a shop or supermarket nearer than the town of Pula. But hotels prices are always inflated and the state of the euro did not help. If you have a hire car- which I recommend, as you can explore Pula and surrounding areas, then you can visit a shop or other restaurant etc. I did run out of cigarrettes which they did not sell in the hotel and they kindly got me some from the town within the hour- as we were not lucky enough to have the use of a car!

The shuttle service to the beach was very good. It left at 10am, 12pm and 3pm and returned at 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 6pm to the hotel. The beach is small and I'm sure there were nicer beaches around, however we enjoyed it- it was clean and had toilet/shower facilities but we did not have to pay for sun loungers as we were guests at the hotel. They did a service (if you arrive at the beach in the morning) where you could order lunch - a choice of salads etc. We shared a tomato and mozarella salad between us that we ordered at 11pm and it arrived at 1pm- direct from the hotel. It cost 8 euros but was enough for 2 people- it was huge and came with ciabatta bread. Delicious.

Dinner was my highlight. Served in a lovely courtyard setting. For 30 euros they provided a 4 course meal. The menu changed daily and included a selection of meat, pasta, and fish dishes and even dishes suitable for vegetarians. One night I had and eggplant (aubergine) tart in pecorrino cheese sauce- amazing! Followed by freshly made gnocci in a saffron sauce that melted in the mouth- followed by duck in rasberry sauce served with the freshest green beans I have ever tasted! For dessert there is usually a choice of 3 different gateauxs/tarts and a huge selection of fresh fruit and cheese. I would come back for the food alone.

I came to the conclusion this must be a good hotel not only for the obvious- a famous golf course but because 85% of the guests were italian! That must say something surely if the locals stayed at the hotel and ate there. They seemed to invite friends down too.

The hotel did have many families with children and babies there but there were no kids clubs or a playground.

I highly recommend this hotel and if I can get a cheap deal here I will be going back again soon.

Is Molas is located west of the town Pula, Sardinia, Italy. The hotel is very nice with a friendly, professional and serviceminded staff. Our rooms were larger than the normal European standard, something that did suit us well as we were there on a golf break. The food is nice and the beautiful park golf course is located just three hundred meters away from the hotel reception. Among the golf course staff you find the same attitude as among the hotel staff. The hotel is nice for golfers, but also for those who do not golf.
Should some members of the family desire to play golf and others not, the resort will be nice for that as well being located close to nice beaches and having a swimming pool of its own.

We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights at the end of our holiday. It was meant to be a treat as it was a 4 star hotel and the brocheure looked wonderful. How misleading pictures can be.
The first problem we encountered was the lack of sign posts to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel you are greeted by a partly finished building which has obviously been abandoned for some years. Not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The building itself is a large concrete expanse with grass and some bushes surrounding it. The desk spoke good english and we were shown to our room. The rooms are large with walk in wardrobe and an area to store the golf clubs which also has a fridge in it. The decor needs updating with 1980's rag rolling/ colour wash in peach, with a tiled floor. The bathroom was appaling, not what you would expect for your money. It had a bath, bidet and shower into the bath. It was decorated in butterscotch tiles with large white narcissus flowers as a border, some tiles were cracked and the grout had mould that had been scrubbed away on many occasions. The bath itself needed to be bleached, upon inspection cleaning fluid lines could easily be seem where someone has tried to get rid of the grime. The hairdryer did not work and has not been updated since time began. The bathroom ceiling consisted of plastic lattes(like the ones on beds) so that you could see the toilet cistern, boiler and an assortment of insects and their webs. These lattes did not even fit to the ceiling and many had been cut short. It was truely disgraceful. We stayed half board and the meals were good but the variety was not there. Each night consisted of a few options that always nearly had seafood with them. The beer and water were a rip off 3 euros for a bottle of water when it really should be included with a meal. The beach is 5km away and there is a minibus but the times are not regular and you can be charged for using the sunbeads.
I would definatley not recommend this hotel, it is not value for money and there are other hotels in pula that offer a better service. I was so disappointed with hotel that we considered moving elsewhere for our wedding annivesary, but being peak season all hotels were booked.
we were expecting luxury for 200 a night, and we got 3 star hotel. always read tripadvisor reports , this hotel did not have one and we paid the price, but at least others can decide for themselves.
