“Classic local cuisine”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

A couple of years ago I've been at the main restaurant, while a couple of days ago I've been at the new branch opened close to the Duomo, in the city centre.
The atmosphere is quite different, but the place is anyway cosy enough... perhaps a bit small.
Service is quite fast and helpful.
Food is the classical local Prato food, you shouldn't expect anything very elaborate or surprising (if you're used to local cuisine, obviously). Though, they do their work very well, everything is tasty, and at a very cheap price

“Beautifully authentic and unbeatable value...”
Reviewed September 9, 2010

The restaurant we visited is one of two located in Prato. The address of the one that was visited is at Via Pomeria, 23 - 59100 Prato Tel: 0374 34665 and appears to be the original.

When you arrive at the location, don't let the exterior fool you, its easy to miss and looks rather ordinary but the food is far from that.

When you walk in, you can expect to be greeted by a handful of waiters/waitresses (presumably family as it appears to be a family run business). The atmosphere is cosey and being from a non-speaking Italian background (with very minimal Italian language knowledge) we were assisted with one waiter that translated the menu for us. Luckily as it would have been just pot luck.

What we ended up ordering was unbelievably scrumptious and of excellent value. I almost felt like we robbed them when we came to pay the bill.

If you want to taste authentic spaghetti bolognese, this place is it! The spaghetti was clearly from a home made recipe (firm and al dente) and the meatball sauce (maybe based on mutton) is spectacularly scrumptious. We could not find another restaurant that served a comparable quality of the same simple dish anywhere in Rome or Florence and almost felt like paying the return train ticket of $EU44 from Rome to go back for - just for the spaghetti.

Mind you, that was just "Primo" and not "Seconde".

For "seconde" we ordered what appears to be a "roast pork leg",a Florence style veal steak (which turns out to be a schnitzel like slice of veal) and a side dish of roasted eggplant.

What we didn't expect was the "roast pork leg" to come out as a whole "leg". As it was served, even the waiter said with a smile, "good luck". LOL

Seriously it was with sheer gluttony that both of us finished what was ordered. But that didn't stop us from trying out the desserts that came highly recommended.

A crème-brulee-like custard desert was ordered together with tiramisu - both exceptionally beautiful.

Flavors were clean, complimentary but appropriate and simple - ideal to be able to taste the freshness of the food served.

And all this for a total of $EU40 (10% tip included). The value was unbelievable. Like I said, I felt like we walked out of there robbing them of the meal that was served for the price we paid.

Would love to go back and try other menu items but perhaps better prepared next time with the Italian language. The waiter that served us was great though. If you do visit, let them know that the "Duo Chino" sent you! ;)
