“Friendliest restaurant, good food”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

Ate here a couple of times, and had to be the friendliest Service in Praiano. The food is simple, Rustic style, They apply the 2 euro coperto, which is the norm in the more informal restaurants. They have a covered glazed area by the roadside and a terrace across the road by the roadside. I prefer the covered area, as the charms of roadside eating is completely lost on me.
I had a frittura mista at midday, fish and prawns fine, the calarmari may have been slightly overcooked.
The evening meal was good sound fare, and I was treated to fresh bread from the oven too. There is an old boy who seems to spend all night cooking pizza and bread in the corner of the restaurant, and ends up making one for himself.

“Intro to Praiano”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

My wife and I and travel friends stayed overnight in Open Gate before our week in a nearby villa. For convenience we decided to eat in their restaurant that night on the balcony overlooking the sea (across the street from the hotel). We already knew all the exceptionally friendly staff and enjoyed an excellent dining experience: complementary cocktail, fantastic seafood options, and a treat of limoncello from the owner when we shared our high praise for view, food, and service. Don't expect an elaborate menu; any shared opener and fish dish with side veggies will satisfy.

“Quaint little restaurant with authentic Italian food and good, freindly service”
Reviewed September 29, 2011

Some friends of ours stayed at the Open Gate last year so recommended that we eat there at least once while in Praiano. We were not disappointed. The food is fresh and excellent. It is family run: the papi who cooks fresh bread and pizza in the open wood oven, his brother (so another papi), who serves behind the bar, the mama who cooks in the kitchen, and the 2 adult cousins-waiters who are very pleasant with clients. Stefania in particular who, for foreign visitors speaks both a little English and French - certainly enough to be helpful to the clients. The atmosphere is great. It is also easy to reach right on the main road SS163. At night, the road is not so busy that it is a problem. We ate both lunch and dinner there during our week in the Praiano area. We would definitely recommend the Open Gate restaurant.

“Great Food, Great Service, Great Location and View!”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

While walking, on our way to the center of Praiano on SS 163, from our apartments, we passed this place with some interest, but thought it looked big and touristy (part of a hotel) so only stopped out of kindness to the waiter in the street offering us (15 of us) to look at her menu. After a few words and a breif description of the menu, we decided to stay and eat. She put together 5 tables on the road outside overlooking the water and the cliff!

As the night progressed, we ate mostly family style, with the highlight being my Seafood Pasta! Another great hit was the Pizza. True Neopolitan style. Old Italian music came from across the street and I was in Italy, eating great food at a great restaurant with great service and great freinds.

There are not to may restaurants in Praiano, but I would absolutely come back here!

stayed at their hotel 5 nights and decided to eat there 3 times because of it's authentic italian cuisine. everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. A must have is their tasty fish soup which needs to be ordered a day before.
