On our last night in Italy we stayed at this Hotel. There are only 2 good things about it : the view and the food at the restaurant. The hotel is old with great big balconies but nothing special about decoration (plastic chairs, bamboo couch, bed with stiff mattress) no fridge in the room, very few sockets. The restaurant (across the road tables) has also great view, tasty plates in good prices. We arrived late in the evening after 6 hour driving and there was no hot water, we had to wait for 20 minutes to take a shower. The breakfast is basic, if you want eggs you have to pay extra, which is unaccepted for the price you pay. There are too many steps to the 2nd floor we were staying and they did not offer help with the luggage. Ok it is a family run hotel, but it was also the other one we stayed in Praiano and it was exceptional. A renovation is necessary in order to consider this Hotel good value for money

A lovely family-run establishment. We had a large room on the top floor with a massive terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. Our room and bathroom was functional and clean and the bed very comfortable. The reception was welcoming and they were very informative about how best to get around and what to see. The small town of Praiano itself is an easy walk away and well worth doing, as is a delightful cove beach nearby. But, for us, the highlight was the food, really excellent cooking.

We stayed here for 3 nights to explore Amalfi coast. The location is much more affordable and reasonable than positano, which is just a quick bus trip away.

The restaurant is fantastic, we ate here for dinner every night! The staff are lovely and very helpful. Rooms are an older style but clean and functional, quite large and also quite a large bathroom. The view from our balcony was sensational.

Bus stops close by, beach a short walk with boat trips etc available. Recommend contacting front desk for any trips, we booked one online and had to travel about an hour over to the pickup point. Just book through reception and they collect you from here, please someone learn from my mistake!

Would be happy to recommend, and will happily stay here again.

We have been to this hotel 3 years in a row. We found it by chance in 2010 when the original hotel we booked in Salerno let us down - how lucky was that. There are not enough words to describe how good this hotel is - the view from EVERY room is amazing; the food is excellent; the location is great (and the free parking). Having dinner on the terrace is one of the best experiences you will ever have. The family are extremely helpful, especially Pasquale who will organise boat trips and puncture repairs (!!) and answer any questions you may have on the nearby towns etc. At the end of each stay we had to depart early in the morning and every time they provided us with a take-away breakfast. I can't understand people who give this hotel poor reviews - the prices are extremely good value given the location, the views and the service provided. We will definitely be back and it won't come soon enough. Highly recommended!!

My partner and I stayed at the hotel in October 2012. Things were a little quieter at that time, which suited us just fine. Our room had a gorgeous ocean view, and we were so happy with the overall stay. The hotel had a family-run feel and the staff were always friendly without being overbearing. We ate in the restaurant a few times for dinner and the food was pretty good, if not the best we had in the area. We used bus stops ten minutes in either direction from the hotel.

I spent a lot of time trying to find affordable accommodation in a decent location and this fit the bill. Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: Book an ocean view room, it's a must if you stay on the Amalfi Coast.

A friend and I stayed at Open Gate 2nd to 6th October 2012 and it most definitely wasn't long enough to enjoy all that the spectacular Amalfi Coast has to offer. This small peaceful family owned & run Hotel lived up to all our expectations. Our room was big, as was our balcony where we enjoyed our evening pre dinner drinks while taking in the amazing vista as the sun went down, listening to the strains of "O Solo Mio" wafting up from the Hotel Restaurant below us intertwined with the aromas from the Wood fired Pizza oven and the home cooked food........heaven!!
The Hotel location is great - situated in between Positano and Amalfi with 2 Bus Lines operating in either direction - one stopping right at Open Gate, the other just a few minutes walk away. Stefania & Pasquale (cousins) do an excellent job of running the place and are ever so helpful in making sure the guests are catered for in every way. Their parents are the cooks while also carrying out other important behind the scenes roles involved with the Hotel.
Good value Day Tours can be booked from Reception and we did Pompeii and The Isle of Capri, which were both fabulous - highly recommended.

One word of advice: I would recommend at least 5 days on this stunning Coast. There is so much to see and do and and you also want to have a couple of days to do basically nothing but soak up the views, the tranquility, and the atmosphere of a location that is "simply out of this world"

PS: PookieMontreal ("Amazing" review) I remember talking to the 3 of you at breakfast one morning. We were the 2 Australian women travelling together.
