We booked the Margherita well in advance of our honeymoon in Italy. I had emailed to say it was our honeymoon, and received excellent communication from Suela regarding the 'special' room she had reserved for us at no extra cost. We had already stayed 3 nights in Rome and 5 nights in Tuscany, and we arrived here late and exhausted after a 14-hour travel day, to be staying for six nights in total. We were welcomed with a cold beer on the house and shown to our room. The room was fantastic - private sun terrace with a spectacular view and a jacuzzi 'wet room' with ambiance lighting. The pool was only a few paces away too. As it was late and we were exhausted and hot, I took a brief shower, which only stayed hot for a minute or two before turning cold. I thought no more about it as we went for dinner on the rooftop terrace.
We spent several mornings bathing on our terrace which was superb as we could nip in the pool any time we got too hot.
Suela has a fantastic presence in the hotel and is full of good and useful advice. And the free bus down to town and the beach is a great service.
The view is superb, the staff are nice and breakfast has a very good selection, with eggs cooked to order.
Now the tiny disappointments.....as mentioned, the shower didn't stay hot for long....as we had another shower in the 'wet room' I attempted to use this, but it was broken. The jacuzzi bath also produced cold-ish water, so we only went in it once. On the third morning, I did bring these issues up with the front desk and a plumber spent some time in the room sorting the broken shower, however the water was still cool!
Another small thing - although the food on the rooftop terrace is good and convenient, it is a tad overpriced and service is quite slow.
On our last night, we were able to bring in pizzas from a local takeaway (which was very nice of Suela to let us do, she even got us a candle!) and we ate them on our terrace with a beer from the bar which was a lovely end to our stay here.
Overall, a nice hotel in a good location for both Positano and Amalfi.

We selected this hotel based on the reviews and the price for a family room with ocean view.
Wow! we were not disapointed. The room was gorgeous, extra large and very clean.
The view was breathtaking. The hotel is located on a smaller road, not the main one, so it is quieter. Additionally, the windows were sound proof. We can not say the same for the wall to the next room. We could hear the man talking in the next room, but strangely not the room on the other side into which there were a family. Was there a problem with this wall only (room #23)? But it did not disturbed us and we slept very well.

The pool is small but appreciated after a day of tourism in the heat. However, it definitely need a torough cleaning. The water was not clear and the sides were really filthy! There were even moulds on some tiles. This contrasted with the cleanliness of the property.

The breafast was good with fresh juice, eggs cooked at your taste. I wished they had prepared fresh fruits, but they only had whole fruits sitting in a basket. The morning staff was very helpful and attentive.

The hotel quality did not make it to the roof top restaurant. This was the most tasteless food we had in the region: fish, pasta, tomatoes...The service was distant but ok.

The hotel owners have been giving us advices on the area but were doing it in an expedite manner without real interest and passion. We did not feel welcome to inquire about anything. Never did they ask us in 5 days how things were going... I would advise them to be careful that their popularity does not impact the "human" side of their business.

We had originally planned on staying in a studio our whole time in the Positano area but were unable so we booked this hotel for our last few days. We wished we could've stayed longer. The hotel was beautiful and had a gorgeous view from the top terrace. The staff was most helpful and very accommodating. The food was delicious both at breakfast and the restaurant on the roof. This hotel was perfect and we loved the town of Praiano. Found a wonderful little wine bar there with great local wines and delicious food. It was a nice change from the shops and such in Positano. We hope to return one day.

The hotel has lovely views. The room was spacious and spotless. The pool was great as the beach is a long way down the hill. The shuttle service provided by the hotel was great and we did use it to get from the beach car park (which is still up a hill) to the hotel and the girl driving was lovely. Hotel was a little isolated as you had to rely on buses to get you anywhere and I would imagine they would be very crowded in peak time. It would also be difficult to park and drive around the Amalfi coast even if you had a car. Its a lovely hotel if you are reasonably fit and don't mind walking but if you want to be close to many restaurants or the beach it may not be ideal.

Positano or Praiano? It was a difficult deciding where to stay on the Amalfi Coast, but so many positive reviews about Hotel Margherita on TripAdvsior tipped the scales.
Sometimes a top spot on this site means a place has been spoiled by tourists, losing its local flavour (had that feeling with a few restaurants across Italy). And sometimes, everyone just got it right. That is the case with Hotel Margerita.

It is a family-run hotel and from the moment you step in, you feel like Suela’s family visiting from North America. From freely offering rides around town to advice on dining and excursions, we were taken care of and hosted. With an 8 year old in tow, this was priceless.

The room (#26-- with a balcony over the sea, a dome ceiling and a spacious, modern bathroom) was large, the beds were comfortable and the view was…well…spectacular. We woke up every morning facing the sea.

Some highlights not touched upon as much in other reviews:
• Breakfasts were very varied, with fruit, yogurt, breads, pastries, meats and cheeses. Fresh orange juice, eggs and specialty coffees were also offered every day
• We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant the first night. It was excellent it terms of setting, quality and value (25 euros for a three course meal—a steal on the AC). The only reason we didn’t eat there again was so we could try a different restaurant each night.
• If you have a car, it is only 15 minutes to Positano. My husband had no problems driving—especially when traffic calmed down in the evenings. The bus really does stop right in front of the hotel and is a 20 minute ride to Positano. A better option if you plan to have wine with lunch or dinner
• The hotel will shuttle you to and from the local Praia beach. It was very picturesque, but felt confined. Another option that we did only our last day (regrettably) was take the free “One Fire Beach Club” orange boat from the Praia beach to the Gavitella Beach at the other side of town (also accessible by over 400 steps down…or up). At the beach you can rent a chaise and umbrella for the whole day for 10 euros. Drinks and food are on offer (pretty reasonable), but there really was no pressure. There is a free rocky beach, too, but the Club has an outdoor shower and diving platforms. With the music playing and the emerald green water in front of us, we felt like we were in a James Bond movie. I wouldn’t really recommend it for younger kids who require a sandy, shallow entry…but it was also magic for our 8 year old son
• The hotel pool was small, but served its purpose for cooling us all off at least once a day…and you really don’t see too many pools on the Coast, so it was a luxury
• One day, we took the bus to Amalfi (30 minutes or so) and then took the ferry to Positano, just to see the coast. (Then lunch and bus back to the hotel). Really nice experience.
• Ravello is definitely worth seeing/having lunch
• Pompeii was interesting, but glad we just did it as a 2 hour stop over on our way to the Coast (join in a 10 euro pp guided tour or it will be overwhelming)
• If you want to see how Limoncello is made (and try some), Praiano has “Il Gusto della Costa” factory and store in town. Great for gifts. It is only a 15 minute walk here (and to anywhere in the center of town—20 min. to beach). A little longer to walk back…but the hotel really will come and get you.
• Our one reservation about staying in Praiano was that there wouldn’t be enough to do. It was actually a really good base for touring around, and the One Fire Beach Club was a great option to the crowded, boat traffic of the Positano and Amalfi beaches. Restaurants in town were great, and the church/town squares were lively at night. There were also a couple of nightclubs and bars, but we didn’t check them out. From the few dinners we had in Positano, it didn’t look like there was much more happening there, other than greater variety of restaurants and gelato options. In the end we definitely preferred the less crowded comforts of Praiano and the Hotel Margherita.

I could go on and on…but suffice to say that I have stayed in many fabulous hotels around the world—and Hotel Margherita ranks with them. It combines the comforts of a 4 or 5 star hotel with personal touches that make you feel at home.

Hotel Margherita is a quaint hotel with genuinely lovely staff, modern and comfortable furnishings, fantastic sea views from your room balcony as well as from the relaxed rooftop bar and pool terraces. Breakfast buffet is continental with juices, fruit, fresh warm pastries and breads, ham, cheeses and cereals. The staff freshly make omelettes on request however way you like them as well as great coffee, all included. Car parking is also provided inclusive in the room rate, mention your car when you book. On approach to the hotel we weren't sure which allocated space we had so parked further down the road. On check in the staff actually went back down the road to collect our car, park it in their car park and they insisted on bringing our luggage in and to our rooms. From the time my Mother and I arrived, to the time we left we had fantastic customer service. We ate dinner in the restaurant one night and although the food was small in portion size (order a side with the main) the quality was outstanding. The selection of food and wine was large enough and unique to the area. The attention to detail, not just in the customer service but the presentation of the food, simple coffees and room presentation was phenomenal for this class hotel and the price we paid. (Superior Twin room with private balcony, sea view, car parking, breakfast Euro140) This hotel is located 10mins driving from Almalfi town centre. It is the ideal spot because parking in Almalfi is so difficult and congested with tourists and tack.. Praiano is a sleepy calm village giving you some of the authentic flavour of ‘real’ rural Italy. You can get the local bus to Almalfi for Euro1.10 each way (hotel reception can give you the tickets, they simply charge them to your room account) and the easiest option is to leave the car parked safely at the hotel and get the local bus into Almalfi. The bus picks up and drops off right outside the hotel front door. They obviously cater to weddings or small functions here because when we checked in a large family group were checking out with bridal dresses. It is a child friendly hotel so keep this in mind when booking. When my Mother and I went for a dip in the small pool (simply a paddle pool) there were three small children although lovely and under parent supervision splashing about. This did surprise us after seeing so many honeymooners. All in all a great place to stay, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room with balcony.. you won't regret it!

I stayed here in 2007 and July 2011. Both times as part of Round the World trips. Suela and the team are simply wonderful. Sensational food, views, quality of room at incredibly low prices. Easy access to Positano and Amalfi from the Hotel. They advertise themselves as 3 star. It is with 3 star prices you get 5 star service!
