“Lovely place with beautiful views from the terrace”

We stayed with friends at The Casa Aloe earlier this month, booking through Summer in Italy, who were really helpful. The property has various descriptions, but is best described as a bungalow, being all on one floor with a fantastic wrap around terrace overlooking the sea to the front and side. The interior is fine, a well equipped kitchen, nice bedrooms with plenty of storage and great views out to sea, satellite TV and a double sized drench shower. The only minor downside was the lounge area which is a bit cramped with furniture, but you would rarely want to use it in the summer months with a table and chairs out on the terrace, where we spent many happy hours. Also out on the terrace you'll find 4 sun loungers, a shower, large parasol and a barbeque to use. The location for the Casa Aloe will be a plus for some and a consideration for others as it is set high on the hillside and accessible only by 134 steep concrete steps. Now whilst this means that you have spectacular views, no noise other than the cicadas and a feeling of real privacy, the steps are a good workout after a few Peroni's. I would recommend the Casa Aloe to anyone, though if you are disabled, have push chairs, are elderly(though the owners parents live underneath) or are into Chairobics, you may struggle. The owner was lovely and not only gave us a warm welcome, but also got some provisions in for us for our first night and offered some useful information about Praiano, the Amalfi coast and Capri. We stayed in Praiano rather than the more popular Positano and Amalfi because it was more traditional and unspoilt. We weren't disappointed and whilst the aforementioned were lovely too when we visited, I suspect they are noisier and bustlier. Praiano does have a beach, but it is very small so if you like beach holidays, I think there are better options. We did strike it lucky though as Praiano has an annual event at the Church called the Luminari when a sound and light show with candles being lit takes place. This year, the Festival was the first week in August, but I don't know if this is every year. My best tip to travellers is that there is a very good bus service that operates along the Amalfi coast, which is very reasonable to use. Can get a bit crammed at times and you may need to stand, but we used it to get to Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Sorento, Herculaneum and Pompeii(with the help of a circum vesuvio train) and The Emerald Grotto. Unless you love driving, and I don't mind it, use the buses and trains. The roads are very narrow, twisty and busy with traffic. I can't see it being an enjoyable experience and parking in the towns is at a premium. We thought about a car, but decided against it and felt we made the right decision. One final thing is to check out all the charges when booking. There are Tourist charges on the Amalfi coast, deposits and cleaning charges, so make sure you've factored these in when looking at booking.

“Breathtaking view!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Our family of four (2 adults + 8 and 12 years old kids) spent a wonderful two weeks holiday in this great apartment. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It was definitely worth taking those ~120 steps up to the house: the view from it's huge terrace was so lovely and beautiful; even better what you can see from the pictures!

Praiano is very nice and quiet little village with plenty of good restaurants. You don't need a car to stay here, everything can be found within walking distance and in addition the public transportation (local bus + SITA bus) works well. It is a great spot to visit nearby cities such as Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.

“Paradise!”
Reviewed November 2, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Casa Aloe has a wrap-around veranda with a really lovely view! It is on top floor of a building which houses the landlord & landlady below, and her parents below that. There are 127 tough steps to climb (but the landlord DOES bring the luggage up on a rigged wire transport). The Wi-Fi stopped working on second day, but when landlady returned at night, she fixed it for rest of week. (Small problem with wall connection, but, since it has happened before, we would have appreciated knowing about it when we arrived!) Good little market nearby, and wonderful restaurant not too far (Mama's). We did a lot of hiking on high trails during week we were there, so the steps were a bit of a struggle at the end of the day! But, do-able. There has been no expense spared in outfitting the apartment/condo with state of art furnishings and kitchen items. Just a little strange that toilet paper for the whole week was not provided, nor dishwasher detergent. Sheets and towels were changed by the management at mid-week, however, and in general, the landlady was most generous in other ways, as well.

“Amazing Vacation”
Reviewed May 16, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

My husand and I just got back from the Amalfi Coast, and we had a wonderful holiday in Praiano. We stayed at Casa Aloe for 15 nights and loved every minute we were there. The villa was perfect for us and the views from the terrace were absolutely amazing. We had breakfast everyday on the terrace, it was so peaceful. The villa has 2 lovely bedrooms, a good size bathroom and a combined living room/dining room and kitchen. We had WiFi connection, which allowed us to connect to back home. Praiano is a lovely village between Amalfi and Positano where you get a flavour of the local people and their hospitality. The owner Lucia could not have been more helpful during our stay. We booked a lovely Capri excursion with her company Lucibello, it was perfect. On our last day Lucia even drove us to Amalfi so we would make our connection to the Amalfi-Salerno boat, we were really pampered. Thank you so much Lucia.
