We stayed at Damiani from 29 May to 5 June 2011. We are a family of 4 and stayed in one of the bungalows which we found to be very clean and well equipped - including a washing machine (which is rare in Italian rental properties!). The complex has the most amazing pools, if you like swimming you will just love this place. There is one large fantastic cold pool, a large children's pool, and best of all a hot thermal mineral pool which was simply amazing. We didn't use the other facilities - but there are lots of them - gym, tennis etc. There are some fantastic walks which you can do from the complex, in just 10 minutes you can be at Lago Averno. The staff at Averno are lovely, in the restaurant when I mentioned it was my daughter's birthday - the waiter came out with a profiterole cake and candle - she was charmed! And the owner, Eduardo, is invaluable - he has wonderful English and was so helpful, without him we couldn't have done half the things we did. The area itself is very interesting - there is a great Metro line into Naples and we also make a trip to Herculaneum, we also visited the Phlegrean fields which is unlike anything we have ever seen before! The complex does get busy at the weekends but there is still room for everybody. We had a really lovely stay here but a week is probably too short.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the bungalows.

It is only by chance that I stayed here and I am very glad I did. The hotel I had reservations with in Naples turned out to be overbooked and I had to find alternate lodging. A business associate recommended this Hotel and what a contrast to staying in the tight quarters in town. I had a bungalow that allowed me to park by my front door not on the street or in an over crowded parking lot. I had a living room with a fireplace, a full kitchen including a washing machine, a separate bedroom and a large bathroom. The property itself had 3 pools one of which was a heated and simply a very large hot tub. There is a very large fitness center that had anything and everything you needed. I do not play but if you do there are 4 beautiful clay tennis courts. There have covered basketball/soccer courts and even a go cart track. The upstairs restaurant was fantastic and the service at the bar(s), cafe and snack counter were perfect. I enjoyed the free WiFi in my room but usually went to the large lobby area or very large pool deck/courtyard area and enjoyed a coffee or beer while surfing the web. WiFi much less free is not a given in Naples so if this is important to you and you do not want to pay 5 Euro a day this is great. The drive into town was quick and easy with the equivalent to the turnpike located a very short distance from the property. It was nicely landscaped with flowers and not a concrete jungle and I felt secure for myself and the rental car. My only regret was my wife was not able to be there to enjoy the Spa and a Massage during the day while I took care of my business. When I return to the area I will rebook here.

It was a mere 37 years ago that I was sent to be stationed at the Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. My wife, three kids, two dogs and three cats. With luck, we found Complesso Turistico Averno to live for four months in while we waited for housing elsewhere. We could have stayed here at the hotel/camp site for the whole three years!

After a few return trips in the eighties, I am back in Pozzuoli, sitting on the porch at the Averno of one of the bungalows near the very place we stayed so many years ago. It's the same - it's beautiful - it's friendly - it's PERFECT.

As the writer above mentioned, the Damiani kids run both the hotel/resort/campgrounds and a new facility closer to Lago d'Averno, Habiba where folks come for parties, weddings, events in an amazing location. This is a fairy tale setting for romance.

Between the staff, who are out of this world, the decor which emulates ancient Roman architecture, the world class clay tennis courts where international competition takes place, you can't ask for much more. Sure, you may want a Hilton Park Hotel with its grandeur, but this place has ambience that can't be beat. Dancing at night with your lady love, eating with Carlo and Dante with their menu (you can't get Italian food in the US like you can get at CT Vareno), cappuccino in the thermal pool (even in the winter), as Memo, the owner, says, "Paradise!" I agree with him.

This is wonderful place to stay for a family holiday. It is great value and has lots of options but you do need a car. The complex has camping, caravans, hotel rooms and units. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit with kitchen and laundry facilities.Although the rooms are not luxurious there is plenty of room, free wifi , and ability to self cater or eat out. The complex has a great hot spring pool which we used even though it was mid winter. There are other pools, but unless you are a penguin are too cold for winter. They would be great in summer. We used the tennis courts and the complex also has a basketball court , playground, and go kart track for summer.
With all this ,the best part is the owner, Eduardo. He could not have been more helpful. On our arrival he drove us around for an hour, to show us where the supermarket , tourist sites ,walking tracks, roads, safe parking, train terminus etc. were !!!! It was definitely beyond the call of duty. I cannot imagine he can do this for everyone but nothing was too much trouble on any level.
The area is great , aside from being 3/4 hr from Pompeii Herculeneum, Naples and other major sites, the volcanic solfatara, amphitheatre, cuma and Pozzuoli should not be missed.
