“Beautiful Views, buts lots of steps not suitable for small children or less abled travellers”
Reviewed September 7, 2009

We stayed in the 2 bedroom Victoria Apartment here with two young children. The apartment has a large balcony with stunning views across Positano and the Amalfi coast. However what you don't know is that there are 96 steps up to the apartment from the entrance and no elevator! This was a problem for us as we had 2 small children with 2 buggies, also the location is up high in Positano so there are hundreds of steps to get you down to the main beach and town, they don't call it the vertical city for nothing! The swimming pool is very clean and new with amazing views again, however more steps to get up to it. There is a good local bus service that goes round the resort which stopped very near the villa. Overall a very nice place to stay for the fantastic views and if you are fit and well!

A group of seventeen of us (variety of ages) stayed at the villa for four nights in May as my new wife and I were getting married at the town hall in Positano. We occupied four of the six apartments during our stay.

The Fiorentino family could not have been more helpful. Domenico had a large screen set up for us on the terrace so that we could watch the Champions League final in luxury! Also - on the night before the wedding, Paola prepared an excellent range of canapes and aperitifs for us. Paola certainly seems to thoroughly enjoy the role of hostess.

The terrace at the villa would have an equally good location as the town hall for the wedding - however, we had already booked the town hall before we found the villa.

Swimming pool is quite an asset - we had a group of children of mixed ages in the party and the pool was key in terms of keeping them entertained during the daytime.

There is a well-stocked grocery shop just across the road from the villa if you want to self-cater. Kitchens in the villa apartments are more than adequate.

From the beach to the villa is a 10-15 minute uphill walk with reasonably steep steps in part. Particularly in hot weather, this can be a bit of a slog for some (although you can take the longer, gentler route along the road avoiding the steepest steps - probably takes an extra 10 minutes). Difficult to avoid this sort of thing entirely in Positano though!

In summary, service excellent, accommodation very good, wonderful setting.

VILLA FIORENTINO

We booked the Garden apartment and Primavera at VF for our party and we had bags of room. Only 2 of us had to share a room and we had 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 washing machines but just one dining room and living room. Not forgetting the courtyard belonging to the garden apartment and 2 huge terraces with all the sunbathing paraphernalia you would need, including tables and chairs for the dining of. It was a tough gig but somebody had to do it. The family Fiorentino were the most perfect hosts I have ever encountered – and I go away a lot (no laughing gang!). We used their taxi service (120 euros each way from Naples airport although the drivers lip was quivering a bit as he seemed to be expecting 130 euros. ) When we arrived they had staff to carry our not insubstantial luggage up the 115 stairs to the GA and another 15 or so to PV. Hoorah for the bag carriers! Then, Paula, the daughter, gave us a fruit prosecco and a home made dessert to relax us. Which was nice. I had asked for some shopping to be done for us so that we could relax and unpack without having to dash off for supplies and within the hour we were sat on the terrace dining on bread, ham, tomatoes, olives, cheese and Prosecco. We just had to pay the grocery bill at the alimentary at the bottom of the steps.

You will be able to see from my photos that the villa was outstandingly beautiful and well maintained and we had no complaints at all. It was a long haul up to the swimming pool but by god it was worth it. But there again I am not 74. Sorry mother. We spent a couple of afternoons at the pool and we were lucky enough to be the only users. The second time we were there, we had carried a bit of lunch up with us and they must have spotted us. Instead of rushing up and demanding THERE IS TO BE NO EATING AROUND THE POOL! They rushed up with a tray of the most delicious fruit cream cakes, made by Josephina, the mother, and glasses of limoncello. And then Paula came up with some home made chocolates. We thought we had died and gone to heaven. The family also booked 3 of our meals for us and gave us all a gift on leaving of a ceramic art work – mine is now hanging proudly in my kitchen.

There are 2 ways down into Positano from the Villa. One is straight down the steps (5 – 10 mins) or the 2nd is left along the road toward Amalfi for about 5 mins and then a sharp right down the hill. Both have their advantages and disadvantages depending on the strength of your knees and your braveyr in the face of oncoming and backward coming Amalfi coast traffic. But we managed.

If this villa is within your budget - you won't regret it for a single instance.

Wonderful stay with amazing views. You can't get a comparable room size and view in many others places in the world, especially for the price. Most of the restaurants are a steep walk away, but if you are at all fit, it shouldn't be a problem. The owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would definitely contact them ahead of time.

Stayed in the Garden apartment for a week with family at end of Summer. Had a great time. It is located right up the top of Positano village, so only stay here if you are fit and can handle the enormous number of steps you will climb.

PROS:
- Lots of space.
- Great pool area.
-

CONS:
- No internet access.

If you stay here, grocery shop at the little convenience store just across the road. LOVELY ladies run the place.
