“Best Views in Positano, but they don't take AMEX!?!?”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We selected the Hotel Buca di Bacco for our first time in Positano and it did not disappoint. Every aspect of this hotel was fantastic from the views of the sea and beach on our terrace to the great morning breakfast with some of the best homemade cakes we have ever had the chance to enjoy. The staff is all very friendly and goes out of their way to assist with any request. The hotel and rooms are very clean and beautifully decorated. We recommend trying to get a room on the first or second floor of the annex building; rooms 42 to 48 have nice terraces with perfect views of the sea. We had the chance to participate in the cooking class offered by the Buca di Bacco restaurant which was an amazing experience. We not only learned some great cooking tips but we were able to sit down and enjoy one of the best meals of our trip prepared by ourselves that included wine. My only comment about this hotel to be aware of is that they currently do not accept American Express as a method of payment. The hotel needs to do a better job informing customers prior to their arrival that American Express is not accepted. It could be a real issue for an individual that may only carry an American Express card when they go to check out of the hotel.

On a family holiday - we had such great meals, fantastic service, tourist advice and comfort. The hotel is gorgeous, central and such a lovely place, beautifully decorated. We boated, beached, lunched, had fab dinners and did the cooking course too - this is a must, what a great experience with Michela. Highly recommended, the hotel is pricey but we thought it did not disappoint. Keep going, its a great luxury family hotel. Thanks for making our stay so memorable - we just loved it.

Room Tip: King size bed with decent bathroom and balcony - loved our late afternoons with Proscecco and the vi...

My wife and I stayed at Buca di Bacco for two nights at the end of a walking holiday. The staff were very welcoming, the room was nice and we had a beautiful balcony overlookng the beach with lovely views of Positano. On the last night we ate at the restaurant and the food was very good, I would recommend the regional cheeses and the lobster.

My wife and I took our son, his wife and their 3 daughters and our daughter, her husband and their 3 daughters to Rome and Positano. My wife and I had been to Positano in 2007 and wanted to take our kids and grandkids. When we went in 2007, we stayed in the Sirensuse, which we loved. This time with 6 granddaughters ranging in age from 17 to 8, we wanted to be closer to the Beach. After reviewing hotels on Trip Advisor, we chose Buca de Bacco. We could not have made a better choice. The location is the best in Positano. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful, with fantastic views of the beach and Med. In fact, when our 17 year old granddaughter walked into her room, she immediately photographed it and put it up on facebook with the caption, "I'm in paradise!" In addition, an extensive morning breakfast is served outside
on a large balcony overlooking the beach and Med. One further point, the hotel is spotless.

One more tip, after eating out for 4 nights at expensive restaurants, our kids started bringing in pizzas, deli foods, wine and drinks for dinner, which we all ate on our daughters large balcony.

Room Tip: Get a room with balcony large enough for a patio table and chairs.

Superb location especially if coming into positano by boat. Staff friendly and breakfast is quite decent compared to some other places we stayed in Italy. Checking out I used Amex to settle the bill, only for reception staff to realize they no longer have some agreement with them and had to wait for them to "cancel" the charges - will need to check my statement and confirm, but had to reluctantly use another debit card. How can a hotel of their size not accept Amex? Especially with so many US tourists in the town?

The level of service we experienced was second to none. The location of the hotel was fantastic - facing the beach. We chose a sea facing room - amazing views. Not cheap but a perfect place to immerse yourself in the Positano experience!

We just returned from 10 glorious days at the Buca Di Bacco Hotel. This hotel has the best location in town, being centrally located and right on the beach. Our classic room had nice terrace where we enjoyed spectacular views of the coastline and the town itself. The room was beautifully decorated, very clean, and more spacious than many of the other hotels we have stayed in Italy. Our stay included an outstanding breakfast every morning on the hotel terrace overlooking the coastline.

As other reviewers have pointed out, one of the best parts of this hotel is the people. Mario, Fiorella, Salvatore, and every single member of the hotel staff were amazingly friendly. They worked very hard and consistently went the extra mile to help make sure we were having the best possible experience. They were amazing!

Our favorite places to dine out were Ristorante Mediterraneo, Da Vincenso, Il Ritrovo, Bar Bagni d’Arienzo, and Villa Maria (Ravello). We also had a great time at the cooking class at the Buca Di Bacco restaurant.

In summary we highly recommend Buca di Bacco and plan to return there again. We suggest staying there for at least a week to allow enough time to fully enjoy all the wonderful activities the Amalfi Coast has to offer.

Room Tip: Request a room with an ocean view
