We enjoyed our stay, but did feel pressure from Maria to eat at a certain restaurant. Luckily, the food was great, but it was curiously filled with Americans from the hotel,( no one else from what I could tell) and to use her driver to take us on an extended tour. We took care of the transportation for that particular day ourselves, and saved a ton of money..

Our room was a balcony room with a fabulous view. I will never forget it. We enjoyed drinking wine on the terrace and met some very nice people there. Breakfast was fine.

I would return to this hotel, but wouldn't necessarily allow Maria to influence my choices of restaurants or drivers.

Positano is a gorgeous place and this hotel made it easy to capture it's full charm. With mature grapevines growing over the trellis along the entry way, it's panoramic views from the terrace and it's friendly staff, this was the perfect location. The owner, Maria was there daily to attend to her guest's needs with great advice and friendly company. This place has been in her family for decades and it has a 'homey' feel to it. The underground parking was a lifesaver. We did have to move our room three times as we started off with a room that was right at the entrance way and didn't allow us to keep our windows open for the view. But Maria made up for it by moving us to a beautiful suite where 'Under the Tuscan Sun' was filmed. Even though the beach beckoned below, we were awe struck with the view from our balcony, watching the boats coming and going and sipping our wine. The best restaurant was right outside our door where we had dinner 3 nights in a row. Try their homemade seafood pasta. Our highlight was watching the Festival of the Madonna of the Rosary go by our door along candlelit streets, followed by a fireworks display. Gave us an unexpected taste of the local culture and tradition.

My husband, I and another couple stayed at the Albergo California for five wonderful nights. Maria and her family who operate and manage the hotel were excellent hosts. They made us feel welcome from the first moment we arrived. Maria and her family gave us tips on restaurants, things to do and transportation options in Positano. The views from the room and breakfast/bar areas were drop dead gorgeous. We have visited Italy many times, but our stay at the Albergo California was the best experience ever!

So the view from the rooms is spectacular -- postcard perfect. We sat on our patio as much as we could and just soaked it up. The location is great -- just down from the bus stop, and right at the edge of the cute shops of Positano. But the best thing about the Albergo California is Maria and the rest of the family. She not only set us up for dinner two of our three nights (several of the restaurants in the area will send cars/vans to pick you up and take you to their spots) and for our excursion to Capri, but she made us feel so welcome and taken care of and we didn't want to leave, and will definitely be back. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Such a lovely hotel run by a warm friendly family who make you feel at home. Mama Marie is delightful and takes the time to chat with you, so nice! The room was lovely, clean and an amazing view out to the ocean. I only stayed two nights, but will definitely stay longer next time. I can't recommend this hotel more - the best Ive stayed at in Italy.

We stayed at Hotel California and it was absolutely wonderful. The owners are warm and attentive, the view is spectacular and the location is perfect. The hotel sits above the main street so you don't have too far to walk to get to the action. We will definitely return to this beautiful hotel.

This hotel lived up to all of the previous glowing trip advisor reviews. Spectacular 5 star view from every room (we loved our private patio and spent every evening sipping wine and watching the sunset). Maria is every bit as friendly and welcoming as I anticipated. Such a reasonable price for a very comfortable, spacious and well air conditioned room. Would definitely stay again!
