“Bait and Switch, Beware”
Reviewed July 25, 2009

The hotel room was nothing like the pictures they showed on the website. We paid extra to have a family suite and there was no jacuzzi, no tub whatsoever and the shower was small with just a ratty, green shower curtain. There was definitely no fancy shower fixtures.
There was no view of the water from our room as they represented in the pictures. The room had old worn furniture and the small safe was attached to the rolling mini bar. Not very safe, since a thief could just roll the mini bar out of the room with ease.
On top of that, during the check-out processs, the older woman who was part of the family-run hotel, tried to run our credit card for 20 Euros more than the bill they showed us, thinking we were in a rush and wouldn't notice it. When we pointed out the error, she tried to say it couldn't be fixed. Luckily, the young guy who also ran the hotel fixed the issue by returning our 20 Euros in cash.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT:-(

I have travled to over 60 countries and know what makes an excellent family hotel. We have a 5-yr old girl and look for good value, close to where we'll spend most of our time (the beach area), and close to transportation. The Savoia is an 8-minute walk from the Sponda bus stop on a smooth sloping sidewalk with NO stairs. Savoia is located at the start of the most interesting walk past many shops and places to eat on a 6-minute walk down to the main beach (Spiaggia Grande). We were given a Special rate for staying seven days, and from our balcony we had an angle view of the ocean (about 60 degree angle) and 120 degree view of Positano. Service was quite friendly, and rate included breakfast with a range of choices including fresh pastries. Our room #304 was spotlessly clean, and insulated from most of the street noise.

This hotel wasn't my first choice, but decided to stay based on recommendations from Trip Advisor. Everything that was written is true. The hotel is not fancy, but is spacious, clean and has a great location and staff! We had a balcony room, with a great view that we enjoyed with lemoncello at night. The breakfast was fine-with meats, fruits, pastries and cappuccino. The staff had good recommendations and was very helpful in making reservations for us! Would definitely stay here again next time we are in Positano.

We spent two nights at the end of our italian holiday in Positano. The Hotel Savoia was an excellent choice for us. It is located right in the heart of the square of Positano with easy access to shops, restaurants, the beach, and the local bus stop. The staff were courteous, kind, friendly and helpful. Our continental breakfast served in the morning was excellent. A variety of lots to choose from. Our room was large, clean, comfortable bed and air conditioned. When we return to Positano, we will cerainly stay here again.

I was travelling with my 18-year old daughter and Positano was our second stop, after Florence. Once we adjusted to the elevations and made it down the winding, narrow roads, we arrived at the Savoia and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly, accommodating and I think genuinely happy to see us! The hotel is located in the center of the town which was great because we only had to climb 50 steps down/up to the beach instead of 100 plus compared to some other stories we heard. The hotel is brightly painted, beautiful blue/yellow tile floors, breezy. It takes a little adjustment time to get used to the angle of everything in Positano, but it's worth it!
We checked into our room, opened the balcony doors and the view was amazing! Ocean view to the side, picturesque mountains/homes directly in front of us - just breathtaking! A great balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy the view and the town.
The beds are firm and we asked for extra pillows which we received promptly. There is some traffic noise from the street below but things get pretty quiet after 11:00 p.m. or so. We did request the air conditioning which they regulate from the front desk - seems to be the theme in Europe. On at 2:00 p.m., off at 10:00 a.m. It kept the room pretty cool.
The breakfast is very nice - toast, cereals, pastries, toast, yogurt, fruit salad, some meats/cheeses and the dining room is again, very bright and cheery. You can eat out on the terrace here as well.
The room was a pretty good size and the bathroom was nice. Just watch out for the shower. It is just a shower, not a tub and the shower curtain can block the drain which makes it overflow pretty quickly. I did notice some little ants in the area around the refrigerator. I wanted to ship some of my purchases home and the front desk staff was very, very helpful in setting up a Fed Ex pick up. I just needed to provide my credit card and passport numbers and they took care of the rest. It arrived at my home all nicely wrapped and packed and nothing was broken. I also used the laundry service. I gave it to the front desk pretty early in the morning but I did not receive it until 7:30 p.m. or so. It was on the expensive side. But again, they were very helpful with it.
Overall a wonderful hotel! I wished we had stayed in Positano for the remainder of our vacation! We absolutely loved it!
