“Lovely villa, breathtaking views”

We stayed in both the upper and lower sections of Villa Talamo 8 in March. It was perfect as everyone had plenty of space and yet we were easily able to spend time altogether. The upper unit where we stayed has a fabulous sunny balcony with breathtaking views of the beautiful Amalfi coast. We were there on Palm Sunday and the sounds of the church bells ringing was enchanting. The lower unit had a bit larger living area, kitchen and larger deck, but missed the morning sun...at least at that time of year. Most of the furnishings were antiques and mementos of the family of owner Giovanni. He was great, even with our delayed arrival due to a traffic issue coming from Rome. He even came and picked us up for dinner at his restaurant...I would definitely do that. (See the related review of Al Bariolotto del Nonno.) Also this has a defined parking space....critical in Positano even in the off season. Be prepared to climb a lot of steps, but that is the case anywhere in Positano. And you will have to pay for your electricity use when you leave. It's a good reminder to conserve.

Liked best: The outdoor space and the view. Also the EmmaVilla representatives were easy to work with and helped when we had trouble getting there due to a highway problem.
Liked least: The stairs.

The views took my breath away. The furnishings and craftsmanship of the doors and windows were excellent. The Owner Giovanni went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The photos do not do this villa justice. Thank you Giovanni for everything!!!

Although the villa was in a perfect location, we were disappointed in some key areas. First, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and seemed to lack a proper mattress and pillows. We've stayed in different villas in Italy and this was by far the worst. Second, the furniture on the patios is sub-standard, old and uncomfortable which made it difficult to enjoy the spectacular views. Third, The supply and quality of linens and towels is well below expectations.

Booking something sight unseen is always a gamble. We were so happy that we picked a winner in Villa Talamo. We traveled with our 3 married children, their spouses, and 2 very young grandchildren therefore we rented both apartments of Villa Talamo. We arrived on the day before Easter for a week's stay. The downstairs apartment was elegant and spacious. It afforded enough room for us to socialize and dine. The upstairs apartment, while a little smaller, still had 2 lovely bedrooms and privacy for our adult children. Photos on the website are representative of the amenities but do not do justice to the size of the rooms.
What made the choice so exceptional was the owner Giovanni. He met us upon arrival, got us settled, had our kitchen stocked with the basic essentials (at our request) and made reservations for us for Easter Sunday dinner at his restaurant. That proved to be a wonderful treat. He treated us like family which made our Easter celebration even more memorable.
I would highly recommend this villa. My only complaint is the linens in all the bedrooms are not equal in quality. We gave our daughter's family the larger downstairs bedroom so my husband and I took the room with 2 single beds. The bedding was not luxurious as in the master bedroom. Same with the towels in our bath. This is a simple fix for the proprietor.
We thought the famous steep stairs of Positano would be a problem with young children, but we managed just fine. Luckily my husband and I can still climb stairs as there were 90 down to the main road or 80 up to the car park and bus stop level.

Liked best: The spacious old world feeling of the villa and our host.
Liked least: The stairs, but hey this is Positano. Stairs are a part of life here.

Some of our group of 8 were a little worried about the cost of the Villa, but as soon as we arrived everyone was happy. We were a little disorganised and rang Emma Villas about the keys, but before they rang back the owner arrived (He had been keeping watch) and opened up and showed us around. Beautiful Villa, great views. Worth every cent and more. Good location for bus stop heading towards Amalfi and a mini mart within walking distance.

“Fabulous Views”

We were a group of 4 friends so we rented both villas for a week in September. The downstairs villa was the bigger apartment with two large bedrooms and two bathrooms, a large eat in kitchen, dining room and lounge room. We spent most of the time on the balcony as the views were just gorgeous across the valley and the water, the top villa had the better view as it was more elevated. The villas are well equipped and we ate in a number of nights. We were able to do washing and hang on drying racks on the balconies. The balconies have lots of potted plants which the owner Giovanni asks guests to water as they dry out in the heat of the day. The villa is nestled in the hills of Positano with 110 stairs from the bottom road to the top villa or 45 stairs from the top villa to the car park which is on the top road. There is quite a lot of noise especially at night and the top villa appeared to get more noise, it is just the village coming alive in the morning but at night it is from noisy tourists making their way up the hill to their accommodation, it can be muffled by closing the doors and shutters. The villa is close to the town and easily walked by either going down all the stairs or walking around the road, we chose the stairs and our legs are better for it!
The villas are well secured with all double locked gates and the doors to the villa are triple locked. There is a car park level which has access to the road and a short walk to a local shop that has the essentials and a wine selection.
We enjoyed our evenings out on the balconies and the evening view and would recommend this villa for a week or more stay in Positano.

“Fantastic Stay”

Villa Talamo was an amazing place to stay. Giovanni the owner met us at the door and toured us around the house. There were 8 (4 couples) so we took both 2 bedroom apartments one on top of the other. It worked out beautifully as each couple had a bathroom. There was a washing machine in each apartment and you could easily hang your clothing out to dry during the day. Opening the doors up gives you fresh air and sunshine. The decor is traditionally Italian which was perfect for our visit. The view is positively breathtaking. The walk into town is about 5 minutes down. Giovanni and his sister own a restaurant nearby. If you ask him and make a reservation he'll pick you up and drop you off and treat you like a star. The food was amazing, home made, truly Italian and delicious. We ate there twice during our 7 day stay.
