We stayed at this lovely small hotel overlooking the water below in April. We were in Italy for 3 weeks traveling from Lake Como to the Almalfi Coast. This was one of our most memborable stays. The room was spacious and decorated beautifully. The view form our balcony to the sea blow was breath taking.Breakfast was sumptouous and served in a glass enclosed room overlooking the sea.The owners wer quite helpfull in using their computer to access the interent. We highly reccomend this quaint hotel to the decerning traveler.

Easter 2008

Under suggestion of friends we decided to spend the Easter weekend in Positano.
Though the weather was rather moody we enjoyed our three-night stay very much.
Our room at Hotel Montemare was spacious, well-furnished and with a fine vista just as we had been promised when booking it. We were well attended by Giuseppe who was in charge of the desk and gave us useful info for our trips to nearby villages. We had food in a couple of trattorias and were fully satisfied of our holiday.

this easter I decided to spend three days in Positano and before leaving I ve read some advices on Booking .com about the hotels .I was looking for a romantic room when I ve seen a amazing superior deluxe of the hotel Montemare,I suddenly booked by mail and I was realy surprised of the quickest reply. When we arrived in Naples's airport we catch a bus direct to Sorrento and then another one to Positano ...it is easy if you have few luggages.....The way to Positano is crooked and from the bus you can see the sea cliffs and the wonderful nature .After 45'we were at the hotel .The check in was easy and the kindly man (Giuseppe)at the desk has given us many suggests about the places to visit ,restaurants and escursions. Positano is a little bit exspensive for young people but if you look around (distant from the centre) you will find cheaper eating houses . The room was clean large and comfortable with a gorgeaus Iacuzzi over looking the sea,all has been beautiful and we hope to come back there as soon as possible

This hotel doesn't just have a gorgeous view but the best in Positano and arguably the best in the Amalfi Coast. To counter that the service was non existent or rude. We booked a suite for the first two nights and loved it except for the tiny ants that invaded and the loud banging noises from the kitchen right above from 7:00 am - midnight. (yes that is 7 in the morning!) The second two nights we were in a regular room which was fine except for the mold covered shower curtain. I asked for a new one and was told no and looked at like I was crazy. However a couple hours later a new one was put up.

The decor and layout were beautiful, sweeping views of sea and mountains and convient location to the town and to the beach, but you are charged 5 star prices for 1 star service. The breakfast area was messy and unattended with packaged pastries/croissants, fountain juice, coffe from a machine - terrible, especially considering how wonderful real italian juices and coffees are! The tile in the breakfast area is cracked and you can tell it was beautiful once and now just shabby - not chic.

When we booked directly with them over the phone we were told there was parking available down the street when we got there we were forced to pay an exorbitant rate at the garage about 20 euros or $30 US per day! Parking all throughout the Amalfi Coast is a nightmare but understandable considering the landscape, however there are hotels that provide parking some even free. THe hotel California is one. We were disgusted enough after the first night we looked for other accommodation but everything was full.

THis hotel was not enough to ruin our trip but it definitely took away from it instead of adding to our enjoyment. I would recommend visiting the bar overlooking the sea to enjoy the view and that would be it!

Absolutely go to Puppetto beach instead of Fornillo (the main one in town). Fornillo is also the boat launch and there is oil floating on the surface and cigarette butts to dodge. Puppetto is not a long walk around and well worth it!

We came in from Sorrento via boat with no reservation and the Montemare was literally the only hotel with availability. We walked up from the harbor (taking 10,000 stairs before we learned about the road). Easy check in - only take Visa/Mastercard. Rate was cheap one night and expensive the other. Didn't bother to ask why. Room was pleasant and large with modest furnishings. Left the doors wide open and night and slept to a wonderful breeze. The view of the harbor is first rate. Had a few drinks at the patio bar (wine was terrible) but didn't eat there. It's a hike down to the harbor, but the view from above was worth the walk. Typically walked down and took the city bus back up. It wasn't the quietest place I've ever stayed, could hear foot traffic above, but the views were well worth it.
