“Can't fault this beautiful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is Positano - i.e. the Beverley Hills of the Amalfi Coast. We paid 85 euros a night for a twin with bathroom a terrace - a proper terrace, not a dinky balcony. It was fabulous. Lonely Planet were right about this place.

Carlo was just gorgeous. He even hauled our luggage up the tiny stairs and down again. We were close to beautiful restaurants and shops and took the challenge of the 300 stair walk down to the beach. Note to anyone from Australia - wear your thongs! The beach is made of stones (not pebbles, big stones) so getting into and out of the water is a challenge without something on your feet. Breakfast needs to be ordered with Carlo the night before and costs 5 euros. We didn't order it but there was a coffee machine in the breakfast room - 1 euro for a cappucino - which was fine.

The place was full but we heard no one, except quiet conversation on the adjoining terraces. It was a truly magic place to stay in a picture-perfect town that I had always dreamed of visiting. Positano does not disappoint and neither does Pensione maria Luisa. Recommended!!!!

We stayed here for two nights. The host, Carlo, was just fantastic. He offered us a room with a sea view and private balcony for the first night which was great but then we had to go to a room downstairs without a balcony and a sea view for the second night as the hotel was full. Both rooms were basic but comfortable.

The wifi worked in the sea view room but not in the second room downstairs. However, it was not a problem to go up to the dining area where there was good reception. It seemed to us as though most guest were from Australia or New Zealand and they were all very friendly and helpful.

We wanted to stay another night but unfortunately it was booked out. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: try to get the sea view room with the private balcony as the view is spectacular.

the room was dreadful, we had one without the sea view and also without a toilet seat, airconditioning, and full of creepy crawlies. We left as soon as we saw the room- it was so bad it was worth trailing round town for hours in peak season trying to find somewhere else to go. The hotelier wasn't bothered or surprised when we left, it appeared to happen a lot. If this happens to you try the hotel posa posa, just round the corner- it didn't cost much more and it was fabulous!

Room Tip: if you really want to go, insist on a sea view room- its one of the best views in the town.

We are sorry that our guest Hatty wasn't happy with the room. I don't remember which room our guest is talking about but we can assure that also our rooms without a private terrace are fantastic! Not only those with a private terrace. You can see some splendid photos either on trip advisor or on our fb page www.facebook.com/pensionemarialuisahotel, as well as read plenty of Trip Advisor reviews from our guests.

Moreover, all our rooms have a private bathroom and all toilets have a toilet seat. Maybe we were in the process of replacing a toilet seat at that time? The guests didn't leave any feedback on that when they were here so we were not able to help! We would have offered any form of compensation!

Air conditioning: rooms don't have air conditioning but there is an electric fan provided. However, our rooms are fresh and temperature in Positano is not so high, meaning that air conditioning is not necessary.

Insects and ants: it happens that ants and other insects go in the rooms. Although occasional, when this happens our personnel takes care of eliminating them and re-cleaning the room. Again, our guests didn't leave any feedback when they were here! And again we would have offered a compensation!

I was the hotelier and I was so sorry that they were leaving. However, I wasn't really sure about what was going on and on top of that I was super busy. If they had shared their disappointment I would have helped in many possible ways: offering a free stay, re-cleaning the room, upgrading room if possible, helping with finding another hotel.

A cosy, friendly and inviting little B&B with breathtaking views over one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. If you want glitz & glamour then this isn't the Positano hotel for you, but if you're just as happy with somewhere comfortable, charming & functional, then you will love Pensione Maria Luisa.

With Positano perhaps at the top of the price scale on the Amalfi Coast..the Pensione Maria Luisa
Offers simple and clean accomodations with wonderful sea facing terraces for a good price..There are minor problems with hot water as well as room asthetics. If you have a sea facing terrace you will spend most of your time ouside with the incredible view.Carlo Milo is a lovely man who is most welcoming and helpful and he makes up in a great way for some of the minor shortcomings of the
Old family run hotel..the location takes care of the rest..

Room Tip: A Sea facing terrace room is a must!

This is a budget pension in positano. It is not reachable by car so you need to park it on the big street and carry your bags downhill (and uphill when leaving!) to the pensione. Be aware that parking your car costs around 20-25 euro a day extra. From the pensione its around 350 strps down to the small beach (as opposed to the large beach which is close to the city centre). Owner is very friendly although the room with seaview we reserved turned out to be given away for a one without. A room with a view costs 10-15 euro extra, but it is worth it. We didnt see any "new blue tiles" in the bathroom, as lonely planet had promised. In fact the rooms are pretty basic, but the price is too. There is a communal sun terrace which is good.

Carlo is the friendliest host imaginable. So warm and welcoming we immediately felt at home. The rooms were basic and outdated but we expected this. Water pressure was also very bad in the shower but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker.

We booked a room with a view, only a marginal cost to upgrade, money well spent. Views were amazing. Fridges in the rooms meant we could buy our own breakfast supplies and enjoy on the balcony.

Carlo recommended great local restaurants and also helped us hire a private boat for Capri, nothing was a hassle for him.

I think this hotel represents good value for money on the pricey Amalfi Coast, despite being on the basic side.

The 400 step walk down to the beach from the hotel perched on the side of the cliff is a good way to work of all the pasta and wine.

Would stay again and recommend to others.
