This is Positano - i.e. the Beverley Hills of the Amalfi Coast. We paid 85 euros a night for a twin with bathroom a terrace - a proper terrace, not a dinky balcony. It was fabulous. Lonely Planet were right about this place.
Carlo was just gorgeous. He even hauled our luggage up the tiny stairs and down again. We were close to beautiful restaurants and shops and took the challenge of the 300 stair walk down to the beach. Note to anyone from Australia - wear your thongs! The beach is made of stones (not pebbles, big stones) so getting into and out of the water is a challenge without something on your feet. Breakfast needs to be ordered with Carlo the night before and costs 5 euros. We didn't order it but there was a coffee machine in the breakfast room - 1 euro for a cappucino - which was fine.
The place was full but we heard no one, except quiet conversation on the adjoining terraces. It was a truly magic place to stay in a picture-perfect town that I had always dreamed of visiting. Positano does not disappoint and neither does Pensione maria Luisa. Recommended!!!!
