Punta Regina was the perfect place to crash after a long day at the beach. Our standard room was large and comfortable and although we faced the street we did not find the noise disturbing. I had tried to upgrade to a larger sea facing room based on reviews but one was not available. I am happy that we stuck with the standard room as the price was right and we spent very little time in the room.

I liked the location as both my boyfriend and I enjoyed being a little removed from all of the action but the walk into the center of town was easy for us. The staff was very sweet and the terrace/breakfast was awesome. Would definitely stay here again and recommend for a comfortable stay.

Room tip: great views

I was really looking forward to staying here after seeing photos and reading all of the reviews, but left feeling like it was just "meh".

We splurged for a deluxe sea view room. The room was large and comfortable, although a bit dated, and the view was really lovely.

Breakfast on the rooftop in the mornings was very good.

All of the staff we communicated with were extremely kind and friendly.

Here were the issues we had:

Internet was terrible. My husband runs his own business, so he can never completely shut down while traveling so, we always stay where we have wifi access. It was so bad, we had to walk down to one of the cafe's on the beach every day just to get wifi.

The in-room hairdryers were terrible. I have a ton of hair and these things didn't even make a dent in drying it. They sent up another one for me that ended up not working at all. The person who brought it up argued with me about it being brand new...as he stood there unable to turn it on. I heard other guests complain about this, too.

This one is strange...the charger/base for my husband's razor went missing. we looked all over for it multiple times and never found it. We talked to the people downstairs about it and they kind of shrugged it off. It's not a thing of any real value. We are guessing that housekeeping may have broken it and just trashed it.

None of these are huge things, but would be easy for the owners to fix. However, based on our experience, I think the rate for this hotel is way too high for what it is.

The hotel is situated 10 minutes walk, down ~380 steps (I tried to count them), from the centre of Positano. You can return via either the steps or walk up the winding road; which we found the easier way up.

Being this far up the hill the hotel is blessed with stunning views of parts of Positano, the coastline and the bay itself.

We were fortunate to stay in one of the suites for 7 nights. The room was a good size, huge bed, sofa + chair seating area and a private balcony with sun loungers, gazebo and an outside jacuzzi bath. If I were to make one negative comment about the room it would be that the shower is somewhat on the small side.

A very nice breakfast was served on the roof terrace of the hotel consisting of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, cakes, meats, cheese, fresh tomatoes, eggs, bacon .... a good choice for everyone. Having mentioned once on arrival my wife's Coeliac disease (complete gluten intolerance), every day a gluten free bowl and toasted bread would arrive on our table. No prompting or asking, it just arrived.

Now the part of the review where I am trying to find the right words to describe our stay. Personally, I stay in a corporate hotels up to 50 nights per year. Though always clean and comfortable, they are mainly just faceless, non descript locations.

Now let's talk about Punta Regina. The staff are what made this hotel, for us, truly exceptional. They arranged a private boat trip, a couple of scooter bookings and dinner out at various restaurants. When we left the room (they monitor this in reception) for breakfast, when we returned we would find the room had been made up. When we returned from dinner, the bed was always turned down. All communal areas of the hotel were maintained to a very good standard; very clean, fresh and no scuffs on walls etc.

Each of the front of house staff we spoke to knew what our arrangements were for that or the following day. We used room service often for drinks which was always prompt and arrived with a friendly face.

A sincere heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Punta Regina but especially Francesca, Manuella, Josepina, Luca and JanLuigi for what has been a truly wonderful, fabulous stay. You people provide the heart and soul of this hotel and made our time here an absolute pleasure.

Room tip: Room 27 has a private terrace + hot tub
