“Wow. Over the top and beyond.”

One of those seldom-visted hotels where everything, and I mean everything, decor, service, food, furnishings is ... just exactly, purposefully, right. And it's only that way because there must be some person behind the scene -- passionately interested in perfection, and in love with this place -- making it so ... 24/7. Add to all this a siting that ... leaves one speechless ... is drop-dead gorgeous, and you have Il San Pietro. Oh yes, and the restaurant fare is similarly superb. The gardens and terraces are fabulous. See where they grow the fresh vegetables and greens that are served up in the restaurant. Love ... life's sweetest reward ... let it flow ... it floats back to you. Wow. Go there. Go there again. Drink deeply. This reviewer was clearly intoxicated by it all.

We spent the first 5 days of our honeymoon here and it we absolutely LOVED it. It is a very unique hotel and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Positano!

Room Tip: We had a room that was recently renovated-- the bathrooms were updated and we thought they were love...

Wonderful in every way. EXTREMELY friendly, Pasquale at the pool has been at the San Pietro for years-I feel is if he is my buddy now. Beautiful rooms, views, food is great by the ocean or up top. I viewed the negative comments just out of curiosity, don't fall trap to those-some people you just can't please. I have been to this property many times, many because I have a hard time at other places on the Amalfi, I compare everything to this place. The only problem is that word is out, this place is getting tougher and tougher to book. Oh if I were there now with a nice bottle of vino, eating the most delicious eggplant dish oceanside. In fact, I may just go ahead and book another trip now!

This is our fourth visit to San Pietro, almost like a home away from home. What can you say about a place that does everything right. The best location, the best staff, so many of the current staff were working at the San Pietro when we first visited 22 years ago. Upon arrival you are greeted like family. The world changes around us, but the San Pietro reminds us of the beauty of refined elegance. Simply a place that all others should try to emulate.

Yep, it really is that beautiful! There is no where you can go on this property that isn’t visual perfection—an explosion of carefully cultivated flora, sweeping Mediterranean views, and cliffside vistas. There just aren’t words for it; it is the definition of romantic! Our double deluxe room was huge and appropriately ornately appointed, with a large bathroom featuring a rainhead shower with views of the pool and sea—I felt like the price we paid for the room was absolutely worth every penny! The ISP just drips luxury and style, as you would expect for a resort this highly rated.

However, for the price we paid, I expected a bit more attention to detail and service. For one thing, there wasn’t a service elevator, and almost every time we got on there was a staff person (or three) carting some load of something somewhere; one time it broke and we had to take the service stairs through the kitchen. The late night desk staff did not really speak English; in fact once we called to ask for 2 buckets of ice and a razor, but after 10 minutes of trying to explain on the phone, they sent up one bucket of ice and two adapters instead. The service at the beach, pool, bar, and breakfast was OK, but not as attentive as I expected. And the prices for everything are ridiculous. Just because I can afford to pay 8 euro for a Coke or 24 euro for a panini does not mean I want to. (FYI Cocktails start at 15, food at the beachfront restaurant started at 18 for a salad.) Despite these weaknesses, however, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

Lastly, be aware that the hotel is a 5-minute shuttle ride from the top eastern edge of Positano, and the main city is a 5-10 minute walk past that. This fact makes for fabulous views of the city from one side of Il San Pietro and sense of being removed from the hustle and bustle, which I loved. But it also means that getting to a restaurant, ferry, shopping, etc, is going to be at least 20 minutes, which I didn’t. Thankfully, pretty much all of the retail establishments have the ISP shuttle number on speed dial so that they can come pick you up, and we never had to wait at the stop more than 5 or 6 minutes. (There is a water taxi from the Positano docks as well, but the water was too choppy to dock at ISP almost every day we were there.)

I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't been covered off in the 150+ other reviews or communicated via the photos.

If you can go, then do it. Note that you'll have to take the complimentary shuttle to and from the town though, and that the rooms aren't as contemporary/modern as some of the other hotels (this place has been around for a while).

Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Il San Pietro de Positano the end of May. We could not have asked for more. The hotel and staff were fabulous. The hotel is expensive, but well worth it. We spent some time at the pool and the attendant treated us as if we were the only people at the pool (we weren't). We have since recommended this hotel to many people.
