“Absolutely, the WORST!!!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Avoid this hotel at all costs, horrible rooms complete with mold. Run down and the staff is incredibly unhelpful. At $600 US per night, you expect 4 star, Motel 6 has better accommodations!! Given this is the high season, we are trapped here for another 2 days, but at least I can warn others. Will be posting pictures of the mold, broken shutters, dilapidated furniture, leaking plumbing, horrible bathrooms and surly staff soon. As a well seasoned traveler, I have never been this disappointed in a property.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel like Hotel Miramare

We stayed at Hotel Villa Franca for 4 nights before our wedding this May and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel itself is located fairly high up and ran a shuttle bus service down to the centre for those who didn't want to brave the 400 steps leading up to the hotel! We enjoyed the walk, however, as the views were spectacular! The highlight of the hotel is the rooftop pool with incredibly comfortable loungers. The staff were friendly, there was a large selection for breakfast and we would definitely stay here again.

Whether you stay at the Villa Franca in Positano or not, a day or night trip is worth it to have a drink mixed by Matteo, the resident bartender in charge. You will find him at the pool in the day and "lobby bar" in the evening.

Mixing drinks is one thing, and this he can do very skillfully. But his humor is something to experience. This genuine, knowledgeable guy will keep you laughing as long as you can drink.
If a video crew filmed him at random, day or night, he would be the next hit and u tube or American TV.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel VIlla Franca for 4 nights in June. We had very high expectations of this hotel being as pricey as it was. It did not live up to our expectations although we did have an enjoyable stay. Firstly, the room we paid for indicated a "partial sea view". I would hardly call it that, we were graced with only several inches of sea view from our balcony. If you can afford the upgrade I would definitely recommend it. Also bear in mind Positano, like most towns in Italy bears only old dwellings and this is one of the older few. Therefore, the rooms are very warn and the bathroom plumping was poor.. Our shower only drizzled water and it took at least 10 mins to maintain a moderate temperature. The bathroom was very small, you could bearly swing a cat! The staff can be helpful if you persist but they are not the friendliest of people.. Our room was right under the bar and it was very noisy at night, we did not sleep well at all. And come 7am you can hear the staff walking around in there high heels on the floor above. On the upside, the room itself was very clean and tidy. The food was great! We ate at the hotel resturant one night and it was one of the best we had in Positano although again expensive.. But that's to be expected as you are blessed with a beautiful view over Positano from the resturant. The best thing about this hotel was the free shuttle service into the town centre, this was a godsend as the town bears thousands of steps! The view from the roof top pool should be noted, it was amazing!

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 26 or on the bottom floor!

This is a beautiful hotel. The décor inside and out is perfect. Blue and white tiles everywhere. Very finished and clean and a fabulous view of the sea. The rooms are very pretty but do not have much storage for clothes. The bed was large and very comfortable. Other than that, it is a gem. We met a lovely woman named Angela who works in the dining rooms. Mateo is friendly and fun behind the bar. They have an excellent breakfast which is included in the room rate. They actually serve EGGS and BACON. The pool area on the roof is really nice but the water was freezing cold. It is quite a hike down to the beach. It is really hard to hike back up. But they have a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes and you can also jump in a taxi to come back up. We would definitely stay here again and hope we get back someday.

Room Tip: Although every room has an interesting view you should pay the extra money so you can wake up every...

We stayed at Hotel Villa Franca for the last leg of our trip in Italy from April 19th to April 21st. Gorgeous views from our Double Superior Sea View. Breakfast was included. Room was small but tolerable. But there is something wrong with the hotel management. We have two large complaints:

1) Our door was open when we got back to our room! We were surprised to see our room door unlocked AND wide opened! We complained to the hotel staff but we received a casual response - "It must've been the maid." There was no action that took place or even a response to assure us that that would not happen again.

2) No refund. We originally wanted to stay at this hotel until the 22nd, but our airline - Lufthansa - had a corporate-wide labor protest on April 22nd. We unfortunately were forced to leave a night earlier at Hotel Villa Franca. We were hoping for at least a partial refund or some understanding (perhaps give a credit to stay at the hotel on our next trip to Positano?), but the answer was "no."

Summary: You get gorgeous views because the hotel is located on a cliff and the room has a balcony. But we worry about the management and wished they could've done better.

Room Tip: There are two sides of the hotel: facing the water or facing the neighborhood/street in the rear. Hi...
