This is a modest sized, not quite luxury hotel in a great location. I say not quite luxury because it lacked some services a luxury hotel might have, like onsite parking, a large elevator, larger staff, etc. The hotel is beautifully decorated and appointed, with a distinctive blue and white tile motif. The lobby area, restaurant and rooftop pool take full advantage of the view, so you wind up eating an excellent breakfast overlooking Positano and the coast. In any photo of Positano taken looking westward across the ravine the hotel is seen as the big white box, with flags, at the top of a hill along via Pasitea. We spent some time just hanging out at the hotel.

Our room was one of the less desirable ones on a lower floor of the hotel, but still had a narrow view of the sea and a small, shared patio, and apart from some noise from the adjacent kitchen, a lovely room, really. One should avoid the annex, which is a short walk away; one can find lots of photos of the Villa Franca on Expedia and Tripadvisor, and room suggestions on Tripadvisor as well.

We found the service in the Villa Franca to be a bit stiff, or perfunctory, but adequate. The staff at our other two Italy hotels were more than friendly and helpful.

Positano can be hard on the knees, because of the stairs, so location of a hotel is a consideration. The only disadvantage I saw to the via Pasitea location of Villa Franca is a more difficult trip down to the town beach and to the via dei Mulini shopping area. However, one can comfortably walk along via Pasitea (watching for cars and scooters). In the uphill direction, it is short walk to the Chiesa Nuova bus stop for all the SITA buses along the coast, and downhill to many fine restaurants and shops, eventually reaching Piazza Mulini. The hotel operates a free shuttle service back and forth to that Piazza at popular hours. There are also local buses along the several major roads in town.

Room Tip: Our room on a lower floor (with the wine cellar) was fine, except sometimes noisy from the adjacent...

Stayed in Positano at the Villa Franca for 5 nights. It was excellent. So nice to see a hotel that does exactly what it says on the tin. This is a 4 star hotel. Not a 3 star that is pretending – it’s a real, quality 4 star hotel for those visiting Positano who don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices at the bottom of the hill.
The service was excellent. The hotel was clean, safe, bright, well positioned, well presented and reasonably priced.
Could the breakfast be a bit more varied????????
I will come back to Positano as it is superb – and I will stay at Villa Franca – simple as that.

When I was traveling to Italy, I was told to stay at Le Sirenuse. I booked Le Sirenuse, but boy is it pricey. We could only stay 2 nights at that price, so my travel agent talked me into changing to Hotel Villa Franca. She said it's "basically the sam hotel as Le Sirenuse but for a lot less money". I should have known that it was too good to be true. Although the pics on the website show a beautiful view, that view was only from the pool and the lobby / restaurant. The rooms were very small, old, with mis-matched furniture. And the bathrooms were so not fitting a luxury hotel. One thing to note when going to Positano, is the hotel location in reference to the town center. You really want to be in a hotel within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, beaches, etc. The Villa Franca is so far up top of the hill in town, that you need to take shuttles back and forth. I guess you could walk, and we did a couple of times - down is easy (although still takes about 15 minutes) and back is a trek straight uphill.

We stayed at Hotel Villa Franca for our wedding in Positano. On arrival at the hotel, we were shown to our room which was breathtaking I have to say - incredible views of the town, beach and sea. The room was large with a good size balcony and a lot of plush amenities in the room. We couldn't fault the hotel. I can't comment on breakfast as we never made it in time but we will be returning for sure so hopefully we will get to sample it at some point! Definitely book this hotel if you're looking for something special in Positano.

It is a hotel with good room excellent restaurant, yet you have to walk 15 minutes to the beach / city center. They have a van driving you. It was not an issue for me but if you like to be in the middle of everything you will miss that here.

I will come back. Highly recommended.

Hotel Villa Franca

Wow – what a gem! This hotel was fabulous – we loved everything about it. My husband and I were in Positano for four nights in April and had a Double Deluxe room with a balcony. We could not be more pleased with our stay there. We fell in love with Positano, this hotel, and Southern Italy in general.

The Pros:
• It’s just really a lovely hotel – very well-decorated, well run, and with top notch amenities. It’s family owned and run and the owners are on site.
• The front desk staff were amazingly helpful, both before and during our stay. They promptly answered a million questions about Positano, Capri, tours, and myriad other topics via email before we arrived. While there they arranged for shipment of our purchases home, helped with translation when we were making dinner arrangements, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and restful.
• The hotel is on one of the highest points in the town with a panoramic view of the town and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It has to be one of the best views on the Amalfi Coast.
• The steps down to the town start right outside the hotel. There are a lot of them, but it’s a fun walk down. We didn’t walk back up.
• The room was well decorated and very large by European standards.
• The bathroom was good-sized with a tub/shower.
• Love, love, love the towels.
• There were no issues with noise, either inside or outside the hotel.
• The room was spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel.
• The hotel provides free WiFi throughout.
• It has a beautiful rooftop pool which we didn’t use because the outdoor temperature was not quite warm enough during our stay.
• The hotel restaurant, Li Galli, is top-notch and the wait staff could not have been more efficient or friendly. The views and the service were incredible and the food was absolutely amazing.
• Morning buffet breakfast was excellent and included some of the best cappuccino we’ve had.
• The hotel has a free shuttle van that dropped us off and picked us up in town.
• The spa has a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and offers spa services.
• There are plenty of excellent restaurants in and around Positano within a short shuttle trip, a walk down the steps, or a drive. Some restaurants will provide shuttle service to and from the hotel.

The Cons:
I have to stretch to find any.
• We couldn’t figure out how to use the TV in our room, but really didn’t care.
• My husband loves a good exercise room with weights and that was missing.

We would heartily recommend this hotel and the town of Positano with no caveats. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

Positano lived up to all the reviews! Fabulous food, fabulous people and breathtaking views! The hotel was a pleasure- our room had an incredible view, was beautifully furnished, and the public areas, dining and lobby were lovely as well. We enjoyed our breakfast every morning with the open air dining area and the service and food was an added treat.
The only downside, which we found all over Italy, was that the beds are quite firm (to the point of being hard). Evidently pillow top mattresses have not yet become popular in Europe!
We traded off walking stairs (500+) and weaving out way through the traffic, but the shops and local vendors were a treat to visit on the way.
