The view from this hotel is amazing! Great to have shuttle service to and from town. We always walked down to town and took the shuttle back for a little exercise every day!

We booked a superior sea view room. While I expected a smaller space, I was not prepared for the balcony view we had. It was small and barely fit two people, however, it was covered in plants and vines that was swarming with insects making it impossible to sit and enjoy the view. With all the foliage around the balcony you didn't have a view anyway.

The hotel pool probably has the best view in all of Positano. There aren't many lounge chairs by the pool so if you are going to utilize the pool, its best to get there early. The breakfast in the morning was sufficient to get us started for the day.

The hotel staff was a bit unfriendly. I felt like I was inconviencing them by asking for a reservation to a local restaurant or trying to book spa appointments. The owners are always walking around the common areas with no interaction with their guests. They always looked mad. I tried to ask Sr Russo a question and he waived me off as if I was interupting his smoke break.

Finally, the bar and food prices were very expensive. When we arrived we went straight up to the pool for a drink while waiting for our room and ordeded drinks. I didn't know the prices until I saw the menu in our room. You could get dinner and drinks in a local restuarant in town for two people, at the price of one person at the hotel restaurant.

We spent three wondrous nights at the Villa Franca in May, and were absolutely thrilled! Our double room was spacious, airy and bright, and had a small private balcony with a phenomenal birds-eye view of Positano and a panoramic view of the bay. A delightful breakfast was served each morning, all of the employees were very cordial, and the top floor featured a fabulous pool and bar area which has to win a prize for having one of the most spectacular views in all of Positano! We particularly appreciated the shuttle bus which the hotel ran to the main shopping and restaurant area of Positano every morning and evening. Since Positano is a vertical city, we welcomed the chance to walk downhill to shop, dine or explore other towns along the Amalfi Coast by boat, knowing we could easily catch the private shuttle bus back uphill to our hotel at the end of each day.

Positano is one of the most amazing and beautiful cities in the world; a stay at the Villa Franca will make your visit complete!

Room Tip: We requested a double room with a sea view. The phenomenal view was worth the price!

Villa Franca promises so much, dominating Positano like a white castle standing at the apex of the skyline. And surrounding its rooftop pool, blue flags flutter in the breeze, proudly proclaiming the hotel insignia. The public rooms give a spacious feel with open floor to ceiling windows providing a magnificant view of the resort below.
But within minutes of arriving a feeling of disappointment started to come over us. I had booked a superior room for 2 weeks in the main hotel & informed them it was our honeymoon . For a hotel of this apparent standard the room was tiny & storage space totally inadequate. The air conditioning didn't work & the back of its remote control was missing. When complaining to the manager of our misgivings I was informed in a patronising manner that the rooms of all Positano hotels were this size because they were once private homes. We were promised a bigger room in The Residence the next day & this turned out to be lovely.
With the sun glinting on the sea below, Sr Russo, the owner with a voice as dark as an expresso, bon giorno'd you into the breakfast room. It offered a wonderful display of breads, Italian dolci, fresh fruit, assorted meats, cheeses, yoghurts & cereals that was more than adequate to set us for the day .
Above all as a family run hotel of this standard what let Villa Franca down with a few exceptions were the staff . No system seems to be in place to make sure staff follow through on guests' requests, use their initiative or behave in a professional manner at all times. Every time we asked reception staff to make a restaurant or excursion booking it was forgotten, we just got into the habit of reminding them. The pool staff - why they needed two - were surly & unco-operative. They would just sit there chatting while we struggled to move heavy shades & tables. It would seem the amount of money you spent at the bar was proportionate to the service you got! A potentially dangerous situation arose when one of the attendants got a bit too friendly with a guest culminating with her being thrown into the 1.5 metre deep pool! When getting the hotel shuttle down to the beach to catch the early ferry to Capri, & knowing we were in a hurry, the driver stopped to buy a paper! This he did again on another of our morning excursions.
In essence,Villa Franca is a lovely hotel but to be a great hotel it needs to put alot more effort into staff training.

Room Tip: Rooms in The Residence seem to be larger but check when booking. A/C wont work with window open. All views spectacular except those facing street.

We spent 4 nights here and it is a stunning place to stay. The breakfast is truly awesome. The restaurant staff are fantastic. The only criticism is the front desk staff who came accross a little arrogant at times. The pool is the icing on the cake. Such a great way to relax and soak up the sun and the beautiful town below. Will definitely be back.

nice hotel with a wonderful view and lovely breakfast. Cool rooftop pool was really crowded until after 6 but a great place to share an after dinner drink (that you need to bring) with friends. Great laundromat that will wash and fold your clothes is just a couple of doors away and a super nice little grocery that also sells wine is right next to hotel. many, many steps to beach-but a great way to work off the pasta. the hotel shuttle is only OK-not super convenient. i hope to stay here again.
