“Room 210 and the staff at Miramare are top-notch!”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

My husband and I spent the first five nights of our honeymoon in Room 210 at Miramare. Nicola welcomed us warmly and a bottle of champagne awaited us in our room. Room 210 is large, airy and spacious. The room was spotless, the bed was comfortable and we really loved the shower – it was massive and we loved looking at the water while we showered. The very private terrace had a table with two chairs and two sunbed chairs – this is where we spent most of our time, enjoying the view. A few mornings we had breakfast delivered to our room but we also enjoyed eating in the breakfast room, which was fabulous. We stayed at four hotels on our honeymoon and the breakfast, the service and the room size at Miramare were the best we experienced. The young man (Renaldo) who prepared breakfast was helpful and hardworking. If we needed wine glasses or some ice, he delivered it immediately to our room. The location of the hotel is perfect, about 100 steps down from the main road and 200 steps down to the beach. Nicola gave us beach towels every day and even offered us a beach bag. The property is beautiful and we really enjoyed the complimentary boat ride. Folks staying at Miramare should not be steered away from eating at La Tagliata. We ate at this restaurant and both agree that this was the most spectacular (and fun!) meal of our trip (there is a reason it is #1 in Positano on Trip Advisor). Overall, both Rosita and Nicola made us feel very special on our honeymoon and the Miramare catered to us and is worth every penny. We cannot wait to go there again.

Room Tip: Room 210 was amazing...the terrace is HUGE and we loved the shower.

I don't typically write reviews but I felt compelled because our stay was so excellent. My wife and I spent 3 nights in September 2011. Our driver called ahead and the bellman met us to bring the bags to our room. Don't think you will be handling your own bags! It is 200 or so steps to the hotel lobby and they are steep. The bellman tied our 2 - 50lb bags together and carried them over his shoulder to our room. It was amazing, he did the same on the way out. Rosita greeted us in the lobby and she was awesome!!!! See let us adjourn to our room for a little rest from our travel but told us to get with her and she would help us with anything we need related to excursions, shopping and dining. Rosita, arranged for us to take a boat trip along the coast to Amalfi. It was great and the captain allowed us to get off and swim as well as jump from the rocks, really fun don't miss it. She also set us up with an excursion to Capri which was nice and again guided and very comfortable (don't take the Jet it is packed with people). The room was clean, balcony very nice with a great view and the morning buffet was excellent. Lastly, she recommended some great places to eat. All and all it was excellent and would stay again in a minute. Thanks to the entire staff for making our stay so memorable.

We didn't realize how many steps the local residents have to work with, but we went there with an open mind and tired legs from our previous stops.
Rosita greeted us and told us just what to do and what to see. The world needs more of her type. We followed her path after we settled in a lovely room, clean and welcoming.
The view was marvelous. From the first minute in the Miramare, we felt that we could not have done better. The breakfast was good and the coffee was real and not from an electric hotel machine.
We must go back.

This was our third trip to Positano and our second stay at the Albergo Miramare. In fact the hotel picture above is our room, but you can't have a bad room, or bad view. It's heaven on earth to stand on your balcony and pinch yourself how beautiful Positano is. The rooms are large with beautiful decor and large glass doors frame the Mediterranian with flowers everywhere. The breakfast was the largest we had in Italy, including,,scrambled eggs, know less. The staff is very friendly and there are no language problems. Now about the best part,,,Rosita,,who made us feel like family and took care of all our needs, greeting us coming and going with a hug, smile and sincere concerns that our visit was everything we wanted. Thank you to the hotel staff for a wonderful memory.

Room Tip: No bad rooms...

We very much enjoyed our 4 nights at Hotel Miramare. The room, view and service were quite good for the most part. The location definitely requires stairs no matter where you go but it seems the alternative is being on the noisy main road or down on the beach. In addition, the inclusion of a half day boat trip was an excellent perk of staying here. We had a few minor nit picks with the property but overall, would very much recommend it.

We were in room 210, which had a large patio overlooking the ocean and town, as well as a shower with a glass wall facing the ocean. The cushions on the patio furniture could be redone as they were a little dirty and didn’t look overly appealing. The view, however, makes you forget them pretty quickly. We loved watching the comings and goings of all the boats and ferries, plus the twinkling lights of the town at night. This balcony doesn’t have any shade though and the sun kept it quite hot, even early in the morning (and we like the heat!). The shower view was really great but not for shy visitors – boaters would have a good view if they knew where to look, especially at night. It was a treat for us to shower with such a view, but might bother some, as there is no way to close off or opaque the glass.

The room was quite large by European standards but it was broken up into a bedroom and ‘sitting’ room, which we mostly only used as a large closet. The mattress and linens were good, the AC and shower pressure were great. Housekeeping and the turndown service were thorough and unobtrusive. Overall we really liked the room.

As most have mentioned, Rosita is quite helpful. Her first dinner recommendation of Next Too was great and aligned with my previous research on restaurants. Her second one of Lo Guarracino was less so – it was probably a more suitable place for lunch as the service was quite rushed and the lighting definitely wasn’t romantic as she had indicated. I guess for the reason of the distance/shuttle ride required, she steered us away from Tagliata and Il Rotrovio (we went to the latter our last night and did enjoy it). She was right though that Da Vincenzo is on the busy road and not as romantic as portrayed. So I would say some of her recommendations were spot on and others less so. Doing our own research helped balance it out. Regardless, she was very helpful with ferry schedules, how to get around, etc. and she is extremely welcoming as a host.

The other staff members were average to good. The breakfast staff was less than helpful so that was a little disappointing. You had to ask them for everything – they never came to check on you, just chatted with each other in the back. The other front desk people were as helpful as they could be, but their English was okay to non-existent and we don’t speak Italian. I tried to save my questions for Rosita. The porter is employed by the hotel which is very convenient. When we were ready to leave, we just let the desk know and he was made available. We didn’t realize the value of this until we went to Capri and our hotel there needed our bags two hours in advance for the porter.

Breakfast was very good for a traditional European breakfast. The breakfast room is pretty but gets quite hot. We never saw the bar open, but when we wanted glasses for a bottle of bubbly on our patio, they were quickly brought to us.

The location is great in that it is part way between the main road (where lots of the shops and restaurants are) and the beach. You do have a significant number of steps to either of these though. I don’t think my parents (in their 60’s and fairly active) could do it.

Overall, we did very much enjoy our stay. My review probably sounds a little critical compared to others but I think the magnificence of Positano maybe clouds some other reviews. But truly, the hotel is great and we would stay there again. My few concerns are minor in light of everything else.

The unsurpassed thing about Hotel Miramare is its staff, particularly Rosita and Nicola. From the moment of our arrival they went out of their way to make our stay there as pleasing as possible. Rosita planed out for us a thorough itinerary for every day of our stay there, even though we did not even ask for it. A very refreshing and exceptional behaviour in a commercial hotel; for the owner's sake we only hope that they compensate their staff generously as deserved. Moreover, the extraordinary view we had from our room and private balcony, was practically second to none we have ever experienced before. The breakfast is very generous complimented with fresh local fruits and produce, topped by the best cappuccino we had in a long time. All the above made us just about forget the 'thousands' of steps we climbed during our stay in Positano, and made our vacation a very memorable one.

This was a beautifully decorated, very classy hotel with balconies overlooking the sea. The rooms were luxurious with very comfortable beds, all the amenities, and a well-stocked minibar. The shower was a little disappointing with old hardware which made it hard to control the water force and temperature. The hostess Rosita was almost over-the-top friendly and very anxious to please with many suggestions and helpful tips. [She was a little over-enthusiastic about the "Walk of the Gods" a quite difficult hiking path far above the town on which you tread paths only a couple of feet wide on the edge of cliffs several hundred feet high. The views were breath-taking but we should have been forewarned that it is an arduous climb which requires good hiking shoes\boots, possibly a walking stick, a wide brim hat (on sunny days) and plenty of water. It's not a bad idea to bring a picnic lunch if you attempt this hike which from Positano to Nocelle will probably be about 4 - 5 hrs depending on your physical condition.] The hotel itself is about 4-5 flights of stairs up the mountain from the marina where the boat will let you off! So if you have any difficulty with steps, this hotel is not a great choice. It is a significant flight of stairs to the upper town for restaurants or the bus stop as well as to the lower town for the beaches, marina, and restaurants. The breakfast included in the room rate was a full menu with cooked items, pastry, and fruits. Overall, we felt this was a good value despite the somewhat higher price than other hotels in town. We enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you face the mediterranean.
