“Some good news, some not-so-good news”
Reviewed October 18, 2006

First of all, the good news. The view is great. The rate of 120 Euro was decent, in relation to all other properties in Positano. Short walk to the beach. Owners spoke English quite well, which made things much easier than it could've been.

The not-so-good news. On several occasions, encountered some friction with the brother & sister owners. Felt like we actually had to take the high ground so not to appear as the 'rude tourists'. We were simply asking for assistance on phone calls, since the rooms do not have phones in them that allow external calls. They do have phones in each room that only allow you to call the owners. So you have to call the brother/sister owners in order to make reservations, request your car from parking, call for tickets to various events, etc. On at least a few occasions, the owners were clearly frustrated by our requests for phone calls. If it's that frustrating, then simply place regular phones in the rooms. To top if off, they charge you for each call they made.

One day, we and another couple encountered strange individuals in the hallway to the rooms. These strange individuals were standing in the dark (the hallway lights have to be turned on by you), wearing baggy jackets when it's 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside. It became clear very quickly that they were not guests. ...we had met the guests staying next to us...and these individuals were not them. The owners came by at that point and asked them a few questions and then that was it....off they went. After requesting the gate to the property remain locked throughout the day (guests have a key to this lock, so it would not have restricted access to legitimate guests) they did not lock it. Considering all of the theft warnings given throughout the area, including high # of room break-ins and car thefts, it's perplexing that basic precautions aren't taken...ESPECIALLY after encountering this situation,

Lastly, there were ants in the room. And a note taped to the in-room fridge says "WARNING!" so I'm thinking it's something serious. The note then goes on to say that you're not allowed to store anything in the little fridge...that it's just for the goodies they keep in there for you to buy. And that if you store anything in there it could break the fridge. Come on, you've got to be kidding me....

Overall, we were disappointed not by the property itself with its great view and reasonable price....but instead by the owners and the little hassles they generated (ie. attitude, phones, fridge).

My stay in June of 06 was one of the most relaxing enjoyable times I have ever had.
The Inn is impecable, beautiful, views are to die for, staff is incredible, food is great, location marvelous.

The family runs this fabulous INN, and I felt as if I was home.
I will definetly go again soon, I have already referred my family there.. I miss it so!

I logged onto the Trip Advisor website to check this place out after I'd booked and was worried by the mixed reviews. My personal experience is; If you are looking for a first rate, good value B & B in the most convenient and accessable part of Positano then look no further! Casa Consenza was an ideal base. It's very handy for all the ferries, beach, shopping and restaurants. Despite my initial sharp intake of breath at the flight of steps to CC, by day three I was up and down like a mountain goat! Be aware that Positano is made up of a labryinth of steep stepways - to get to most of the hotels you will need to climb... (handy hint is to walk down, but if you're tired and want to get back to CC the easy way, climb the slope behind the Duomo and get the 'interno' bus for 1 euro from the main square which will drop you off at the top of the steps - much easier down route!) The family were very helpful and friendly and the rooms are spacious, clean and probably have one of the best views in Positano. To sit on your balcony terrace and watch the town come alive in the evening is wonderful. I would recommend Casa Consenza to all and any like minded travellers..
