In late October, 2012, my family gathered to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. There were 11 of us including my mom, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their significant others. It was a stretch location to pick because my mother is handicapped and Positano is meant for those who can walk up stairs and hills. This hotel is the only hotel in Positano on the beach level although getting her to the hotel took some creativity (she got a ride in the luggage cart from the car park 600 meters straight up hill from the hotel).

The rooms were gorgeous and since it was end of the season and only 25% occupancy, they upgraded us, each with spacious rooms with sitting areas and balconies overlooking the sea. Additionally, the bathrooms were gorgeous (love a nice bathroom), beds large and super comfortable, bath products nice, robes plush, etc. There was even satellite tv so we could watch our San Francisco Giants baseball team win the World Series in the wee hours of the night.

When we arrived, Roserio was presented to us as the staff person who would help us with our needs and questions. He in fact was extremely helpful in all ways.. from showing us to our rooms, making us drinks and snacks in the bar where we gathered in the evening before dinner, recommending activities and restaurants to go to, and making sure my mother was comfortable and got help walking and to and from the road where Roserio had arranged transportation for us. He seemed to ALWAYS be available, as if he worked night and day and was pleasant, eager and energetic.

The rest of the staff was equally helpful and professional in all ways. The restaurant food was delicious. We had a number of dinners at the hotel and lunch by the pool (salt water over looking the sea). They had a wonderful menu and also offered to make any dish we felt like eating even if it wasn't on the menu. We ate a few meals by the pool and dinner was either in a gorgeous dinning room with windows or outside on the patio since the weather was great. Note, the pool was not heated and was colder than swimming in the sea that time of the year.

The staff helped us plan and arrange a number of activities including chartering a boat that took us to and round the island of Capri (we swam in the grottos and took the tram up to town for lunch); hiring a driver to take some of us to Naples for a tour and to the opera; and three of us sturdy hikers took a bus to Pirhana, a town 15 minutes away by road, and walked the "Path of the Gods" which took us up an hour and a half climb to the top of the mountains and then through hill towns, a convent, and back to Positano 3 1/2 hours later.

Shopping in town was fun and not expensive by San Francisco standards.

I can't speak highly enough of the hotel and the experience we had there. I also think it was helpful to be there after tourist season when we were waited on hand and foot.

Room Tip: Any facing the sea - with a balcony. The room that our family of four had was spectacular - it had a canapied master bed, another sitting area, another room with two singles, another office/reading room and a balcony.

We have had the privilege of staying at Raffles Hotel in Singapore, The Oriental Hotel in Bangkok and The Regent in Hong Kong. Covo Dei Saraceni in Positano, Italy is by far the most beautiful and elegant hotel we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The staff was attentive, accommodating and very warm and friendly. Our suite had a terrace with a breathtaking view of The Mediterranean. Paoulo, hotel sommelier, recommended the perfect wine to enjoy with our dinner to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. He was a perfect gentleman. We renewed our vows at The Church Santa Maria of the Assunta just down the street from the hotel. We plan to return next year. Grazie Covo Dei Saraceni!

Room Tip: Junior Suite

I can't say enough good things about our experience at Covo. We stayed there for our anniversary and upon arriving, we were upgraded to a junior suite. The staff were fantastic! They helped us out everyday and made reservations for us and arranged for transportation to any place that we asked. Big thanks to Augusto, Paolo, Rosario, the entire front desk staff and wait staff at breakfast and in the hotel restaurant. They were fantastic. The view from our room was amazing and was a scene straight out of a movie. The hotel location was great with plenty of restaurants, shopping and the beach right outside your doorstep. We had unseasonably warm weather and everything was perfect during our stay. Thanks Covo, we can't wait to return!!

Just returned from a five night visit in Positano (our first) and a stay at Covo dei Saraceni. The hotel is on the beach (literally) and is unlike many of the other luxury properties in Positano for that reason. It is old school elegant. The common areas are inviting and the rooms we saw (ours and one other) were terrific. Our room was on the Third Floor (out of five) and had a plunge pool with a giant veranda. It was recently redone and spectacular. You pay for this--trust me. But it was so worth it. The Fifth Floor of the hotel has a rooftop pool which overlooks the beach and the entire town of Positano. Fabulous--particularly because we had unusually warm October weather (80 degrees plus for 4 days straight). The location and the distinctive character of the building aside, the staff is what separates Covo from other properties in my opinion. A big shout out to Augusto (who runs the pool bar), Rosario (one of the finest room service attendants I've ever experienced), Paolo (the head waiter), the front desk staff (helpful and relaxed), and the gentleman (whose name I forget) who oversaw our breakfast each morning in one of the more elegant rooms in the property. I've stayed in some great places in my life and I've stayed in nicer properties in the sense that they were more updated and contemporary. But I don't recall staying in a place that had it all: an understated elegance and sophistication matched by spectacular views and uncompromising services. Try the Covo!

Room Tip: Pay the piper and get a room with a plunge pool on the veranda. You will not be disappointed.

Loved the location !Breakfast was very good. Happy with restaurant , both food and service.
Staff friendly and helpful !
Side trip to Naples was fantastic.
Boat tour of Almalfi Coast breathtaking.
Maybe, October isn't as busy ,but the hotel was very quiet even with 2 weddings held there during our stay.

Room Tip: they are all facing the sea (I think). which is definetely what you want
