Owner description: Positano Boats is an hire boats and luxury charter company of the young entrepreneurs from Positano, born from the passion for the sea and a big admiration for the Amalfi Coast. The desire to do much to do and especially the desire to let everyone know the beauty of the Divine Coast, the nostalgia of the amalfitan Dolce vita and the Italian style make this young company truly unique. Kindness, courtesy, customer care and knowledge of the sea are the must.

We just returned from a week in Italy and I must say that the day we spent on the Madonna with Franco as our captain was the highlight of the week. We were a group of 10 people and loved every minute we spent on the water. The trip into the town of Capri was just "so-so"...too many tourists but we found our way along a path to a high cliff and enjoyed the view...the rest of the day on the water was magnificent. It was as if Franco could read our minds...he knew exactly what we wanted to do and how long we wanted to stay...we swam, visited all the beautiful grottos and passed slowly by the fantastic cliffs, he dropped us for a nice lunch(a little pricey compared to what you pay on the mainland) and after, we enjoyed a slow trip back to our little harbor in Massa Lubrense. He was charming and an excellent captain. A day I will remember as relaxing and peaceful in the October sunshine.

Our group of 6 booked a full day trip to Capri from Praiano with Positano Boats, as recommened by our hotel. It was everything promised and more, and was one of the highlights of our trip. They picked us up at 9 a.m. at the beach just below Praiano, along with three other couples, motored all the way around the island of Capri, getting up close to the rugged coastline and various grottos, and giving us the opportunity to swim off the boat. They dropped us off in the harbor of Capri with 4 hours to explore and have lunch, and then picked us up at 4:00 a.m. for our return trip to Positano and then Praiano. It was an added bonus to see Positano from the water. The captain provided cold soft drinks and beer on board, took photos of all of us with our various cameras and absolutely went out of his way to accomodate whatever we requested. All this for a cost of 56 euro per person, with basically door to door service.

Definitely take a boat to see the Amalfi Coast, but do not use Positano Boats unless you enjoy being lied to, verbally abused by your captain (Franko), and driving at a ridiculously slow speed.

In late September we paid 900 euro to charter the largest boat for our group of 4.  The only reason why we chartered the largest boat was because we were promised that this boat because of it's speed would be able to to take us to Capri, see all of the groto's, and then return down the Amalfi coast.  I noticed at the beginning of our ride that this "fast boat" that we had chartered was being passed by everyone.  I asked Franko why we are going so slow, and his answer was - " plenty of time, try to enjoy life, you Americans are always rushing".  After going to Capri, he continued this slow pace, and I asked him how long it would take to get to the waterfalls.  His response - "we are not going".  I told him we had paid to do this.  He then called the owner of Positano Boats and they requested another $250 euros.  I told him No of course, and he proceeded to tell me that I was " like a little Italian boy", trying to scam his company.  He continued to verbally insult us until we returned to the port.  Once at the port, I relayed this to the lady at the booking tent, and she could have cared less.  Horrible service from the owner down to the captain Franko.  The most expensive day of our trip was ruined because we chose the wrong company.

We booked a boat ride with a skipper, for the two us on a 'Aprea 7.50' with Positano Boats for a two hour pleasant trip along the amalfi coastline from Positano to Amalfi (one way). It was perfect weather and the boat ride was a leisurely sightseeing trip from the water of this amazing and beautiful area, best observed by boat. Our skipper pointed out alot of places of interest along the way. We went into a small opening in a cliff face with the boat and into a wonderful cool haven of a small 'grotto'. Not to be confused with the Grotta Smeraldo. The skipper asked if we wanted to be dropped off for a visit to the Green Grotto and we thought why not? Well it wasn't worth the 5 Euro each and the extra tip we left for the italian guy who gave a commentary of no significance, and sung woefully!
Our skipper took us back onboard and we cruised leisurely along. When asked if we wanted to stop for a swim, we jumped off the boat into the most amazing clear cooling emerald coloured water, while the relaxed skipper waited on board without any pressure for us to move on. We wallowed in the water for a while, allowing the relaxation of being in an environment that was safe, clean and carefree. It made us feel very young again, that's for sure. The skipper took us onto Amalfi where we farewelled our personal water taxi. A wonderful lunch was enjoyed in Amalfi and we got an airconditioned taxi back to Positano.

We hired a boat from Praiano (they brought the boat from Positano along to Marina di Praia for us) and sailed up past Amalfi, Maori, Marini, Cetara, to Salerno, then back down again to Praiano, Positano, before heading out to Capri and sailing around the island. It was a perfect day and it was fantastic to be able to sail the Amalfi Coast ourselves. It was the only company we found in Praiano that offered boat hire where you could skipper yourselves, and the boat we hired looked brand new - it was very comfortable and went very well.
They are very friendly and helpful at the office in Praiano. I would thoroughly recommend hiring a boat and sailing the Amalfi Coast - it was definitely the highlight of our trip. Brilliant !
