Le Agavi has dated decore, with views from every room and direction that exceed dreams. We called to say that our ferry would arrive at 12:30 and to ask for a pick up. They promised to pick us up with pleasure...at 3:30, as a special trip just for us since we would be tired. Much confused back and forth elicited the fact that there was a regularly scheduled shuttle stop at 1:30 or so. We gave up, sent our luggage ahead by porter and carried on with our day, arriving at the hotel around dinner time, and after check-in and a warning not to try to find the room without a porter, were greeted by the bartender who insisted that we enjoy pineapple on an elaborate toothpick. The lobby would be my grandmother's decorating dream, but probably not yours -- a mixture of ornate, brocaded furniture, multiple undersized for the space oriental rugs, marble and disco-y mirrors. To get to our room (which was in a relatively accessable part of the hotel as it turns out) took two separate elevator rides and a haul down two flights of steps. The room, their "classic" category had dated and haphazard decorating (including china cabinet with a dozen curios) and very bright blue walls. Below average bathrooms for this hotel class (there were an unnecessary two) and an inexplicable second room with a pull out sofa and desk completed the suite. All of this was forgotten immedately upon seeing the private double terrace with as stunning a view as I have seen anywhere.
Around the extensive vertical (there are at least 10 stories from top to bottom) space there are nice public and private terraces of every description. I can't imagine that there is a room without a view. The adventure to get to the beach alone was worth the price. It takes about 12 minutes to get there via three separate elevators, funicular, and a long tunnel plus additional sets of stairs. The mostly grounds are filled with flowers and plants, and at least one room had a private pool. The small beach area and restaurant at the beach are a real pleasure, and private, not to be underestimated in Positano. The hotel pool has, characterisitcally, a magnificent view too. It would be easy to spend several days just relaxing at the hotel, with breaks to go into Positano for shopping or meals. Breakfast was average, the free shuttle into town worked fine when we took it and there is a convienent flag stop for the costal bus (between Salerno and Sorrento) right outside the hotel's door. If you don't mind the eccentricities of the hotel, some of which are due to the physical setting, others of which are its own, and want pool and private beach access that I imagine are comparable to the other big two in town, but at a lower price, and the slightly out of town location doesn't trouble you, give it a try.

In reality it is the location of this hotel that makes it. Nestled on the side on the cliffs with a private beach and every room having a fantastic view. The complimentary shuttle bus in and out of Positano makes this hotel an ideal choice. The rooms are clean, spacious and well located, though the doors aren't very thick, so you hear every noise in the corridor. The breakfast is fine and the staff agreeable.
Was it the best hotel on our honeymoon? No, but this was just because the others set the bar so high.
We were undoubtedly the youngest guests there, but as we were on our honeymoon it made little difference to us. Positano itself is lovely, fantastic restaurants, particularly Restaurant Max, the best restaurant we've ever eaten in, which as foodies, says something. Don't go though expecting nightlife, it is very quiet and everyone seems to hit the pillow around half eleven, again it suited us, but not everyone. The hotel is the best with the facilities we wanted within our price range.

We went to Postiano for our Honeymoon and after booking the hotel i read some reviews on here, some good and bad. But i wanted to write a review to let everyone know what a fantastic hotel is really is. The View is amazing, the staff will do anything for you, the pool and beach areas are great. The food is brilliant, fresh seafood every night.

The hotel does have a lot of stairs but there are lifts so this didn't cause any problems. The grounds of the hotel are perfect, lots and lots of fruit and olive trees.

I would really recommend staying here if you want to enjoy the sun, relax, eat good food and drink wine.

We enjoyed everything, we even got a water taxi from the town to our hotel.

My husband and I stayed in Positano in Sept of 2006...only getting to writing the review now. With that said I loved it! Our room was beautiful, two rooms with two full bathroom, patio entrance in both rooms. All rooms in the hotel over look the sea, some of the best pictures I have taken in Italy are from the Le Agavi hotel They have a free shuttle bus every 30-60 mins down into town. The staff was so helpful. We had a rental car which was due back in another town and they arranged for it to be picked up, which helped us save time.
Getting around Positano or the coast in general is real tough and slow, but worth it! The food at the hotel was okay, def worth going into town for the local food and fun.

What a wonderful location. The views from the hotel are breathtaking and the service and food are as good as it gets. My only reservation was that the room was a little smaller than expected
but it was quaint and spotlessly clean. We stopped in the main hotel which proved to be a bonus because waiting for the fenicular just to and from the beach could be a chore . I've travelled extensively through Europe and have not stayed at a hotel which offers so such.
