We stayed at the Palazzo Murat for 3 nights this month (Sept 2011) for our wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the service was second to none. We were upgraded to a suite #206 which was a very pleasant surprise and made the whole experience wonderful! The staff are polite and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are chic and the exterior of the hotel is decadent. The breakfasts are great and are served on the outdoor patio area which is a real bonus. I would say this hotel is the best in Positano in terms of quality and it doesn't carry as big a price tag as some of the others which don't even come close!

Room Tip: I would choose a room in the old part of the hotel as the features are beautiful.

I arranged a major birthday event at the Palazzo Murat with a total of 16 guests staying for 3 nights. From the moment I contacted them 9 months ago to the evening of my birthday celebration, the staff were fantastic in every way - so polite and obliging and happily accommodated my many changes to arrangements.

We had planned the celebration in their wonderful garden setting, but the weather was inclement, so they effortlessly shifted our party to a lovely inside area opening out to the garden. They also arranged 3 hours of delightful music - guitar & mandolin.

The quality and standard of food in the restaurant was excellent, the wine cellar extensive and reasonably priced, and transport arrangemnts very easy. Porters were on hand to collect our bags the instant we arrived and again at 6:00 AM when we departed to Naples airport. This is an essential service in Positano, as I observed people staying at other hotels struggling up and down the steep slopes with their bags.

All of our guests had high praise for the spacious rooms, which were so fresh and inviting, the staff, and every aspect of service. I would highly recommend this hotel for any occasion.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent and very quiet. We arranged a selection of rooms for our guests and ther...

Palazzo Murat is just about everything you could hope for in a hotel. The beautiful gardens, buildings, the quaint balconies, views, food and the main rooms are perfectly sized, roomy and beautifully furnished.

We spent our wedding night in room #1.

The upstairs bathroom however is undersized and under whelming.

If the bathroom was just average, the overall experience at PM would receive a huge tick from us, but the bathrooms are well below average, so much so that it tainted the pleasure of staying in such a beautiful establishment.

I'd still recommend it though.

We stayed three nights at the Palazzo Murat in September 2011. This is a beautiful property and perfectly located. Would recommend Palazzo Murat as the BEST place to stay in Positano. The staff was exceptional in every way. My husband had a dental problem our first day of arrival. The owner of the Murat is a dentist and personally transported us to his office and took care of our problem right away. We had an issue with the shower in our room and the staff responded immediately and moved us to a room with a bigger shower. You can not go wrong with the Murat. Wonderful experience.

A beautiful hotel off a traffic free lane down towards the church and beach in Positano. Lovely welcome with a much needed glass of lemonade, complimentary cava in the room on arrival. Beautiful rooms, beautiful garden with a few comfy sunloungers, wonderful healthy breakfast on the patio, but above all, fantastic friendly staff.

No pool, but don't let that put you off; the beach is only a few hundred yards away.

The only negative is the cost of food in the restaurant, at least during the evening, which, thanks to the £ - Euro exchange rate was bank-breaking.

Tip - when eating out in town, takeaways are half the price of a sit-down meal. Try Capricci takeaway - the best we found - where you can perch on a little balcony overlooking the seafront and people-watch as the sun sets casting a purple haze across the seascape.

We stayed three nights in a Garden View Room, which also had a nice balcony. This is a lovely hotel, well located in the centre of town, but quiet and and something of an oasis too. Note the comments in some previous reviews about getting here: if you get the bus the hotel is a walk down a hill of about 10 minutes. A case on wheels is helpful, but the hotel offers a porter service for 8 euros a bag to take your bags from and to the bus stop to the hotel if you need it. Breakfast was excellent: a nice choice of good quality cereals, tasty scrambled eggs, and plenty of fresh fruit. We found the staff helpful and friendly, and breakfast staff made an effort to remember small personal preferences which was a nice touch. The free boat trip is fantastic and a must. Swimming off the boat was amazing! We will definitely return.

We recently stayed at the Palazzo Murat Hotel with guests and celebrated a symbolic wedding in the gardens and wedding breakfast. All of the staff; reception, waiters, porters acted impeccably and made our stay and wedding a truly wonderful event. All rooms are spacious and clean and the Hotel is in an excellent location. Only 2 issues marred our stay and wedding otherwise we would have had no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. Firstly the room we had previously chosen (from an earlier visit to the Hotel) was not available and secondly the agreed 12pm check in for us and our guests was not forthcoming. The management blamed the change in management but it has previously been agreed. One of the owners (whom we had had been informed) was rude to us when we 1st alerted them to this problem. This though should not deter from either staying here or arranging a wedding here although I understand they are due to dig up the solarium at the bottom of the gardens to install a pool so weddings may not be suitable which would be a shame.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the 'old' part of the Hotel. They appear to be larger and with a lot more...
