Description: Renowned "Caffè Positano" is located in the heart of Positano's village, overlooking the sea, with stunning views of the famous Spiaggia Grande and the Amalfi Coast, offers fine and light cuisine. The fresh ingredients are always fresh and wholesome. The typical products of the coast are always fresh and genuine, and the dishes are prepared with great care to enhance the flavors, especially the fresh fish specialties.

Right up on the hill looking down over all of Positano - your time here is to savour and take it all in (and rest for a bit as everything in Positano is up hill) rest here before heading back down. Stunning views, great coffee and amazing home made Lemon Sorbet (see pic)

We only stopped off for a couple of drinks, having walked down the steps and through the lovely houses, after coming off the windy bus ride from Sorrento. The waiter was polite to begin with and gave us bread and snacks, after being seated for at least 10 minutes, with our drink, he asked what we were eating, we said we only wanted drinks. So he grabbed our cutlery and 'snacks' and went of disgruntled, quite funny really. A lovely place with seating situated oppostite the restaurant, with fantastic views of Positano beach. Steps were located next to the restaurant straight down to the beach.

Start with where to sit - not in the restaurant or on the street - only accept a table on the outdoor terrace and nit in the middle. There you can have a nice candlelit table view a view south along the Amalfi coast. Go at sunset! Many hotels will reserve and request those tables for you; and like many rest. in Positano they will send a taxi at no charge.
The service is typical tourist 'amore' style, smooth talking waiters, pushing more food than you want....but it's all in fun. Accept that and go with it. No hard sells.
Food: We found it mostly fresh; seafood and caprese salads were good, so were both my sea bass and my wife's spaghetti and white clam dish - her family is from the general area and this is her standard test of all Italian restaurants. Bread was also good, not typical for Italy I've found over 5 vacations here. Skip dessert - go find gelato in town on your walk back.

It was our first day in Positano after checking in to our hotel we went for a walk down to the main beach. After booking a boat cruise we asked the skipper, where to eat, not 'touristy'? He recommended Cafe Positano. As it was 20 meters from our hotel we decided to give it a go. We arrived and duely asked for a table for 2, to my surprise they were not that enthusiastic about seating us. I put this down to our dress, I was wearing shorts and a t shirt and my wife a skirt and top. We ordered an Antipasto De Casa to share a Risotto with Prawns and lemon, and a pasta (imagine rigatoni with no lines and large) with fish flakes and cherry tomatoes which was recommend by the waiter. The Antipasto was very good and exactly as described. When out main meals arrived we were disappointed. The Risotto resembled boiled rice with 3 Prawns mixed through and tasted like boiled rice. The lemon flavor was non existent. My pasta was a whole fish with the pasta inedible. I get al dente, this was not cooked. We were so disappointed with our meal on our first night in Positano. Our waiter came over to ask how we were enjoying our meal, normally I would not say anything but I was very dissatisfied and told him so. Both meals were only half (less than half) eaten, he offered us to order new meals but we couldn't be bothered at this point. What made our experience totally forgettable was that the table next to us was given the evening specials, bread was served just prior to the entrees, we received none of the above. The Risotto was taken off our bill but this was a small compensation for the overall experience. We would much rather eat and pay for the entire meal than experience what we did. Not a good way to treat 'Tourists' I would think as this is their lively hood and the way the world lives with social media it can have negative impact.
