We planed to go to Portovenere one day on are holiday in Italy. We didn't no how touristic it was and if there was space at the nice restaurants. We looked on tripadvisor for a restaurant and saw people said Portivene was the best place and they were right. We reserved a table for nine we didn't no if it was okay but it was no problem even thought all the other tables where small. When we arrived at the restaurant The people were very friendly and the Restaurant was on a nice spot in the center of the town.We went for a lunch and it was delicious everything tasted so good, the fish, salad, dessert everything. We loved to eat at Portivene and were so happy we reserved because it was all full.

If you go to Portovenere you should deffinetly reserve a table at restaurant Portivene it is a fantastic restaurant.

We managed to book a table outside. The table was barely big enough for two plates and glass, but the food more than made up for this! I had the grilled calamari (below there's a review from a Ukrainian lady who complained that the calamari are served as they are... I don't really understand how else you could serve them?! They are delicious, tender and juice and come with a fresh tomato salad which cuts through the density of the calamari) and my boyfriend had delicious fresh tuna which had barely touched the frying pan... All this was accompanied by a nice house white and they even obliged me with me awkward coffee request ( I like espresso with ice cold milk). Wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful price.

By far, the best meal (and house wine) we had in Italy. My wife, daughter, and I spent two weeks touring Italy for the very first time---Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, Portavenere/Cinque Terra, Venice; and, our favorite restaurant was Portivene---great food, very good prices, nice setting (we sat outside in the "alleyway"), and friendly, helpful staff.

This little place seemed very popular and looked a lot more inviting than the restaurants down at the front so we gave it a go.We couldn't get a table outside so sat inside. We both had pasta and enjoyed it. The only drawback was the toilet which was the old fashioned type (hole in the floor). Don't see any need for that in this day and age. However food was enjoyable and would recommend.

We've just been there after reading the reports here. The place is nice and cozy, however the food that we ordered was awful: grilled 'calamari' I just couldn't eat, they just grill them as they are. Then we had fried mussels and tuna steak - awfully tasting.
