Description: Rudder opens its doors around 1960 when Portovenere had not yet reached the tourist interest today. The create and lead him to the end of the 80s and Marino Toni offering their customers the traditional Ligurian dishes joined the Italian dish: pizza. Today on the path created by the parents, Antonella continues the tradition in a room totally renovated but in the typical tone of Liguria. The rudder is the perfect destination to enjoy the flavor and atmosphere of Ligurian cuisine. Ideal for an aperitif from 18.00 Onwards with wine and Ligurian cuisine or for a dinner with many different tones. Great for organizing birthdays afternoon with a buffet, or traditional with the offer of delicious pizzas created by the high professionalism of Antonella already leading exponent of the pizza industry and is currently President of the Pizza Planet - Science and Culture Pizza. Interesting for groups up to a maximum of 50 people offer to drink menu with wines and Ligurian cuisine from 7 euro, and dinner from 15 EUR. The Wardrobe will offer an opportunity to give away or give a concrete memory of your passage to the rudder.

During our first night in Porto Venere we went to this restaurant since it was close to our hotel. There were a lot of Italians on the restaurant (I.e. not so many tourists) which normally is a good sign.

We were pleasant surprised with both the food and the kindness of the staff. The restaurant is located a bit outside the centre of the village, but with a nice view over the bay.

Me and my wife had a burrata pizza (not on the menu) that was amazing. The pizza dough was really tasty and the mix of fresh tomatoes, ruccola and the burrata was really fresh. Together with a glass of red vine the dinner was complete.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

- Small portions
- Not particually good food
- Mixed up the order
- Some of us got our food, starter and main, immidiatly while some got their food 20 minutes later
- really bad service from the staff. Grumpy and unpolite
- Extremly hot

Overall bad, do not eat here. Possibly the pizza that is ok but the rest is rubbish.

The pizza was very good and it was reasonably priced. The wine was also very good. Recommend trying the local wine. It took a little while to wait for the food.

If you are in Portovenere, you should definetely visit Il Timone. The location is great, not very crowded but nice view on the sea. The pizza's are all great (we tried a few), and also the local dishes like fried anchovis and farinata (chickpea pancakes) I can recommend. Friendly staff. Not very expensive.

This restaurant is close to the center of Porto Venere. You can sit at the front, with a super view across the water to the island and watch the boats come and go, or at the back and watch the chef prepare local Ligurian specialties such as the Farinata, a sort of soft chickpea pancake,.The regional menu is interesting, standards such as a Pizza Napoletana and an apple pie desert were very good as well. The restaurant seems to work hard at presenting interesting options - there's a daily and a vegetarian menu, for example. Service was fine, prices seemed reasonable, gentle light jazz in the background, and the Piedmont wine I tried was very good. It's chilled rather than formal, but as such it's hard to fault, and we enjoyed a couple of good evenings at Il Timone during a week in Porto Venere.
