Description: Rudder opens its doors around 1960 when Portovenere had not yet reached the tourist interest today. The create and lead him to the end of the 80s and Marino Toni offering their customers the traditional Ligurian dishes joined the Italian dish: pizza. Today on the path created by the parents, Antonella continues the tradition in a room totally renovated but in the typical tone of Liguria. The rudder is the perfect destination to enjoy the flavor and atmosphere of Ligurian cuisine. Ideal for an aperitif from 18.00 Onwards with wine and Ligurian cuisine or for a dinner with many different tones. Great for organizing birthdays afternoon with a buffet, or traditional with the offer of delicious pizzas created by the high professionalism of Antonella already leading exponent of the pizza industry and is currently President of the Pizza Planet - Science and Culture Pizza. Interesting for groups up to a maximum of 50 people offer to drink menu with wines and Ligurian cuisine from 7 euro, and dinner from 15 EUR. The Wardrobe will offer an opportunity to give away or give a concrete memory of your passage to the rudder.

“A spectacular crunchy focaccia and pizza”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

Once again in the hands of the owners, Il Timone is now a charming small pizzeria and typical restaurant,
The menu' includes all the local Ligurian specialities, such as "sarde in scabece", Sgabei" "Farinata" (I love it with stracchino cheese as the warm Farinata clashes with the fresh cheese), but also Polipo (octopus) or fresh pasta al Pesto.
The attention to the ingredients, the selection of the raw materials is quite impressive.
But I got really impressed when I was served both the "Ferale focaccia" ( with sweet and sour Tropea onions and Tuna filets) and the "Pizza with cozze" (only tomato sauce, garlic, muscles and olive oil)..,, both crunchy and delicious, possibly among the best thin crunchy crust pizza ever eaten.
I'll be back soon

“New Italian cooking?”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

We got the recommendation for this restaurant from our hostage. I took the pizza menu (Attention! In the English menu you get the menu without dessert! In the Italian menu the dessert is included. For the same price!). The starter was a strange pancake, taste like a newspaper. After that I ate a pizza calzone filled with antipasti! Strange, too! The best was the dessert. I think the restaurant want to interpret the Italian food in new and other way. This is not my taste. But the restaurant was full.

“Awesome set menu”
Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

We come back here few weeks ago and tried the set menu suggested by the owner. We were served a mix of local farinata which was really tasty and followed by cold cuts and focaccia bread and to close the meal we had a mix of focaccia bread, some with tomato, anchovies and lard which were really amazing. The all meal we had some local wine suggested by the waiter.
As usual, we had a great dining experience in this cute place in Porto Venere we will definitively be back.

“dreaming of magic islands while eating”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This little restaurant in Porto Venere is overlooking the island of Palmaria, a big wild rock, a natural reserve, where you meet goats and seagulls and lots of species of fish underwater.
Anyway, the restaurant itself is not on the old harbor which is a gem but very crowded in the summer and terribly touristic. It faces the beach, is clean, cosy, the owners are very kind and helpful. The best I had there is the Farinata, a sort of flat salted pankake made with chick peas flower salt and oil which can be served with basilicum pesto, cheese, meat or mussels.
Felt good every time I was there. Their olive oil is delicious!!!

“Best meal of my life”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This restaurant has the best pesto and foccacia I have ever tasted. The menu features all the local legurian specialties, including pasta with pesto, the chickpea pancake, foccaia, house wine and pizzas. We had 3 types of foccacia to start followed by one spicy salami pizza, one vegetable pizza and one serving of pasta with pesto and green beans. If you are in Porto Venere you must go
