“Once a must in Portovenere, today just like any other”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

In the past this 'trattoria' was a must-stop along your journey. Today not much is left of the original spirit, just the location which is right on the waterfront of Portovenere bay.
Food is alright. We had an antipasti misto, which was good, and a branzino alla griglia.
What I don't get is the level of the service: not friendly, in a rush, not listening properly to our requests.
Our bill was over 40 euro, wine included, no pudding.
With this budget you can choose almost any other place in town, perhaps where the owner welcome you with a smile.

“Tourist trap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012

If you are looking for a good location when you eat and that is most important for you, this is the place. If you are searching for a nice meal and service, this might not be the best choice. We stayed one week in Portovenere in July. In hig season it is busy here and hard to find places whith both good food and service. Iseo had definenately terrible service, and the food was not more than ok, for those of us who got food at all ...We were nine people for dinner here. Two of were waiting to and a half our without getting the secondi, and we only had antipasti first. One our before midnight we gave up and asked for the bill whitout having our meal. All the others where finished with their meals and we where tired of waiting and tired of beiing ignored by a very stressed waitor. Conclusion: Tourist trap, and only that, you come her once in a lifetime.

“Good food, enourmous portions and erratic service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

Situated overlooking the charming bay of Portovenere are a number of restaurants including this one. It was hot and busy but this is a place to relax. We only ordered an octopus salad for myself and penne with prawns for my husband. First the incorrect pasta was brought. No problem. it was replaced within fifteen minutes though the mixed salad we ordered didn't arrive at all.

Fortunately what did arrive was delicious and plentiful. The octopus salad, with a slice of bread would have been more than enough for two, ditto the pasta. The open house wine was the worst we've had for a long time (though incredibly cheap) but the half bottle we then ordered was pleasant. The service though not particularly efficient was friendly.

A good and reasonably priced place to go if you are feeling tolerant, relaxed and happy to watch the world go by while you wait for your order to arrive.

“Good food, excellent service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2012

Just had dinner there in the middle of the off season. No reservation required this time of year. The atmosphere is nice and the wait staff was great. I had the mixed grilled fish. It was good, but doesn't come with any side, so be sure to order something else. My wife had the sea bass with potatoes. She really enjoyed it and the potatoes were excellent. We shared a salad which was nice. We tried two desserts, the pear with caramel and the canoli with chocolate sauce. They were both very good. We also shared a bottle of a nice chianti, and were able to get out of there for 70 euros plus cover (3 euro/per) and tip.

“Wonderful Portside Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2012

We were swept in by the owner, who made recommendations in Italian. We couldn't communicate, but it didn't matter. He continually brought us samples of the house seafood specialties until we said "Basta". They were all wonderful, although I swear I'm not sure what many of them were. He was quite the character, and it made a wonderfully memorable experience.
