I believe the bad reviews are due to blips or the service has improved as I visited last week and cannot fault the hotel, food, room, staff or anything! I booked this hotel directly and booked a double room sea view. The room was clean, all amenities, comfortable bed, lovely views, great hot rainforest shower. The batteries were not working on our TV remote and the safe battery went awry after a day or two but these were fixed immediately by a helpful receptionist, no problem at all.
The breakfast area/restaurant overlooks the marina area, how can you complain! yes it's continental but it has every kind of cold meat, cheese, cakes, pastries, beautiful fresh bread, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, yoghurts. If anything the coffee in the urn could have been hotter but we simply ordered coffee separately. We ate in the restaurant in the evening 3 times. Each time it was great service and food, my only criticism would be that dessert wasn't fabulous, it was clearly defrosted and ours was still slightly frozen.
We didn't visit the area at the best of times as the season really does stop end of September on the dot. We also had 3 days of rain but we had a car, which you definitely need to get around. In the height of season I expect there is more public transport and a small tourist train a few times a day but...I believe the bad reviews are due to blips or the service has improved as I visited last week and cannot fault the hotel, food, room, staff or anything! In the height of season I expect there is more public transport and a small tourist train a few times a day but it admittedly didn't seem regular at this time of the year. None of this is however the hotel's fault!
The car was a god send and we chased the sun all week and found some beautiful small coves and beaches, difficult to find at first however but our iphone maps helped us out! My only criticism is Sardinia is expensive so be prepared and paying for parking everywhere you go is a cheek however we managed to park in the road near the hotel and didn't pay a thing and also on the side of roads near beaches but in the height of season this could be a challenge I expect.
Overall for the price we paid and a 4star hotel we really liked it's boutique style. Lovely nibbles having a bar drink in the evening looking at the views and as the evenings at this time of the year were chilly they lit a lovely log fire. We are a couple who like places with character and that's one of the reasons we love Italy so if you prefer contemporary chain hotels then this place isn't for you. But that kind of place would be the nightmare for us!
The piazza is a short 10 minute walk, walk through the tunnels/shops to get to the port as it's much quicker than staying on the pavement down the hill and a lot more charming!
We had a great time!More
