“Good Hotel Which Could Be Better”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Hotel Le Ginestre is set in gorgeous Mediterranean gardens, and is about 30 minutes walk from Porto Cervo along a fairly busy main road. It is advisable to hire a car to explore the area as it is quite isolated. Our room at the front of the hotel did suffer from traffic noise on the balcony. However, once the windows were shut it could not be heard so did not disturb our sleep. We had a classic room, which did not have much of a view, but was clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and air conditioning system. Although the breakfast in the restaurant was very good, the evening meal which was 4 courses and expensive (40 euros) for what was provided was not so good. We decided not to eat there again after the first night, but soon discovered that most restaurants in the area around Porto Cervo are very expensive and with one exception (which cost 116 euros for 2 courses) we did not enjoy the meals which were provided. The staff and service at the hotel were OK, and they were not unfriendly, but neither were they particularly friendly. The pool area was very good with very comfortable sunbeds and the beach was small but pleasant and about a 10 minute stroll down a lane from the hotel. With a few tweaks this could be an excellent hotel.

We visited the hotel in 2009 and loved it so much. It was our first holiday together and so peaceful and relaxing which was great in everyday.
The hotel sits outside Porto Cervo so you must enjoy the walking if you want to get anywhere if not be prepared to hire a car or a taxi and they are not cheap!
The hotel has its own private beach and a secluded walked to it which is just lovely. You are well looked after even at the beach and at the hotel. The team are lovely in every way and they are always there if you need them.
The food was beautiful and there was plenty of it if you are a big eater!
The poolside is relaxing and a perfect sun trap!
A must if you are heading to the north of Sardinia
Walk to the bigger beach about ten mins away and walk through some bush trails there are magical quiet corners to cuddle up next to your partner and enjoy the coast line :)

Quality hotel, an ideal place for a relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the world - we would go back.
Service pretty good, if not exceptional. We had to move rooms due to a broken toilet which was picked up by the cleaners before we had chance to report it, good. The experience was not great thereafter however, as a rather dismissive man on reception initially rejected our request to move and suggested that we should stay in the room until the following day when the offending item would be repaired! Fortunately the excellent Stephano came to our rescue, found us by the poolside and moved us to a better room.
Restaurant staff provide a good level of personal service. Breakfast is nice - a fairly good range. Dinner excellent value for the Sardatur per-booked half-board rate - a really good 4 course offering. Only downside, we were "crammed" in one part of the restaurant
Room spotlessly cleaned by excellent and friendly cleaners - furniture and fittings of a good standard. Nice balconies, however not all have views of the sea and some can be somewhat dark. Road noise an issue in our first room
Location great in that it has it's own private beach, which is a short 5 min relatively easy walk away. Fresh towels and sunloungers are administered by the resident lifeguard and accompany beautiful waters and a great outlook. Poolside facilities and gym are good. However there is nowhere to walk after dinner and with no shops/bars close by, a car is a must.
The Bar is prohibitively expensive, as it adopts the "Porto Cervo pricing stance". Not surprisingly the barstaff were generally under employed!
Tips;
A car is pretty essential, our deal from the airport for a week was cheaper than the local 3 day rates taken by a number of other guests
Go half-board

An excellent hotel that offers excellent service from cheerfully efficient staff. It is quiet & isolated, so a car is advisable, but the hotel offers a tennis court, a Gym & an outside swimming pool, with a private beach 3-400 metres away, which seems to be being developed.

Our room was 'superiore,' with a balcony & sea view. The room seems to be about the same size as the 'Classic', which is big enough without being especially spacious. It was nice to sit out on the balcony in the sun in privacy.

The breakfast is adequate & can be supplemented by a cappuccino on request if preferred. As there are no immediate nearby restaurants we booked half board & were delighted to have done so as the evening meals were beautifully prepared & presented & a joy to eat. The maitre D' was happy to advise re wine/ food matches - we can particularly recommend the reasonably priced Pierro Mancini Vermentino which went with seafood & 'white' meats. The staff were efficient & attentive. Formal lunch is available in the restaurant & baguettes are available from the bar which though fresh were quite firm. We thought the drinks at the bar were expensive, with a glass of wine appearing to be 2 Euros cheaper in the restaurant.

Porto Cervo itself was developed as the playground of The Aga Khan & is eye-wateringly expensive, fully stocked with all the Designer shops you could possibly want, could you afford them. The surrounding beaches are extremely picturesque & edge the clearest, bluest/greenest water we have seen...so inviting.

This is a quiet well-run hotel that offers an 'away from it all' experience, with excellent dinners & very good service.

Room Tip: The superiore room appears to be about the same size as the classic, but has a very nice sea view &a...

Stayed at Hotel le Ginestre in September for our honeymoon. We were on a budget but still wanted to go somewhere a little bit luxurious so opted for Sardinia based on its beautiful beaches!! The hotel was probably one of the most reasonable in the area but was still fantastic in our eyes and was perfect for what we wanted, which was a nice week of relaxaion. We had two children at the time that were staying with family while we went for our honeymoon and this was a very rare opportunity to relax, which we certainly did! During the day the pool was very very quiet, usually with only one or two other people around the pool and a lifeguard. We spent most of our time by the pool. However, we did have car hire which I would certainly recommend as the hotel is fairly isolated. We ventured to some of the beautiful beaches and also to the harbour and into Porto Cervo, and also a few miles up the road to Baija Sardenga. Porto Cervo was definately out of our price range for eating out, with some restaraunts serving pizza etc for around 30 - 40 euros each, and the cheapest bottle of wine for about 150 euros! Was nice to see the gigantic yachts and how the other half live though! The food and drinks in the hotel were also pretty pricey but that was to be expected really while staying in this area of Sardinia. We found Baija Sardenga to be just as lovely but much more reasonable, so ate out here most of the time.

The private beach is a short walk away, and not as nice as the other beaches (a little bit sea weedy and stony) but it is still nice to have a stroll down to see it. The rooms are clean and spacious (I have OCD so have very high standards) and our superior room overlooked the pool and in the distance the sea. We stayed half board and the menu was varied every night and the continental breakfast was fresh every day. My only negative is that I was in the very early stages of pregnancy on our honeymoon and suffering morning (noon and night) sickness and did not fancy eating much of my evening meal at all. I felt as though the waiter didnt like us because I was hardly touching my four course meal and was not drinking the wine they were offering. Other than this, the staff were fantastic!

Would recommend this hotel to couples or families wanting a relaxing break with beautiful surroundings! Not for families with young children wanting a more lively holiday.

We spent 8 nights at this hotel in late September. We can highly recommend it. It is set in a great location with its own small beach which, although rather stoney, offers excellent swimming and snorkelling with the added comfort of sun loungers and towels. We were on half board terms and thoroughly enjoyed all our meals at which a variety of dishes were offered. We had a superior room with a sea view which was lovely and this and the whole hotel were kept spotlessly clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble, Whilst we could have spent the whole time relaxing at the hotel it is worth having a hire car as we were able to go out and find some lovely sandy beaches and also see the surrounding countryside.

We stayed on B&B basis for 3 nights with our 3 year old. Thought pool area was very nice and kids pool was good. Hotel was very quiet during the day but meal times were busy - it looked like a lot of tour groups
Breakfast was very poor in terms of selection and we tried the dinner one night - not great. Harsh lighting and expensive for what you got. we drove into Porto Cervo and found plenty reasonable places with more atmosphere
Our superior sea view room was compact with small balcony but was very clean and nicely updated. Staff was friendly enough

Location was very good and the private beach though rocky was lovely and very safe for kids and relaxing for adults with hotel life gaurd - plenty towels and a golf buggy to give you a lift if you didn't fancy the 5 min walk

Overall we were pleased with our visit (most important things for us were pool and beach) but thought €450 per night just wasn't good value. I suspect it probably works out quiet well as part of a package so if price was right I would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Sea view is distant Rooms tend to be small in size so not sure paying for a superior room was worth...
