book a table right on the balcony fence. ask to be put on the top floor terrace to enjoy a breathtaking view of the harbour of Ponza. scroll leisurely down the wine list, which is excellent. the menu is easy, with few choices (often a sign that the restaurant is good), some more traditional, some more innovative, all very well executed. on my first visit i tasted a dish of spaghettoni (that's king size spaghetti), served with a cold sauce of tomato and lemon, and delicious, melt in your mouth raw shrimps. quite daring for italy (i could just picture the clients protesting that the spaghetti were lukewarm) but it caused us to return after three days. it does not come cheap, but the food and the location and view are well worth the price.

the place is enchanting, the table settings very sophisticated but simple at the same time and the kind of flavours we enjoyed will be remembered for long. pasta dishes faboulous and I absolutely recommend to try the vegetables as well. the zucchini flowers stack was an experience. real fun and tasty also the local fish cooked on the hot stone. absolutely to be recommended!

We hesitated to got to this restaurant after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. The restaurant is in a lovely location, higher than the other restaurants on the main street and therefore affords beautiful views of the Ponza harbor. The decor is charming with 3 levels of dining. We were offered a table on the second level. After being seated, we noticed that the Italian clients were being seated on the third level, which I imagine offers a superior view. This left us feeling cheated and did not start the evening well. The arrival of our waiter was met with a mix of wonder, laugther and frustration: visualize a sulky rough looking Italian man dressed in a what looked like a mechanics uniform (dark blue shirt with name label, matching pants and running shoes). My husband exclaimed: ‘I don’t want to be served by a car repair man’. The white rag dangling from his pockets confirmed the look. Furthermore, the fellow did not seem to want to be bothered to slow his fast Italian lingo to make himself understood. I expected more for 30 euros an entrée! With some doubts, we decided to stay and order our meals. The disappointment continued throughout the night. The wine was served was served without reverence: we were not even offered a taste before the glasses were poured. The salad was a simple mix of greens and tomatoes and the parmesan appetizer with zucchini flowers simply ordinary. We followed with a pasta mixed with chunks swordfish and asparagus, advertised as ‘fresh’ on the menu. I immediately knew that the asparagus was not fresh when our plates arrived, they appeared soft and thin, reminiscent of the asparagus you find in French grocery stores. A taste revealed vinegar flavors and confirmed my doubts. Need I say more? I recommend you try some of the more simple less pretentious but much more flavorful restaurants on the main strip. Aqua Pazza or La Lanterna are good alternatives at both end of the budget scale.
