Grande Hotel Santa Domitilla
Ranked #4 of 12 Hotels in Ponza Island
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 12, 2014

Santa Domitilla Hotel does not offer a brethtaking view on the bay, as other hotels in Ponza, but the quality standards of both common spaces and rooms are at a very high level, as far as the srtandards of Ponza are concerned. The entrance alley together with the gardens around the buildings give a touch of nature and freshness to the all place. The swimming pools are well located , close to the spa facilities. Remember laso that the same family ows the " Gennarino " Restaurand ( with rooms ) just on the shorelineand at walking distance from santa Domitilla.

This was such a wonderful experience. A unique place. The staff was very helpful, the location was perfect and the pools were amazing! One pool for the sun worshiper and the heated pools in the caves for me!!! Breakfast in the gardens was peaceful and relaxing. I recommend this hotel highly!

Beautiful rooms, excellent service, awesome pool and beautiful gardens. Close to everything with an amazing view. Couldn't have been better spent three nights here. Only regret was that it wasn't a longer stay.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This hotel is a short walk from the port of Ponza. If you want something centrally located to the boats, ferries, rental bikes and stores this is it...less than a five minute walk. The hotel offers standard rooms...nothing special but not cramped. Our room had a balcony that offered a view of the pool and grounds. I would definitely ask for that type of room. We were at the end of the season so things were a bit scaled back but still great. They have a regular pool area and then a pool area with a grotto built into the mountain. It is divine! there are buttons on the walls to activate the water jets....multiple places to sit and relax. The grotto pools would have been superb if the water was heated ( for therapeutic reasons) but it was warm and connected to a "cool" pool. Look at the hotel pictures to get an idea of the set up. Free breakfast is offered...and there is an on site dining room that we did not go to. The hotel closes the first week of October. Beware of one thing....they offer massage service. The masseuse is a rip off artist...he worked on my feet with one hand while texting with the other for a full ten minutes.....I did complain to the management...they did not seem too surprised but also did not attempt to do anything about it. Four of us had massages and he did the same thing to each of us even after we commented about it...apparently this is his way of doing it....keep away!

We have a week in this nice hotel centrally located in town and nevertheless quiet. An extremely friendly staff, great breakfast in the pretty garden, which offers shady places to rest, but no view of the sea. The cuisine was quite good, the rooms comfortable and clean, but too small. At sunset the modish aperitif is by the pool with great drinks, food and music.

The hotel is very well located close to the main port and within short walking distance (this is not the case for the Chaia di Luna, the main competitor to the Santa Domitilla, which is quite a bit further away). The rooms are quite small and often not particularly well designed (no window in our bedroom for instance), but comfortable and adequate. I wouldn't bother getting a room with a view as the hotel is not high enough to provide a particularly good one. In comparison the Chaia di Luna offered worse rooms, though the view was truly incredible.

The reception staff are helpful though somewhat indifferent and I would highlight that if you do not speak Italian you will have difficulties at this hotel (though this is largely true for the whole island). Ugo, however, was excellent - friendly, helpful and speaking excellent English.

On balance I would go back to this hotel and preferred it to the Chaia di Luna, where I stayed the previous year. The rooms are marginally better, the location is much better, the food and service compared equally though the view is worse (but I would recommend simply walking to the Chaia di Luna to see the amazing view).

Stayed for a long weekend, restaurants great, pools perfect ,cocktails and vibe really enjoyable.
Night life and restaurants in village are cool and the seas around the islands are amazing.
We will definately return as hotel &Ponza is a magical place.
