We really enjoyed our one night stay at "Il Granaio". We had a large, quiet, pleasant room overlooking the garden. Nice breakfast buffet and very helpful staff. It's a bit too far to carry luggage from the train station in Paestum, but the staff arranged to have a local taxi meet our train. We did pay 10 euros for this service. "Il Granaio" is close to the temple ruins and nearby restaurants. An advantage of staying near the temples is that they are illuminated at night. Seeing the illuminated temples set against the glow of the evening sky is magical.

You feel like you are out in the countryside in the beautiful gardens and residence of Il Granaio - but the fascinating ruins of Paestum are only two blocks walk away. We stayed 5 nights in a second floor corner room that had a glass enclosed porch overlooking the garden. It was lovely, as were the downstairs rooms furnished in good taste and so welcoming! Breakfast was abundant and Laura's homemade cakes were delicious. Maria at the desk spoke English and was very helpful, as was a nice guy in the tourist bureau.
We tried various restaurants in Paestum but have nothing to recommend except a restaurant on route S.18 called Los Hermanos about ten minutes outside Paestum where we stopped on our way back from the Amalfi Coast.
We planned to use Paestum as our base for visiting Pompeii, Naples and Amalfi but found it rather farther then we anticipated because the road connecting Paestum to Salerno is a slow ugly traffic road. It would have made more sense to stay nearer Naples for a couple of nights and then move down to Paestum.
But that doesn't detract from Il Granaio which was lovely in every way!

Coming to Paestum for the intriguing Greek ruins, we found the stately, heavenly Il Granaio del Casabella to be a perfect retreat after being inundated by hordes of tourists near Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Beautiful and serene, furnished with lovely antiques, gated courtyard, lovely garden, large pretty room with a three season room attached and a stairway out to the garden - we couldn't ask for more. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious! I could have stayed for a lot longer if we hadn't had time constraints. Their recommendation for a restaurant brought us to a place which served great food overlooking the illuminated Greek temples. What a sight for dining!

The feeling of Il Granaio is that of a charming, refined residence filled with interesting antiques and warm, welcoming staff. The grounds are lovely and peaceful, and the history of the grainery and the grounds below are fascinating. My room was clean, spacious, however somewhat sparsely furnished and the lights were dim, prohibiting reading at night. Bathroom was modern and very adequate. Although Wi-Fi was a plus, getting news via an old, small television was impossible. Proximity to the ruins is a plus, and a nighttime walk with lights illuminating the temples is unforgettable. Our group was fortunate enough to enjoy a special dinner prepared by our hostess in a family-like dining room -- it was outstanding. Breakfast in a bright, sunny room overlooking the gardens was equally good. My overall impression was very favorable and I felt like this was a genuine non-tourist-type experience in a "real" Italian home.

Like many others, we chose this hotel based on its ratings and they did not disappoint! The hotel itself is quiet and beautiful. The staff was warm and very welcoming. My husband and I brought our dog and they were extremely accommodating, giving us a room with access to the garden. Although some of the staff speaks English, they did not laugh at my broken Italian! When we asked where to eat dinner, they recommended a restaurant within walking distance. The food was delicious and they were just as warm and accommodating.

The hotel is within walking distance to the temples and museum. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. The free parking and Wi-Fi were and added bonus (it's hard to find sometimes in Italy).

We will definitely stay at this hotel again and look forward to our next stay.

Granaio is a very charming hotel. Secure parking, good breakfast, the whole house full of antiques, unfortunately the restaurant is closed (they din't find a new cook). Very friendly reception and service. The antique beds have new mattresses, but are a little bit narrow.

Look for a restaurant where you can have dinner inside - its full of mosquitos here!!

We've just stayed for 6 nights at Il Granaio. Like other reviewers, we enjoyed our time there. Our room (107E) was spacious, with its own dressing room, as well as bathroom. Traditional rather heavy furniture. Big bed. The gardens are lovely and the lounge areas in the main house very comfortable. Good wifi in the bedroom and most (but not all) of the lounge areas.

The restaurant wasn't fully open at this time of year, but there was a simple dining option: a single plate, with a range of veggie and meat or fish items, and a dessert. Delicious!

We enjoyed being within walking distance of the zona archeologica and museum. Each is worth a good couple of hours exploration. We spent some days just reading and doing nothing much, but liked strolling round to the strip of shops/cafes near the site entrance in the afternoon for an ice cream and a drink.

The only thing to bear in mind is that this isn't a 'full service' hotel, so you can't get a hot drink after breakfast time and people aren't always around all the time.
