Hotel Filippeschi

We recently stayed here for 2 nights during a week-long stay in Italy. We'd booked the hotel online without any problems and checked in smoothly.

Our room was on the 1st floor at the end of a corridor. The room was quite large, with a 2-seater settee in the corner, wardrobe, 2 single beds pushed together to make a double; clean, tiled bathroom; there were 2 windows in the bedroom which looked out into courtyards (one had a small balcony). The room was very clean with TV, hair dryer, mini bar.... The staff were friendly but we didn't really have much to do with them as we had no problems.

Breakfast was the usual we've come to expect in Italy - the odd pastry, cereal, coffee/tea/juices, etc, it was fine but nothing exciting.

The location was excellent - Via Filippeschi is a good part of town, right by Piazza Repubblica, ever so slightly out of the main centre (well, away from the Duomo) but still easily within walking distance of the main sights - upon arrival, we walked from the funicilar but we did know the way as we'd been to Orvieto before, it took us about 20 mins. If you had lots of luggage you'd be better off getting a cab.

I would stay in this hotel again. I've read a comment from another reviewer who commented on noise. The tiled floor did echo when you walked along the corridor, and there was a wooden floor in the room, but to be honest it wasn't noisy when we were there. In any case, I always take ear plugs to Italy with me as there's usually some kind of noise going on either in or outside the hotel, but our experience was good.

On a non-related hotel matter, we discovered a really nice wine bar at the end of Via Filippeschi on the same side as the hotel - I would definitely recommend this for a glass of wine and they also did food (a wide range of cheese, from what we could tell, but we didn't eat there). I would also strongly recommend a restaurant called La Volpe e L'Uva which is on Via Ripa Corsica (go through Piazza del Popolo to reach it). The food here was amazing and all made 'a casa' - the ravioli was the among the best, if not THE best, I've ever had. Yum!

We stayed for two nights in May. This hotel has a great location in Orvieto, very easy to find and explore from. The room was nice, but tile floors made the hotel very loud and could hear everything that was going on in the hallway. The service was OK, not very welcoming.
