We spent 2 nights in Orvieto, which is a lovely place.
We took a taxi from the station to the hotel, as it would be too far to walk with luggage from the funicular. We booked the same taxi driver to pick us up and take us back to the station, the day we left.
Our room was very large, on a corner, facing the street. It had 2 large windows, a couch and desk. The bathroom also had a window, a bath and it was quite large.
The trouble was the church bells at night. We could hear them all night long. Our matress was very hard.
The shower over the bath tended to flood the bathroom, no matter which way we turned it. The bathroom door was showing signs of being wet all the time.
Breakfast was included on room rate and we found it to be quite poor. Coffee came from machines, which we operated ourselves. They sometimes dispensed awful coffee and sometimes water! The only morning we saw eggs was when a large tour group stayed overnight. By the time we got to them, they were dry and hard. There were live weevils in the muesli and the choice of food was very slim. No one attended at breakfast time.
Internet was included but we couldn’t get connection in our room, so we had to resort to the lounge area.
Orvieto is very small and the hotel was a short walk from everything.
We spent 2 full days exploring it. There is plenty to do and see and some great places to eat.

The hotel has a wonderful location. It's very close to the Duomo and all the shops in lovely Orvieto. And, it's very clean. But... The bed is the hardest bed I've ever tried to sleep on and the pillows aren't much better. Very uncomfortable. Then there's the noise, from the hallways, the street, and the bathrooms in the hotel. Very difficult to get a good night's sleep here. The TV is miniscule, the breakfast is unexciting and the coffee is really bad! I would recommend this hotel because it is clean and the location is great but, I'd recommend with a substantial warning.

Our family was happy with this hotel down a small street off the main shopping street in Orvieto. 5 minute walk from main square (Duomo). I will say it was a little difficult to drag our bags from the main square bus stop due to the uneven streets. Without bags it was quite a pleasant and easy walk. The breakfast was ok typical European breakfast buffet (bread, yogurt, a few cereals, cheese, meat). They did make me an espresso when I asked for one. Front staff was a little indifferent but not flat-out rude. Overall we would stay there again.

Orvieto is a town difficult to drive if you dont live there. Ask before you took the wrong way. The hotel is really good, the service so so but the rooms are great. Good space, big bathroom and good breakfast.

In the midst of this wonderful midieval village stands the Grand Italia Hotel, a 17th century property renovated 7 years ago into a 4 star hotel. Centrally located, the hotel is staffed by courteous professionals eager to assist travelers with recommendations for dining and sightseeing. Shopping is enjoyable as one walks throughout the winding cobblestoned alleys that connect various neighborhoods. Orvieta's citizens are very friendly and helpful in offering assistance and recommendations. Here is the very best way to enjoy the gentle Italian culture and lifestyle. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: No need for a car once you have arrived so it's best to secure parking arrangements before arriv...

The hotel overlooks the whole valley and you are up in the clouds watching the swallows. The hotel is next to a market area in Piazza del Popolo, close to the cathedral and sites. It is a quiet area and the staff are friendly at the desk. One Mac computer is expensive and difficult to use in the lobby. Breakfast is very ordinary with sullen staff. Otherwise it is a beautifully appointed hotel, comfortable and a very pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious, clean and with breathtaking views from the top floor. There is a fabulous pasticceria around the corner and many nice restaurants in the town. A quiet place with fabulous ambience.

Room Tip: The top floor is the best with valley views. Room 501 is sensational with a corner suite and balcony...

Grand Hotel Orvieto had the most selection for breakfast of any of the 12 hotels we visited in our recent month in Italy. A great variety of cereals, breads, cheese, meats, fruit, hard-bolied eggs, yogurt, and one can "make" ones' own cup of cappuccino.

Tip: Refuse room 508. It is HOT in this room in the summer (2 or 3 walls are exposed to the sun, all day, so the A/C is not sufficient) and the WI FI is very weak in this room . . . it is far from the lobby, so I had to go into the stairwell to access the WI FI.
