Owner description: Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

“Astonishing mosaics”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

Orvieto and the duomo are a great day visit, at least. After visiting for the day the quaint town, rich in history and astonishing artistic and architecture had me wishing we had booked an overnight to enjoy the culture, food, and more time to simply relax and gaze at the beauty.
The mosaics and sculptures that adorn the facade are impressive, which I enjoyed even more than the duomo in Florence.

Well worth the time and visit.
No fee to sit and admire the exterior beauty!

“One of the most beautiful buildings in Italy”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

Orvieto Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings in Italy. We kept returning to sit in front of the magnificent facade with its fabulous mosaics, bas reliefs and statues. The S Brizio chapel contains the very famous apocalyptic frescoes of Luca Signorelli: the scenes cleverly blending with the architecture of the chapel and figures almost appearing to tumble off the walls.

A very major sight.

“Beautiful Duomo”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

Orvieto is a great Tuscan experience. If you take the funicular up the hill, right outside the funicular exit is a bus stop. Every few minutes a small orange bus will take you up the hill and drop you right at the Duomo. I'd recommend reading up on the Duomo before going in, as the exterior of the Duomo, the chapels and the paintings will have more meaning as you walk around. Entrance fee is just a few euros. The chapel to the right of the altar has incredible paintings, and the chapel to the left of the altar holds the miracle that created the existence of the Duomo. The entire group enjoyed this Duomo and the town of Orvieto.

“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

The exterior of the Duomo is stunning and the frescoes are so beautiful we not only spent time in the morning, but also returned in the afternoon to sit and gaze at them.
