Owner description: Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

Really amazing structure in this little town. Very unusual stripped church, beautiful inside and outside. The front of the church has many beautiful details.

Words fail in attempting to describe the beautiful town of Orvieto. Sitting on top of a cliff is the town filled with quaint streets and the most magnificent cathedral! Stunning mosaics and carvings adorn the outside of this massive cathedral. Most cameras will not allow a picture of the complete facade - it is just so massive. The inside is a complete departure from the facade, but still beautiful. The ability of architects and stone masons to build such structures in the absence of modern machinery truly boggles the mind. This town with its famous cathedral is a must see!

One cannot imagine how such a beautiful Duomo could be found on top of a hill that is accessible only by funicular (or so I think!) The gothic architecture is fantastic and considering it was built in the ancient times one cannot stop to wonder how they could have built such a huge and beautiful 14th century Cathedral at that time. It was prohibited to take pictures inside. I was able to take pictures only of the outside and the surrounding plaza.

This is gorgeous...contrast of stark and opulent, all in the same space. Hard to imagine how they built such an exquisite structure almost 800 years ago! Costs 3 euros and takes about 20 minutes to tour (no photos allowed)....but the solemnity inside is quite moving!

This duomo is absolutely beautiful on the outside, but plainer inside. Still, it was nice to see the inside.
