“Amazing B&B, Truly a Diamond in the Rough”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon in Italy, and were truly blown away. We only stayed one night, and I truly wish we stayed for a much longer visit. The accommodations are amazing, the food is excellent, and the views overlooking Orvieto are breathtaking. Our hosts Federica and Martin were incredibly gracious, truly making us feel at home. Don't make the same mistake we did, stay for a while, enjoy the farm, enjoy Orvieto, enjoy the quiet side of Italy!!

Room Tip: If it is only two of you, the attic suite is fantastic, best views around!!

An amazing place with amazing views. The owners Martin and Frederica were really helpful. We did not have a hire car on our first day but Martin gave us a lift and back to an excellent local restaurant. The room had incredible views towards Orvieto and the whole experience including breakfast was first rate. We will return !!

Arriving at this beautiful property and walking into our attic was, without doubt, the highlight of our trip. The apartment is incredibly chic and comfortable and has a million dollar view of Orvieto. Looking out of the window of this place is, like the ad for Master Card says, priceless but nothing had prepared us for our encounter with our amazing hostess, Federica. My God, she is delightful, dedicating all her energy to make your stay unbelievable. Her tip to photograph the basilica at different times of the day to see how it changed was literally, gold. Once we visited Orvieto we loved it but could not wait to get back to Pietra Campana and continue to chat with Federica with beautiful Orvieto in the background. Then, we had breakfast which deserved a review in itself. Served in an amazing room, it offers home made cakes, pastries, jams as well as unbelievable cheeses and other surprises, many freshly baked by Federica's sister. The first morning, while showing us what was available and urging us to "Mangia, mangia, mangia tutto", Federica noticed that the bread was missing and started to say "il pane, il pane,", gesticulating in true Italian style, rushing out the door and returning within minutes with out of the oven, delicious bread. She is a joy, a beautiful Italian who made our stay unforgettable. We will return and bring a bunch of friends!

Room Tip: Ask to stay at the attic as its window allows you to take the best pictures of Orvieto. If you are a...

Still dreaming of our fantastic Italy trip in September 2012. Stayed here for 2 nights
September 19 and 20, in the one bedroom spacious apartment(largest of any lodging in Italy) which is decorated impeccably by owners. Chose this place by reviews and location, looking for somewhere above Orvieto, with view and out of crowds. PERFECT place! Relaxing, fantastic views and privacy and lovely, informative hosts. All the other reviews say it all. Watching the light on the Duomo change from morning to sunset from the property was a bonus for my photography. The photos shown don't give the real feel of size of the rooms and property of olive groves/herb gardens surrounding. We were all over Italy for 16 days and this was truly a highlight, a true Umbrian experience. For side trips, head to Civita di Bagnoregio and Lago di Bolsena/Montefiascone-Rocca dei Papi, just a short scenic 30 minutes away from Orvieto. Dinner at Le Grotte del Funaro in a cave at the top of Orvieto, highly recommended.
Wish we could have stayed for a week!

We cant thank Federica & Maartin enough for their hospitality! A beautiful guest house, incredible surroundings and a family who make you feel welcome and included at every opportunity.
Our stay was only a short one, but was easily one of our favourite stays on a long trip, and definitely a place we plan to return to.
We booked into the attic room with stunning views over Orvieto, and the families own olive groves. The room was large, well equipped and beautifully maintained. Breakfast was an incredible candle-lit spread of freshly baked cakes, homemade jams, local meat & cheeses and fresh warm bread, all served in the homes beautifully restored wine cellar.
Now back home, we have recommended Pietra Campana to friends and family, and the homemade olive oil and soaps have backed up our reviews!

Room Tip: The attic apartment has the most amazing views of Orvieto!

My wife and I happened upon this place quite accidentally while looking for another B & B but what a stroke of luck it turned out to be! We rented the top floor room as there was only the two of us and we were absolutely delighted with the experience. The room was spacious, clean, well appointed and the view of the valley was spectacular. The hospitality was incredible and we were amazed when the owner Frederica showed up at our door with breakfast in the morning. We were certainly made to feel at home with homemade preserves included in the large breakfast. We even bought Frederica's homemade soap which my wife loves. The only downside we could think of is that you need a car as this B & B is a bit out of town. Overall, a lovely place that we would recommend highly.

Room Tip: If you are in reasonable shape and can climb a few stairs, the top room has an amazing view.

To be honest I hate recommendations. Whenever my wife and me relied on them we were totaly disappointed when we arrived at the place of our choice. My wife and me are travelling a lot and we have seen so many beautiful hotels and after this weekend saw Pietra Campana. Therefore we decided to write this reccommendation. For us it was definitely one of the greatest places we have stayed during our trip to Umbria. Federica and Maarten created such a cozy and lovely place. Each room/apartment is full of little details that catches your eyes and if you like the style of shabby-schick you will not leave any of the mentioned rooms again. But you have to!!!!...because missing the incredible breakfast in the lovely arranged cellar vault from the 17th. century with the operatic music and the table full of self-made cakes, brownies, citron rolls and the organic food would be a shame. Living in Federicas and Marteens place gives you the feeling of heaven on earth. You will find yourself relaxing at the pool overlooking the great nature and the view to Orvieto and feel yourself ready to enjoy all of the beauty of the region of Umbria. Federica and Marteen were so lovely hosts. Both are so warm, gentle and laid-back and give you the latest hot spots and secret restaurants in the region. To close this recommendation...if you go to Umbria and wanna stop nearby Orvieto the only place to be is Pietra Campana. Go there.
