“Incredibly beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

We only stayed one night, for a wedding, but our socks were officially knocked off by the beauty and charm of this place. The room was an upgrade but it was huge!!!! We just couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful everything was. Orvieto is so charming. Everything was very clean for being in the middle of the country. There are little geckos running around outside, but we thought they were cute. If you are lucky enough to come here treat yourself to this charming bit of history and beauty. An experience you will never forget!

Room Tip: Get the upgrade. It's worth it!

We traveled with a large group to Florence for a day trip. The train to Florence was very nice. Had some concerns in our group with a 4 hour bus ride back to Rome, plus a stop for dinner. All grumbling stopped as we pulled in. The food, wine and service was great, it was a wonderful end to an amazing day. Take advantage of the wine package they offer to ship back home!

The hotel itself is a tour of history. The people were very helpful but with an attitude. The grounds are gorgeous and they have both a swimming pool and tennis courts. Both are kept up in an rustics European style. Swam in the pool and had a great time. Our room was very nice 3 room one level, which the nicely upgraded us to. Nicely kept but not modern in any sense. Wooden latched windows that open out into courtyards or overlooking great valleys. The breakfast was good but not overly creative or lavish. Served in an old nunnery lunch room. Only about 20 minutes out of Orvieto but a good location for taking other driving tours around Orvieto. Several local wineries are open and available for tasting and tours. We did a great trip to the city of Civita. That is a must trip if you have the time.

La Badia di Orievto is an old monastery that has been converted to an inn. The inn is a 5 minute drive from the town. The grounds and public spaces are beautiful as seen by many of the pictures posted. This truly is a magical and peaceful place to just sit and reflect on the beauty of the surroundings and look out over the gardens or to the city of Orvieto. They even have their own chapel and rectory which makes it a very historical setting. Our entire family felt as if we were staying in a historic castle.

We enjoyed many afternoons just sipping wine and eating specially prepared Panini for lunch (the restaurant is open for dinner only). We also had an excellent dinner in the restaurant.

The front desk and the entire staff are exemplary, providing both professional and courteous service. One of their recommendations was to see the small town of Civita di Bagnoregio which has a population of less than 15 people set out on top of a hill. This place is a gem to visit.

The rooms themselves are not to the same standard or level of expectation as the public spaces or surroundings. They are extremely basic and sparse but kept very clean. The décor just does not match the rest of the property. In my opinion, some upgrading is due. Wi-Fi on the property is very poor and only works in certain locations - this was no big deal for us, though our kids were perplexed in trying to upload their pictures of themselves luxuriating on the medieval property onto Facebook.

As many other reviews have indicated, the pool can use some updating. Our kids looked forward to a swim, but the condition of the pool and general state of the surroundings were not very inviting. Once again, a great opportunity to invest a little money to have the pool areas match the luxury of the rest of the public spaces.

Overall I would highly recommend La Badia di Orvieto. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed 3 nights in La Badia Hotel and nothing was ever a problem. The staff are faultless and always accommodating for every little thing we asked. We looked forward to coming again and highly recommend it to anyone who needs a wonderful break on the outskirts of the truly amazing town of Orvieto.

I'm a wedding planner and I have recently organised a family wedding at La Badia. The staff couldn't be more supportive and helpful. Nothing was too much to ask, and they accommodated all sort of requests (coming from me, the bride and groom and the guests). If you are looking for a quiet magical venue, that feels secluded, but yet it's just 10-15 minutes from the the main town, look no further. The church is stunning, the ambience is very special. For good and bad weather, you can't get it wrong, both options offered by the hotels are quite special.
The staff are all lovely people to work with, and I would be honoured to organise another wedding in this venue, and that doesn't happen often...

We found La Badia simply by luck and felt as if we had stumbled into heaven. The abbey was a bit magical, with echoes of 900 years of history and serene spaces everywhere you turned. Service was simply outstanding -- at the front desk, at the restaurant or simply in the courtyard enjoying a glass of wine. The pool was lovely, the rooms air conditioned with good Wifi. They've earned their 4 stars! And the location just outside of Orvieto was ideal.
