We had a really good meal here. We called in around lunchtime to book for the evening and chef heard us discussing the menu and saying we liked rabbit. When we arrived chef had made sure that he had saved two portions having sold out at lunchtime. Our starters of lentil salad and another grain (Barley?) were excellent and the figs with honey and chocolate were superb, the dish sounds heavy but it was really carefully cooked and was light with none of the flavours taking over. If I went to Orvietto again it would be to go to this restaurant.

Twice weekly, Thursday and Saturday with fruit/veg/flowers and clothing and much else. Try the local Pasticceria and people watch while having fantastic cakes and coffee. Night market stalls are full of jewellery and artifacts.

It is always fun when you unexpectedly find a nice place to eat. After we visited the Bomarzo gardens, we went to Orvieto for dinner. We didn't want to go to the many tourist places and after a 10min walk we ran into this place. De filetto al manzo with truffel was indeed the best we ever had, even according to our son. The owner of the restaurant was very kind, interested and charming. Next time in orvieto, we'll go back for sure!

During a lunch time break in Orvieto, my husband and I were searching for a restaurant away from the main street, when we happened upon del Popolo. It is easy to find and just about two blocks from all the tourist spots and stores. What appealed the most was the limited menu and a sign stating, "No pizza."

The restaurant is small with a staff limited to the chef and a waitress. I think there were only five or six tables for four. The decor is elegant, but simple, and not at all standoffish. The chef came to greet us and asked where we were from. When we said the USA he volunteered that he had trained in Los Angeles and also cooked for a major tennis tournament in Florida.

We had the most expensive dish on the menu (18 Euros), which was a filet mignon with a divine wine sauce and truffles--it was the best filet I've ever had. The chef suggested that we try a red Umbiran wine that held its own with the steak. Dessert was a chocolate confection that more than satisfied and ended our perfect lunch. We highly recommend this restaurant and a visit to Orvieto Cathedral.

We chanced across this restaurant in the attractive Piazza del Popolo whilst looking for somewhere less crowded than in the main restaurant area. To be honest we expected only a competent meal but it was better than that. Lovely flavours attractively displayed. And a wonderful spot to sit outside in the sun.
