Hotel Virgilio
Ranked #21 of 30 Hotels in Orvieto

Hotel Virgilio is situated in piazza Duomo with a view of Duoma from your window if you have one of the front rooms. The hotel has been newly renovated with new furniture, especially clean and modern bathroom. The staff has been very friendly. The only problem we faced was in the morning when we had to wait for about half an hour for breakfast seating as they had only few tables available. Nevertheless the location and and room facilities will definitely bring us back to this hotel if we are back in Orvieto.

We travelled with another couple around Italy for two weeks. This was our first nights stay and only for one night but we could not have asked for more. View, Service and easy check in. I would like to mention we arrived during a downpour and the staff was such a great help. We needed to change and dry off. They recommended a great eatery just around the corner and we could not have been happier. Great value and early morning start with a breakfast the was just right for the traveller in us. We could not say enough about this Hotel. Very clean and at the time we travelled very quiet on the square. We will be back.

Orvieto is not generally on the agenda of most US tourists. What a mistake. This is a lovely city and we loved this hotel. On arrival, one of our companions, my mother in law, was quite ill. We were very impressed by the sympathy the hotel stall demonstrated to her. My husband and I had always wanted to return to Orvieto and believe the experience at this hotel far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is beautifully decorated. The rooms are comfortable. The cathedral is a sight not to be missed!

We arrived at Hotel Virgilio after a long drive. Our rooms were not ready but we received a very friendly greeting and offer to leave our luggage and use the washroom before setting out for a nice lunch. When we returned our lovely rooms were ready. We were three couples and all rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was basic but tasty.

The location of the hotel is perfect. You can walk everywhere and have a beautiful view of the Duomo. We really enjoyed sitting in the terrace out front enjoying a glass of wine or coffee and watching the people go by. Unfortunately they are very strict about not allowing one to bring food out there, despite the fact that food is not sold at the hotel. It would have been nice to enjoy some cheese with our wine! You are also not allowed to bring a coffee up to the room from the breakfast area.

We stayed on a Saturday night. We had our windows open to the Square and it become very noisy with young people partying, breaking glass etc. Our friends had their windows closed and reported they did not hear any of the noise. The Sunday night was very quiet.

Overall this was a lovely hotel and we would definitely stay there again.

Got to Orvieto, and parked in the garage by the escalators since we did not want to drive through the old town. Not to long of a walk to the Hotel...just follow the signs to the Duomo, since it is right next door on the square. The hotel does have parking, but driving to the hotel may be an issue.
Very nice hotel, tastefully decorated lobby, nice size rooms, and of course a good location. There is a wine bar and several places to sit outside next to the hotel to have a drink and watch the tourists mob the Duomo....but it is a large area, and fun to people watch. The service at the hotel was very friendly, and the breakfast was not outstanding, but ok.
Overall I rate this Hotel a great value for the location, the rooms and the service.

This hotel and location is awesome. As others have mentioned, it is only steps away from the Duomo . We traveled with two other couples. They had rooms on front facing the duomo, however, we had a room on the back that was a great size and my wife and I enjoyed the garden view as well. There were so many pluses for this hotel, I will just let you read the other reviews. What I really want to mention is the young lady (Ilaria, I hope it is spelled correctly) She was great with advice, recommendations, etc. Her English was very good. I had tried for three weeks prior to the trip to rent a 6 passenger car for one of the three days that we stayed in Orvieto with no luck. I tried Hertz and Avis as well as locals in Orvieto and no one had a 6 passenger vehicle. Not only did Ilaria get us one from an agent she new, it was only 85 euro a day. This young lady is really outstanding.

We had three wonderful nights at Hotel Virgilio and the town of Orvieto. We were there Sept. 5th, 6th and 7th.

Thanks staff.

PS The little restaurant next door to the hotel was great.

Waking up to a view of the duomo was wonderful. The hotel is literally within throwing distance of the beautiful church and the surrounding piazza.

Rooms are well appointed and maintained with an elegant and leaning to modern style. Staff are helpful and pleasant.

Breakfast in the small room downstairs was standard for Italy but set us up well for the day. Some people had to wait briefly for a spare table.

There was a bit of noise that seemed to funnel through the stairway. Our room was close to the stairs and we did turn in early and the noise settled down by a reasonable hour. In the end a good sleep.
