Very small train station with 2 tracks only. I small in/outdoor cafe adjacent to a quick mart type place. There is a coffee shop across the street.

You can arrive on the fast train from Rome in about an hour, and then across from the Orvieto station is the funiculare station (the little tram that runs up the hill, to Orvieto). The station sells the funiculare tickets, as well as sandwiches, gelato, coffee, etc.

(Word of warning: If you're not paying attention, Orvieto and Orbetello look remarkably similar on the schedules at Rome Centrale Station, and you could end up in Pisa at 1:00 a.m. as I did, when I went to meet a friend in Rome and bring her to Orvieto for the weekend! Well, we'd always wanted to see the leaning tower! And we stopped at Florence on the next day as well, on our way back to Orvieto! And she's still speaking to me!)

The panini's were some of the best. Take one on the train for your travels. The entire setting was very charming. It is obviously a local hangout for many coming up and down the funciular.

As with many public places in Italy, smokers *just outside* the entrances cause the station to smell like an ashtray. (sigh)
