I cannot say enough about this place and Francesca. The place is simply home away from home. It is so cute that you cannot believe it. And above all she is amazing. She would do everything to make you feel comfortable. My wife and I are avid travelers and this place has been one of the best places we have ever stayed at.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in the smaller apartment. We ate at La Polomba and Il Moro - both delicious, but we also shopped at the market and local Spar and made some meals in the well equipped kitchen. The washing machine was a big plus after a week of travel, the bathroom is modern and immaculate, and there are screens on the windows, though we didn't see any flying insects. The whole place was beautifully presented and a maid came in every day to make sure everything was perfect and super clean. Orvieto doesn't feel like a tourist Mecca, you get caught up in the rhythms of the day; coffee and a pastry in the morning, shopping for fresh bread and produce, the afternoon rest, a visit to the Duomo or an exhibit, and the evening stroll. We still have museums to visit, photos to take, and the rest of the walk around the city walls to finish, but we can do that next time - next year we hope! What was most rewarding was becoming a part of the everyday life. Many townspeople speak little or no English and we made a point of venturing into the small backstreet shops to find the odds and ends we needed and to practice our meager Italian. Charming and helpful Francesca checked on us each day to make sure we had everything we needed, to offer to make restaurant reservations, and sometimes just to chat in her limited English and my even more limited Italian. Francesca is a member of the famous Michelangeli family who make the beautiful wood sculptures and decorative objects that are found around Orvieto and some of their work is displayed in the apartments. She is a big reason to stay at these very conveniently located apartments. This our favorite Italian accommodation to date.

Room Tip: Older travelers will prefer the smaller apartment - which is not small!

If you plan on staying in Orvieto, (which is a perfect home base for exploring other parts of Tuscany & Umbria, as well as a gem in and of itself) the BEST place to stay both for value, charm and all over comfort, check out B&B MIchelangeli. I must stress it is not a B&B, it is an apartment. I think there are only 2 "apartments", so book early, and directly with B&B, as we discovered too late it would have been cheaper than using a booking site. We had a car on our trip and stayed 4 nights here. Again, if we knew then what we know now, we would have stayed a week, just to be in Francesca's (the owner) company. Driving into town can be somewhat disconcerting as there are restricted zones, finally, we pulled in at Piazza de Republica and called. Francesca came with her car for us to follow her to the arranged parking gargage (daily fee). My non-Italian, and Francesca's limited English did not stop us from understanding each other perfectly! She is such a happy, generous lovely person. Then, she showed us our accomodations. We stayed in the ground floor apartment. There is no other word for it that "perfect". A large full kitchen/sitting room/dining area, so delightfully appointed, I thought I was in a doll house!. Having a refrigerator & stove, pots, pans etc, in a town that has a bi weekly market is a blessing and a boon. To actually cook up the beautiful produce one sees in Italy was one of the many highlights! On the counter, was ceral dispensers, packaged baked goods, etc etc, all one needs for a petite dejuner. Off the kitchen, one steps down into a small but complete bathroom, well lit, with amenities, like soap, hairdryer etc. Then, the bedroom off the other end of the kitchen/sitter. A comfortable bed with a high window and a good sized closet. I plan on returning to Orvieto JUST to stay at the Michelangeli B&B!!

Room Tip: As mentioned, we stayed at the ground floor accomodations. I saw the inside of the other rental, and...

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights -- and that was not an excessive amount of time for a leisurely stay in delightful Orvieto. Francesca is a true jewel, and she and her family are the number one reason for staying at Michelangeli, and we would certainly plan on staying there again. I agree that finding the first time can be a challenge, and I'll suggest to Francesca some directions to provide that might be more helpful. We stayed in the larger of the two apartments, really a delightful and lovely place, especially the wooden stairs, and my only "advice" is to make sure that one is aware that whoever uses this apartment will climb those stairs often and that they are "spiral" and in one case, somewhat narrow and that the price paid for their beautiful finish is that they can be somewhat slippery underfoot. With the main sleeping area in a loft at one end of the apartment and the bathroom at a non-contiguous loft at the other end, this apartment is not a good choice if one has bad knees or arthritis in knees or hips or is more than a little over-weight; we are blessed with not having had such issues. There is another apartment that might be more suitable for anyone with these problems. It would be an excellent choice for someone with one child or anyone planning of preparing one or more meals on his or her own, since there is a complete and well furnished kitchen area. The breakfast is in the individual apartments; they stock the apartment with coffee, packaged juice and packaged croissants, bread, marmalade and jam and a toaster.

Room Tip: As noted, if one has some physical limitations so that climbing a reasonably narrow "spiral&quo...

What a delightful and cozy place. We did have trouble finding it. Called and finally Francesca came and got us. We had walked right past the frint door and didn't see it. Francesca was wonderful and her weak English was challenged but our Italian was worse. The apartment we stayed in was lovely decorated and had a full kitchen. It is the only place we have ever stayed that had a dining table. Only one thing wasn't great - the bedroom was in a loft and the bathroom was also in a different loft. For us old folks, going down a spiral stairs and up another to go to the toilet in the middle of the night.was a little unnerving.
