This hotel is in an incredible location, opposite the Duomo in the heart of Orvieto, with a gelateria only 50 meters away! Our room was spacious and very modern, with stylish decor. The bathroom was nice size and well equipped. Everything was spotlessly clean. Our room had doors that opened out to a tiny balcony overlooking a tiny courtyard garden-- rather romantic. There was a computer at the front desk available free to guests.

We spent two nights at Hotel Duomo in mid-October. The hotel worked out perfectly for us (my husband and I) and for the other couple we were traveling with. The rooms were large, comfortable, spotlessly clean and quiet. The hotel is family-run and we found the service to be excellent. The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. You are literally only a few feet and a short flight of steps from the main attraction in Orvieto - - the incredibly beautiful Duomo. Since the hotel has a garage, arriving with a car was not a problem and, of course, there is no need for a car once you're there. We enjoyed the Hotel Duomo, highly recommend it, and would definitely stay there again if we return to Orvieto.

Our group of 4 adults stayed in a family room for one night in September. The hotel is in an excellent position, close to everything, just up the steps and you're in the piazza. We had a quad room which was very spacious and the hotel had the luxury of a lift, making luggage hauling a breeze. The hotel staff were very friendly, they expertly parked our car and were very helpful with recommendations and directions. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy. We wished our stay was longer and we would definately return.

It was difficult to decide where to stay the first two days in Italy after our trip from Miami. We chose Orvieto and it was a terrific choice! What a great place to unwind! Previous reviews concerned us about the drive into Orvieto, but if you don't rush and follow the signs, you will have no problem locating the Hotel which is on a side street close to the Duomo. We paid for parking and it was well worth the 10 Euros to have our car in a secure place. The room we chose was very nice...large, very clean, with a view of the Duomo, nice toiletries including slippers (which we really appreciated in a cold hotel later in our trip). We had to tell the owner who pointed us to his daughter Elisa who speaks English very well that I have asthma so the room spray could not be used (it was pretty strong) and that we needed more pillows. They were always very accomodating and professional. Breakfast was very nice with great selections of meat, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, and delicious dolce (cake). Also the coffee was wonderful...love that cappucino! We loved seeing the Duomo from our room and it was wonderful being so close to seeing this beautiful building...especially at night with the moon shining. I can see that if you are a light sleeper the bells might bother your sleep, but I was so exhausted that I never woke up because of the chiming, however, my husband woke up and he could not get back to sleep since the bells are off and he kept counting the number of times the bells chimed...LOL...The owner gave us a wonderful recommendation for a restaurant the first night and then we chose another one close by for the second night. We really enjoyed walking in the streets of Orvieto, seeing the sights, window shopping....Actually, in the 3 weeks we were mostly in Umbria, we found the shopping to be terrific in Orvieto...no huge climbs up and down, very convenient for returning packages to the hotel. No huge crowds or hordes of tourists....We would definitely return to Orvieto and stay at this hotel!

Coming by train from Spoleto to Orvieto, we simply walk across the road for the lovely funicular. After a very short ride, hop on Bus A to Piazza del Duomo (buy combined tickets at Funicular). Facing the Duomo, the Hotel Duomo is on your immediate left, accessible via two roads, one with stone stairs, the other with a downward slope, we took the latter. It was wonderfully easy to find this hotel, great for first time visitors like us!

Having read some reviews about the intermittent air-conditioning here, Ms Elisa had reassured me that they do have air-conditioning all night long. True enough, we enjoyed strong air-conditioning all night long on the last night of September, 2010. Coming from the Tropics with above 32 degree C everyday of the year, air-conditioning was of utmost importance to us.

Our chosen junior suite, room 302, was one of only 3 on the 3rd floor. No worries about walking up, the Hotel has a modern lift which can easily fit 4-6 people, perfectto! The suite was L-shaped in design and quite spacious, comes with two seater sofa, dinning table and chairs, a large and comfy bed. The price quality ratio at this Hotel was rather high we thought.

There were different kinds of toiletries available and slippers. We could even see the whole side facade of the bella Duomo, and some houses' roofs and courtyards. Being newly renovated, lighting was also very good in the room, sufficient for reading. Being situated in a quiet area of town, the isolation of room 302 makes it even more quiet for a good nights sleep.

Breakfasts starts at 7.30am, was surprisingly good, too. We really enjoyed the yummy cakes and tasty pastries here, quality stuff, even better than 4 or even 5 star hotels on this 6 hotel trip! Common areas are not big, but furnished with a computer and nice leather chesterfield sofas. There was also a small little garden which we did not use.

All in all, we enjoyed our short one night stay at this Hotel. We thought Orvieto was a gem and has quite a lot to offer to its visitors. It was also very easy to navigate and tourist friendly - funicular combined with Bus A! Glad we took the underground caves tour, which lasted some 50 minutes, never miss it when in Orvieto for the first time.

Small glitches of staying at the Hotel Duomo are minor - pillows are too flat, so place a bath towel below it to elevate it for more support (it always works!), no safe in rooms so have to lug passports and cash all around in Orvieto, the friendly Gentleman who heads the Reception does not speak much English, so if you need much tour info, you might have to seek out Ms Elisa's help, no free Wi-fi and the modern art lying around the Hotel, urgh ...not my cup of tea.

After walking around Orvieto, by passing some hotels which we had once considered before choosing Hotel Duomo, I am confident to say that we had indeed strike gold with this Hotel. Good choice & superb value in Orvieto! Grazie mille, Hotel Duomo.

We stayed for two nights in Orvieto at the Hotel Duomo. The location is good for walking through Orvieto and viewing the Duomo. The staff was very nice and provided us with recommendations for dining. The Duomo itself is worth the trip. The hotel is very typical Italian hotel. The room was not very large but was very clean and we did have a view of the Duomo from our room. The only real downside to the hotel was the town bell which rings every quarter hour all night. I am not sure that you could get away from it in any of the hotels, but if you are a light sleeper, you should be aware of it. The breakfast was typical.

The Hotel Duomo is a very nice hotel, with spacious, clean rooms. The location is perfect, right around the corner from the stunning Duomo. The Piazza in front of the Duomo is wonderful at night. The rear courtyard at the hotel is a charming oasis in which to relax after a fun day in wonderful Orvieto.
