Description: In the historic center and medieval heart of Orvieto, 10 meters from the elevator to the Campo della Fiera parking lot, there is a cave in the cliff that was carved out by hand. This atmospheric place witnessed the craft of rope making over many centuries. Today this cave is a distinctive and one of a kind restaurant where one can taste traditional flavours made new in unique and harmonious combinations, such as: Truffles, porcini mushrooms, wild game. Or, if you prefer, you can enjoy a variety of seafood, skillfully prepared, or take in the smokey aromas of our pizza baking in wood, brick ovens. We serve the highest quality products and excellent wines from our well, stocked "cantina". The rooms are made up of the original stone walls and vaulted ceilings of the cave and which fancifully meander onto different floors. It's winding, welcoming, rich in charm and history. In addition, we have a summer veranda which offers eating outside where you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape that surrounds the cliff.

“Great food, magic surroundings”

Chose this restaurant after reading Trip Advisor. Was very impressed with the location and the food. Fresh tastes and well presented at a reasonable price. Wine was excellent too. Only small downside was one of the wait staff was a bit surly, but was helpful just the same. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Orvieto. The cave surroundings themselves were worth the visit.

“Great food, unique location”

As we walked down the stairs the fresh ravioli for the evening was being prepared and the wood fired oven burning warmly. To our delight we were literally in a cave and had a great table near a window (we arrived at 7pm and by 8:30 the restaurant was full). The service was helpful and friendly even with our limited Italian. The food, pasta for me, pork for my husband and the vegetables were the best we have had in 3 weeks. Top quality and great atmosphere. 2 courses with lots of vegetables plus excellent wine for 60 euros. I think that is value. We ate in 2 other restaurants in Orvieto and this was the best. Well done.

We found this restaurant as we wondered around the city at night. A couple from Australia was leaving and recommended it to us, as well as what they had for dinner. It is down some stairs and in a cave, but warm, charming and a real treat. Meals were were good.

“Unforgettable Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

This restaurant is a must stop if you're visiting Orviento. We discovered it while taking a stroll around the ramparts on the east side of the city. We made reservations, as is always recommended when dining out in the evening in Italy. The restaurant is literally carved out of a cave,. It was quite busy that evening and the service was a little slow by typical Italian standards. The food was excellent and we will certainly go back to this restaurant next time we visit Orvieto.
