“Good for casual dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

This is a very traditional Italian restaurant that sits in the town of Orvieto, not very difficult to locate as we saw signpost on our way at night.

We ordered the antipasto tipico della casa which is a mixed hor d'oeuvre of the house. The scaloppina al limone (veal cooked with lemon sauce) was not my favourite. For the
"umbrichelli" al tartufo (homemade tagliolini served with truffle), the plate was served by a waiter with truffle freshly shredded in front of you. It tasted good. For dessert, I ordered the blueberry moist cake and it was yummy too.

“Wonderful food, lovely place, great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Trattoria La Palomba serves some of the best food in all of Umbria. The stracciatella soup was delicate, a great way to begin. The four of us each had a different pasta dish. All were delicious, especially the Amatriciana pasta. Make sure to make a reservation or you will not get in. This place is a favorite among locals. We were told to eat here by three separate individuals. They were right! A highlight of our trip.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012 via mobile

There was a queue outside this place when we arrived, and they were slammed by about 30 people arriving at once. Not surprisingly, there was a fair bit of yelling and chaos in the kitchen, but despite all that, the service ended up being quite good and very good- natured, especially from the owner, who was quite amusing and made a very good suggestion for a local red wine.

We ordered bruschetta with tomatoes and another with truffles, as it was truffle season. Both were very nice, and the truffle bruschetta had two whole truffles grated over it!

We followed with the umbrichelli with truffles (again with a heap of truffles grated onto it) and the umbrichelli amatriciana. Both were very nice, although with the level of business in the restaurant, there was a mix-up with our order (quickly rectified).

We finished with ice-cream with peaches and chocolate sauce and with a cake with cream and fruits of the forest. Both hit the spot perfectly.

Excellent despite the fact they were hammered with customers all at once, and ended up being relatively cheap too.

“Excellent Food , value priced, great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

We stopped in Orvieto for the day in route from Rome to our villa outside Siena. Researched a lot of different restaurants for our stop and chose Trattoria La Palomba and were not disappointed. We made reservations which is highly recommended on weekends. The pasta dishes were fantastic, particularly those with truffles and with the cinghale (wild boar) sauce. If you dine here make sure you get something with trffles. The vittello al limone was also very well done. While the food was very good, the service was excellent and we felt very much at home even with our limited Italian. We did note that we were the only English speaking patrons during our lunch which is always a good sign.
