“Fantastic hotel for Dolomiti skiing!”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at La Perla again. The hotel is nicely located (just 1km outside the Ortisei city center) and parking is covered. You don't need your car during the week though, the hotel shuttle brings you everywhere you want from 8:30 till 19:00 hrs. Helmut is the perfect driver and was super friendly! The entire staff is very friendly, Mr and Mrs Kelder run a really well managed hotel. Breakfast is unbelievable, buffet style and everything you can think of. Dinner was fine, 5 courses every night, but it wasn't as stylish as we remembered. The portions were a little too big, the meat a little too salt and the pasta a little too soft. We didn't use the afternoon snack option as we would still be at the slopes, but one day we saw the huge cakes, beautiful sweets and soup being offered to other guests. The Spa is another reason to go to La Perla, it is beautiful, very large for this size a hotel and a wonderful relaxing experience after a day at the slopes!

Skiing is the best. Quiet slopes, challenging skiing at Seceda, with access to the Sella Ronda and Seiser Alm is just a picture perfect location. We enjoy skiing in Italy as prices in restaurants at the slopes are still very affordable. A liter white wine would cost you around 11 euros. A pasta lunch around 9 euros. So much better than France or Austria!

The only thing we observed, which was very different than 10 years ago, is the number of people from Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, etc. We went skiing in January, so we didn't have many families, only adults.

Our family of 4 (2 adult children) stayed here for a special Christmas week package. The hotel is a beautiful facility, small enough to feel quaint but large enough to have fantastic facilities including an infinity swimming pool and full spa with sauna and steam rooms, etc. Our rooms were clean and very comfortable, and the dining room, bar area, ski locker rooms and other common space were all wonderful. There were great views from every room, as the location was on a hillside about a kilometer outside of the city center. Best of all was the staff, which catered to every need. This hotel is run by the Kelder family, who were always working to make sure everything went well.

For us this was a ski week, and we had immediate door to door service to either of the Ortisei lifts (Seceda which is the more difficult area and the way to the famous "Sella Ronda," and Siusi de Alpes which is a larger but much more intermediate part of the ski area with only blues and reds). The shuttle van would be available to drop us or pick us up within minutes, at any time.

Breakfasts included traditional continental fare, but also a full breakfast cooked to order if you wanted it. Afternoons after skiing a small buffet was available to tide you over to dinner. Dinners were 4 full courses, very well prepared even if not memorable. Overall value was very high.

Visited the hotel for skiing and thoroughly enjoyed it with my family and friends. It was a well run establishment and friendly staff, and after a long days skiing there was nothing better than to soak in the spa's or lie across the pool with a wonderful view of the valley. A recommended place for all!

We stayed from 8-15 of January and although we paid as a half board, I consider it full board.

Everyday after skiing, there was served soup (different kind everyday), incredible, in the hotel made traditional sweets (apple pie, croissants and many more), prosciutto with melon, fruits(all day available), different types of cheeses and many more.
The sweets were not the usual commercial ones, as I said but real home-made.

At the disposal of the customers there was 3 mini buses that transfer you to and from the pistes, to and from the village of Ortisei until seven pm, so you don't need a car, although we rent one from Verona airport to Ortisei.

The breakfast was with many & incredible quality choices.
But the big revelation was the gourmet 5 plates menu each night included in the price. I include a photo of one of the days menu. Apart from that there was a large buffet style choice.

The gym was equipped with dumbbells from 1-10 kg and one treadmill, two bicycles, one elliptical(life-fitness everything).
The pool was big 10 or 15m.
Also, a very big sauna, hamam, Turkish bath, jacuzzi, spa area with facial and body treatments with very good massage.
The distance from the village is 2 minutes and from the pistes also(alp d' siusi)
Ortisei belongs to a huge ski area called ''dolomiti super ski'' around 1200km of pistes.
The vista, the choices (try the sella ronda tour) and the small restaurants are just magnificent. Try bistecca Fiorentina at Salon(on the piste resto).
The small village of ortisei was very beautiful especially at night, (lights on, ice statue cars)

Definetely recomended for food lovers, ski lovers, families, group of friends.

We stayed 10 nights that included Christmas and New Years eve at la Perla.
My kids and husband ski a lot, and they were disapointed with the time it would take them to go from the hotel to the high slopes, but this review is about the hotel!
We could easily compare to similar hotels in Switzerland and Austria. The room (family room) was 45 m2 with a door that separate the children and us. Nice when you travel with 2 teenagers.
All rooms have a balcony. No tub, just a shower, but the bathroom is spacious.
The robes are a bit worn out, that would be something to change in a 4 stars hotel. If you want a clean one, you pay 5 Euros extra...
The food is wonderful, breakfast is ample, fresh orange juice, lots of choice, there is a "snack" between 3.30 and 5.30 with soup, bread, cheese and home made cakes. Dinner is always original but simple, no fuss, with a wonderful and fast service!! The spa is also spacious, simple but efficient. A large pool and separate quarters for the users of the spa.
Prices are reasonable, especially the massage and beauty treatments.
Escalator is a bit slow, and you need the shuttle to reach the slopes.

Activities are offered by the hotel,
The personnel was really nice and attentive! They speak english, italian and german!

We had hoped to stay at this hotel for a few nights on a walking trip in the Dolomites, but left after the first night as we felt that the price/quality was so out of balance.

The hotel is located outside the village, up on a hill, with a good view (though the views from Ortisei aren't as good as the ones from the villages further in the valley), but also in a good location to get noise from the cars on the main road. The hotel is done in an 'alpine' style - lots of blond wood and overstuffed furniture in the shared areas. Our bedroom was large, with a walk-in closet and substantial bathroom. However the decoration was mediocre, the walls were scuffed, the towels were thin, and the carpets a bit grubby.

Admittedly we were there during one of the busiest weeks of the year, but we paid over 350 Euros for half-board for a room that was worth at most 120, and a dinner that I wouldn't pay more than 100 for at best. I would add that despite the inflated room price, they charged for wifi (which didn't even work properly in the rooms)!
